It was made of off-white fibre, and ran from near the top of Bobbi’s thigh down to her toes, holding her leg at an exact right angle. The foot portion was angled like a ballet dancer, so that the cast formed a straight line from Bobbi’s knee to her toes. Of the toes themselves, her four smallest ones were on show but the cast continued over her shattered big toe, completely enveloping it in the fibre.
The difference in this new cast was in the knee. Built into the cast and almost completely hidden by the fibre was a metal bracket, specially designed by Lucy, the prosthetics maker. Only a tiny part of this could actually be seen, which looked like a small steel ring directly under Bobbi’s knee.
