Ben was arrested in the middle of the night, right out of his hostel room. At first he thought he was being robbed. His attackers were dressed in all black and were no uniforms in sight. Then the black bag was pulled over his head and he remembered a dozen questionably sourced online articles and dismissed rumors about what happened to political dissidents in this country.

But Ben wasn't a dissident, he was a tourist!

Had he trashed the government on the Internet? Committed some kind of horrible faux pas when he crosses the border that morning? Did they think he was someone else?

All his kidnappers said was “a crime has been committed,” when they bundled him, handcuffed and hooded, into a van and drove off at distressing speed. Ben was tossed around at all the abrupt turns and swerved.

Next Ben tried to ask what crime he was supposed to have committed. They ignored him. Ben wasn’t even sure if they could hear him. Maybe the back was soundproofed? He couldn’t hear anyone breathing, but that was he couldn’t hear anything over the sound of his own hard breathing in the hood.

It took everything Ben had not to just start panicking, and he might only have been succeeding because he was too deep in shock for panic. He was only doing some backpacking for a few months! Did they… did they think he was a smuggler? An illegal immigrant? Seriously, what crime did these assholes think he was guilty of?!

Deep breaths. In, hold for five seconds, out. In, hold, out. Ben didn’t manage to calm down, but he could eventually think straight. Whatever was happening here, he would get out of it. He was a dual U.S. citizen, and while he knew U.S. citizens weren’t the most popular tourists he hadn’t done anything wrong! There were times when foreign tourists got detained or falsely accused. Ben’s name was in the process of being added to that list, but he knew he would be home eventually. They wouldn’t want to prosecute a tourist who hadn’t done anything. He would be fine. Everything would be fine.

Ben kept breathing as deeply as he could as the van came to a stop and he was pulled out. God, he was still in his night shirt and boxers, wasn’t he? Yeah. He could feel the slightly different feel of the graphic on the old tee shirt. Ben had to doubt the faded Naruto merch he wore was striking fear in the hearts of his presumably state-sponsored kidnappers.

The place they frogmarched him into wasn’t what Ben was expecting. Instead of feeling cold floors under his fear and hearing the echoes of busy secret police off concrete walls, he felt… carpet. Cozy, comfortable carpet at that. And all he heard was the rustling noises of himself and his kidnappers.

The three of them eventually came to a brief stop, one of them left Ben’s side to… open a door… and the other dragged him into a room with even more comfortable carpeting.

“Sit,” came the sudden command. Ben found himself seated on a wooden chair, with a plush cushion he began to sink into.

“What’s going on?” It was the first time Ben spoke in awhile.

“Quiet.”

Ben didn’t argue. He simply sat still as he felt additional cuffs locked around his ankles. They were cold, and he jumped at their sudden touch.

The door opened again. Ben could barely hear it over the sound of his panting breath. He struggled to calm himself through breathing again, but it wasn’t working very well.

“This is him? Were there any problems?” The voice was husky, but recognizably female. This new arrival was a woman. It was the first time in a while Ben heard more than one syllable at a time, and it was suddenly much easier to detect the Eastern European accent shared by everyone in the room other than himself.

There was something else about the voice. It somehow sounded… familiar.

One of the men responded with a long statement in his native language, which Ben did not know well enough to understand at all. He was pretty decent at French and kind of okay at Spanish, but that was it.

“You may wait outside.”

What? They were leaving? Ben waited until the door closed again to speak up.

“What the hell is going on?!” He demanded, voice rising. It was a lot easier to be more forceful when his kidnappers weren’t right there anymore. “I didn’t do anything wrong! I didn’t commit any crime, or, or, or come here illegally, or anything! My passport is… well, it’s probably back in my hostel room, but it’s there! Everything was done right! I’m not a criminal!”

Ben could feel the presence of the woman drawing closer. Could hear the faint movement of fabric and footsteps. At some point she was behind him, and her hands fell gently yet firmly upon his shoulders when he tried to stand up.

“Shhh,” she whispered, over and over, until Ben’s protests and demands faded into panting breaths. God, it was hot in that damn hood.

“You were told there was a crime, correct? That is what they said when they took you?”

“Yes! That’s what I’m saying, I didn’t commit any crime! I need to talk to—“

The black bag was abruptly ripped off Ben’s head, making him cry out at the sudden flood of warm light into his eyes. He began blinking and squinting, trying to adjust his eyes. The woman’s hands remained on his shoulders, her thumbs suddenly rubbing into his skin in what was almost a massage.

When Ben’s vision cleared, he saw for the first time that he was in a bedroom of all things. A magnificent four poster beast of a bed was immediately to his left, maybe four feet away. There were two more doorways besides the one that let people in and out, presumably for a bathroom and a closet.

And there was a mirror, positioned opposite from the chair Ben was seated in. The kidnapped young man stared when he saw the image it reflected. Himself, still cuffed, still seated, and still dressed in his boxers and Naruto tee shirt; and above him, dressed in a fine looking burgundy nightgown was a woman Ben recognized.

It was no wonder her voice sounded familiar. Ben had only been in this country a day, but the face that smiled at him in the mirror was plastered everywhere in the city. And even before coming here, it appeared from time to time on news reports and articles back home. She was a little shorter than Ben was, and somewhat overweight. Her curves were a low-profile meme on the internet.

Ben was used to seeing her in an immaculate tailored suit, not a nightgown. And her strawberry blonde, slightly graying hair was always neat and professional instead of hanging loosely around her shoulders. But still, it couldn’t be anyone else.

Juliana Rebane. The nation’s president (or dictator, as some called her) was standing behind Ben, who had been forcibly dragged into her… her bedroom, in the middle of the night.

“You recognize me. Good. Many tourists don’t, and that irritates me. I understand that my country is not prominent, but if you’re going to come here you should at least know who is in charge!” She laughed, as if this was a casual conversation between friends.

Then she leaned in, close to Ben’s ear. “But I am happy when I am recognized by young men such as you, Ben Zimmer. I love to see that look in your eyes.”

“I don’t… what is…” Ben couldn’t even form a complete sentence.

“It is as my men said, a crime has been committed.”

“But I didn’t—“

“No, not your crime, young man. You have not done anything wrong. It is my crime. I ordered my men to kidnap an innocent tourist for me.”

Her hands left Ben’s shoulders to find his chest, where they lingered. All Ben could do was stare in wide-eyed horror at the smiling face next to his in the mirror.

“How do you think they will punish me if it is discovered I am doing this? Kidnapping tourists must be against international law, yes? What do you think would happen? Would my country be sanctioned if they do not depose and imprison me? Or would they not care, so long as I don’t kidnap anyone important?”

Ben could feel her breasts on the back of his neck now. Along with a sudden, sharp pair of pinches at his nipples. It was that abrupt discomfort, or maybe the sound of his own voice wordlessly crying out, that snapped Ben back to his senses.

“I’ll scream,” he promised.

“Good. I like it when my bitches scream.” She paused, long enough to nibble at his ear. Another cry escaped Ben as he tried to jerk away. No luck, he was too firmly in her grip.

“Or do you think someone will come to help?” The dictator chuckled. “No. The only people who will hear are the men who brought you here. They are loyal to me, and the only reason they will come in here is if I tell them to, or if you are troublesome.”

She let go of his chest and stood up, all physical contact ending. Juliana Rebane stepped around the chair, and then she was in front of Ben, towering over him with her hands on her hips.

“You’re not going to be troublesome, are you bitch? I think you’re too smart to give me trouble. In fact…” her eyes left his face to travel downwards. “I think you’re too excited to give me trouble.”

Ben felt furious heat in his cheeks. He hadn’t noticed his own erection.

Nor did he notice the hand sailing towards his cheek until it already slapped him.

“Ow!”

“I asked you a question, bitch! Are you going to make trouble?”

“No!” Ben yelled, surprising himself. “No! Just… Please let me go home!”

He looked at her, trying to ignore the way she smirked while he put as much begging into his eyes as he could.

“Please! I won’t tell anyone about this! I won’t go to the embassy or… or a lawyer or the press or anyone else! Please! I just want to go home!”

The nation’s leader crouched down until her bead was even lower than Ben’s. One hand came to rest on his knee.

“Oh, poor little innocent tourist. Don’t you understand? You already are home.”

Ben’s heart sank.

“That’s right. From now on your home is my bed.”

His mouth opened—he didn’t know what he was going to say, he just needed to say something—but another slap hit the same cheek before he could speak a single word.

“No, no more talking. Stand up and get on the bed! Kidnapping is not the only international crime I am going to commit tonight, and if you take too long you will be punished more than the U.N. will ever punish me!

“…That’s it. Good bitch.”
