Miriam shuddered on the satin sheets, her hands gripping at and slipping off their slick surfaces. She whimpered softly, then pushed the source of her delights away with her legs. “No, pet, that’s... oh, so much more than enough. I can’t take any more. Come cuddle.”
Pet wormed her way up Miriam’s torso, pulling herself along with her muscular arms. When she nuzzled in for a kiss, Miriam jerked back in surprise. There were no lips to kiss, just a thick octopus tentacle where the mouth should be. And no nose either, just a pair of oddly bulbous eyes with horizontal irises. The way the iris-slits curved up made it look like those unnerving eyes were smiling at her.
Miriam’s eyes travelled down the body next to her, noting the blowhole in the neck so her pet could keep breathing while pleasing its mistress. Those oversize, muscular arms had also done wonderful things. The rest of the torso had pleasingly familiar curves, though she didn’t recall pet’s nipples being so large. Casting her mind back to earlier, when she’d teased them into engorgement, Miriam smiled. Apparently she’d changed them in the process. They looked delicious, and she leaned down to give one a lick.
The form beside her twitched and jerked in pleasure, so Miriam teased the nipples larger yet. But when she glanced further down her bed-companion’s body her jaw opened and let the strawberry-sized nipple fall away. There was nothing below her pet’s hips. She’d forgotten about legs entirely, and in doing so...
Legs reappeared first, then the rest of the body next to her quickly shifted back to a familiar feminine form. “Oh Finn! I’m so sorry.”
Finn patted her body down, then touched her face to reassure herself about which parts were where. She gave Miriam a quick thumbs up when she was done, though her smile was a little wobbly from unfamiliarity and fatigue.
“You’re not mad at me for turning you into a... a...” Miriam licked her lips. “Whatever that was.”
Finn shook her head, rolling to her back to gaze up at Miriam adoringly.
“Would... would you let me do that again sometime? Because it was glorious.”
Finn’s eager nodding made Miriam’s smile light up.
“Oh! Thank you.” Miriam lay back down to snuggle against Finn happily. “I love you so much.”
Finn found her voice at last. “I love you too, mistress.”
Miriam’s good mood vanished as if that last word had instead been a bucket of ice-water thrown over her body. “Oh no. No no no. Out! We have to get out!”
Miriam sat up in her car’s seat, staring at Finn splayed beside her. “Don’t say anything. I am so sorry it happened like this.”
Finn looked up at her quizzically, but didn’t try to interrupt.
Miriam flopped back onto her seat, then grimly raised it back to upright position. She clicked on a remote in the dash, and the garage door behind her car started to open. While it was rising she started the car, and in less than a minute she’d left her house and parked in front of Finn’s. At her gesture, Finn got out of the car, and Miriam did the same. She darted around to his side, and pulled the ring off, placing it in his hand and closing his hand around it. “Tell your parents I’m sorry, too.”
“For what, exactly?” asked Finn.
“I forced you to say you loved me. But you were...”
Finn chuckled softly. “Your pet, yes. Did you think I didn’t mean it?”
“How can you have meant it? You weren’t you?”
“I...” Finn started.
Miriam put a finger on his lips. “No. You’re still muddled.”
Finn shook his head, Miriam’s finger following his lips as he did so.
“No,” repeated Miriam. “I’ve mucked this up enough already. Go away, think on it for a couple of days, then we can see.”
“Until after the exams, then?” asked Finn.
Miriam nodded firmly. “Until then.” She turned around to go back to her car.
“Not staying for dinner?” asked Finn.
Miriam bowed her head. “Your parents have been lovely. But right now, I need some time to mourn what could have been.”
“Mourn?” asked Finn. “Aren’t you being a little overdramatic? Come home. Eat with us.”
Miriam shook her head without looking back. “Not tonight. I couldn’t look you or your parents in the eye, and that’s no way to eat.”
Finn sighed. “Fine. Will I see you after our exams tomorrow? We’ll both need help for what we’re facing on Thursday.”
Miriam stopped still, with her car door halfway open. “Right. Math. I promise to pop you back out of the ring as soon as possible after my Math exam, so you can put me in for English. Okay?”
“I’ll take it. Are you going to be okay, home alone?”
Miriam shrugged, still refusing to meet Finn’s eyes. “It’s one of Mrs. Lund’s nights. She loves to chat, I won’t be alone.”
“Okay. Is it okay to say I’ll miss you?”
Miriam managed a wan smile. “So will I. See you Thursday morning.”
*** *** ***
Finn aced his Calculus exam, as he’d expected. He waited around afterward, and waved cheerily to Miriam as she headed to her Literature final. She smiled back, and gave him a shy little wave, but didn’t speak.
Thursday morning, Finn tapped on Miriam’s door an hour before the exam started. It opened immediately, and Miriam grinned to see the ring on Finn’s outstretched palm. She reached for it, but stopped short. “Is it okay if I girl you? I promised not to change you much, but...”
Finn lifted his hand up higher so the ring brushed Miriam’s fingertips. “Go ahead. Truth be told, I’ve been looking forward to that part.”
Miriam grabbed the ring and had it on in a flash. A moment later, Finn was inside the ring, grinning up into its crystal blue sky and the pretty brown eye peering down at him through the clouds. He waved, and called out, “Let’s go!”
“One thing first,” echoed Miriam’s voice from around him. Her Math textbook appeared in his hands. “Okay, maybe two.”
Finn waited a moment, then felt his clothes drape differently. He looked down and grinned at what she saw. Breasts. “Thanks. Want me to set up in the library or the boutique?”
Miriam whined petulantly. “Don’t tease. Library please, I need to not be distracted.”
“As you wish.”
The exam went poorly. Miriam hadn’t undersold her troubles with math in the slightest, and they hadn’t done a practice run. Finn eventually relented on trying to teach it to her during the exam, and had to scramble to give her the worked steps so that she could make it look like she’d done the work herself. They didn’t quite finish in time, and as they left the room Finn started to apologize.
Miriam projected herself into the ring to give Finn a quick hug. “It’s okay! Really. I’m sure I passed, and to be honest, passing is about the best I could hope for anyway.” She vanished again to focus on walking somewhere private. Once she was sure nobody was in the washroom, she popped Finn out of the ring and slipped it off her finger. “Here. Your turn.”
Finn took the ring, and a moment later Miriam vanished. He strolled casually out of the washroom, not even noticing the sign on the door, or the odd looks he got from a couple of girls passing in the corridor.
Finn found a quiet spot to sit in the corner of the library, and closed his eyes. She appeared in the ring beside Miriam and gave her a hug. “Hey. You’re sure you’re okay with the exam results?”
“Yeah. Let’s get you ready for English. Did you bring your text?”
Finn shook her head. “Nah, it was mostly readings. Mom’s got a dozen copies of the complete works of Shakespeare in the library, and I bet all the rest is here too.”
“How much have you actually read?” asked Miriam worriedly.
“Uh... about half? I’m hoping that my score on the grammar side will make up for tanking the poetry and classics.”
Miriam sighed. “I still cannot believe you have a library like this, and don’t use it.”
“Hey, Mom didn’t let me play with the ring until recently. How was I supposed to know?”
Miriam rolled her eyes, and turned to the shelves. “OK. Shakespeare, wherefore art thou... Wait a minute.” She turned back to Finn. “Why are you a girl?”
Finn blinked in confusion then looked down at herself. “Oh! I... I guess I was a girl for you so long that I kept that as my mental image when I projected myself in here. I didn’t know you could do that! Want me to pop out for long enough to settle back into boy mode?”
Miriam shook her head. “This is nice.”
“You like me more as a girl than a boy?”
Miriam bit her lip. “A little, yeah. I mean, I still like you as a boy, but...” She moaned. “This is terrible.”
“What? Come on, it’s not that bad.”
“Yes it is! The idea of you as a girl is turning me on... Just talking to you like this, I’m getting all ... wait. Are you doing this to me?”
Now it was Finn’s turn to look uncertain. “I... maybe?” She ran her hands over her body, cupped her chest and squeezed softly. “I like feeling like this, and I like it when you do this to me, so... it could be leaking?”
“You like being turned into a girl?” asked Miriam. “Why?”
Finn shrugged. “I don’t know. The first time you changed me it was a shock, but you made it fun. The clothes, the sensuality of female bodies... it’s nice.”
“Have I ... permanently altered you?” asked Miriam, eyes wide. “Finn, you have to get out. I think you’re still stuck in girl brain mode, and it’s not fading because you’re in here.”
Finn shrugged. “I’ve felt like this for a while now. The last couple of days, anyway.”
“Out! Go play with yourself or something so you feel like a boy again.”
Finn rolled her eyes, then vanished. “Fine,” he thought into the ring. “Want to come out for lunch? I put a couple bag lunches in the store this morning.”
Miriam sighed. “I probably should. I like it better in here, and I don’t know if that’s me, or you, or the ring.”
Finn ambled off to a little-used stairwell that saw even less use during exams than on normal school days. The two of them often sat on the landing to eat lunch during school, so Miriam found it familiar when she appeared there. “Hey. How are you doing?”
Finn shrugged, and summoned two paper bags. He handed one to Miriam. “Good, really. I mean, confused, but... otherwise I feel fine.” After a bite of his sandwich he added, “as long as I don’t think about the exam, anyway.”
Miriam laughed loudly, echoing off the walls and concrete stairs. “Yeah. I can’t quite believe I’m done. Finished. Just gotta get you through the next few hours, then we’re free as birds.”
“I’d like to try that again. I bet with practice or a mental boost I could get the hang of flying.”
Miriam chewed in silence for a while. “Hey, this isn’t half bad. Did your Mom make these?”
“No, these are my handiwork. I’m not much of a cook, but sandwiches are easy.”
Miriam snuggled up against Finn and kissed him on the cheek. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
Once they’d finished their sandwiches, cut vegetables, and an apple each, Finn popped their garbage into the ring. Miriam was still warm against his side. “We should get going soon.”
“I know. Can I try something first?” asked Miriam softly, not quite looking at Finn.
“Sure.”
Miriam put her hand behind Finn’s head and pulled him down into a full-on kiss. Finn’s eyes widened in surprise, and he took a few moments to gather his senses. After that, he threw himself into the kiss with a will, tongues dancing as he pulled Miriam into a tight embrace.
When they broke for air, both panted softly. Then Miriam sighed, and cursed under her breath.
“What? I didn’t think I was that bad.”
“I just...” Miriam looked down at her feet. “I liked our kisses inside the ring better.”
Finn fiddled with his phone for a moment, setting an alarm. “That can be arranged.”
A moment later, Miriam was standing in the field outside of town. Finn appeared beside her.
Miriam smiled, and pulled her into an embrace that ended with both of them panting and disheveled, lying in the soft grass. “Wow. Just.... wow. When did you learn to kiss like... Wait, how are you female?”
Finn looked down at herself. “It’s what you wanted.”
“But your self-image should be male after so long out of the ring.”
Finn tilted her hand back and forth. “I could feel both sides, still. Give me a bit.” She vanished. A few heartbeats later Finn reappeared, male. “Better?”
“You have to teach me how to do that,” breathed Miriam. “Later. C’mere.”
This kiss went at least as well as the last one, and when Miriam opened her eyes she was lying on the satin-sheeted bed she’d added to the boutique, and wearing only a delicate lacy slip that she didn’t recall owning. She giggled. “Going all out, are we?”
Finn grinned down at her. “Testing something.”
Miriam rolled her eyes and sat up. “Way to kill the mood. Testing what?”
“Was it kissing me as a girl that was better, or just in the ring generally?”
Miriam tasted her lips, thinking about it. “Bit of both. And I’m not sure I can trust my mind any more.”
“Oh right. I didn’t try to make you feel anything specific, but...” Finn shrugged helplessly.
“Yeah. Hey, make me want something weird. I want to know if I can feel the difference.”
Finn considered that for a moment, then grinned. Before he could say anything, Miriam bounced on the bed. “Nevermind that, make me smaller! I wanna be tiny again.”
Finn’s grin didn’t waver as he cut her height in half. Then at her insistence, in half again. Every time she shrunk, Miriam became even more excited, more keen to dwindle. Before long, she was barely the size of Finn’s fingernail, and rolling about in the palm of his hand in glee.
“I’m not even bite size,” she giggled. “C’mon, eat me!”
Finn frowned, and suddenly Miriam was full sized and sitting on the bed. She massaged her temples. “Oogh. That was... The idea of shrinking was this massive turn-on. And it’s... gone, like flipping a switch. Felt natural, too. I didn’t catch it.”
“What about the eating part?” asked Finn. “I didn’t do that deliberately.”
Miriam giggled. “Yeah, you might have started something with the ice cream. I dreamed about it that night. Over and over.” She wrapped her arms around herself, one thumb rubbing over her breast. “I think I’ve found a new kink.”
Finn shook his head. “What a pair we are. We both thought we were normal, but now that we can... Do you think the ring just helped us find things we never knew about ourselves?”
Miriam bit her lip. “Maybe? You could try making me crave something nasty, and see what happens.”
Finn looked away and sighed. “Sounds intriguing. But the exam starts soon, we need to get going.” He vanished.
“Feh. Fine. Leave your girlfriend all alone in a magic ring...” Miriam found herself suddenly standing in the library.
Finn’s voice resounded around her. “Surrounded by thousands of her favourite books. Such a tragedy.”
Miriam snickered. “Goober. How’d you get to know me so well?” She started walking among the shelves, and pulled out a volume of Shakespeare’s plays.
Finn just laughed, and carried on to the cafeteria where the English exam was still being set up. He found a spot to sit, and set out his pens.
The exam went about as well as Miriam’s Mathematics one that morning. Finn struggled with half the questions, and Miriam was hard-pressed to find the answers for the others in a timely fashion. They gave up on several, and moved on to the essays. Finn whined when he saw that there were three to be done, and less than an hour to go. Miriam did her best to cheer him on, but was taken aback by the number of questions. “I don’t remember having to do three. Sucks to be you. Get started.”
With Miriam to serve as a research assistant and occasional sounding board, Finn powered through the first essay as best he could. When it was done, the clock showed less than twenty minutes to go, and Finn panicked. He wrote the next essay in an unchecked frenzy, forgetting Miriam’s existence entirely, and hadn’t done more than start the first sentence of the third when time was called.
As he was leaving the exam room, he heard other students complain about the three essays. Then one of the girls in his class giggled. “Didn’t you read the instructions? You were supposed to pick one of the three, and do that.”
Finn started laughing with relief. He projected himself into the ring to share his good news with Miriam, and looked around in confusion. No Miriam in the library. He withdrew from the ring, and moved off to the stairwell for privacy before trying again. “Miriam?”
He could sense her presence in the ring, but unlike in the past, he wasn’t able to turn that into knowledge of her whereabouts. “Miriam, I can’t find you. Can you come out?”
Still no answer. Finn tried tugging on his vague sense-of-Miriam, and suddenly she popped into existence in front of him. Miriam’s dazed expression soon faded, and she looked down to see worry on Finn’s face. “What happened? What about the other essay questions?”
Finn chuckled. “My mistake. I missed the bit that said to pick one of the three. I got a little frantic when I saw how little time I had for the last two.”
“And you forgot about me, and as a result... poof.” Miriam sat on the stairs beside Finn. “Hey, don’t look down. I’m fine now.”
“But forgetting about you shouldn’t be enough to disappear you. Should it?”
Miriam shrugged. “I don’t know, Finn. I said something, and then... nothing. Maybe I distracted you and you willed the distraction away?”
“Isn’t that terrifying? That I can make you... not exist?”
“Temporarily not exist,” corrected Miriam. “It’s not like I noticed, other than the disorientation when I appeared. I’m fine. Better than fine. We’re finally free! C’mon, ring me into something weird,” she exclaimed, bouncing to her feet and posing in front of Finn. “Oh! Remember I said you should make me want something I’d hate? Do that!”
“Are you sure?” Finn asked, concernedly. “I mean, you could end up liking it afterward.”
“I’m sure I’ll be able to manage. Hit me.”
Miriam vanished, and found herself in the ring. Finn appeared beside her a moment later. “Okay. So what do you hate? Bugs, right?”
Miriam shuddered. “Can’t stand them.”
“That seems a bit too basic, though. Oh, I know. Did you ever see the movie Alien?”
Miriam’s eyes went wide with fear. “Half. When that thing showed up, I ran away and hid.”
“So you wouldn’t want to be one.”
Miriam’s eyes went even wider, and a moment later she vanished. Finn looked around for a moment, puzzled. “Oh, right.”
Casting his attention out of the ring, Finn saw Miriam pacing in front of him. “Even the suggestion... I panicked. Apparently the ring interprets ‘aaaa, run away’ as ‘out please’.”
Finn chuckled. “So obviously a different approach is called for.”
Miriam eyed him skeptically. “You’re planning something. Let’s see it.” She vanished again, appearing naked in the ring. She felt cool air over her body, glanced down, and sighed. “Was that really necessary?”
“It'll help,” echoed Finn's disembodied voice.
“Help what? Turning me into a toy? Ooh, it'd be neat to be all slick and sparkly. Can you make me sparkle?”
Sparkly patches appeared on the backs of Miriam’s hands as she watched and started to spread. She rubbed her hands over her body, speeding up the rate of the spread and giggling as she turned not only sparkly, but a uniform bright pink. “I look like a doll!”
Finn appeared then, and grinned. “You do look pretty cute like that. Not sure pink is your colour, though.”
“Oooh! Purple. Yeah, a glossy purple would be even better.” Miriam’s hands turned purple, and once again she helped the change spread over her body, barely noting that features like belly-buttons and nipples were smoothed away in the process.
Miriam pulled Finn into a hug, kissing him ferociously as she slid her slick arms up and down his back. “This feels so good, I want to keep going! Darker, shinier... Ooh, black latex!”
Her hands roamed over her body and inky blackness welled in their wake, blooming across her skin. Darkness closed around her head, smoothing her hair into an arched carapace and rounding off her face.
Miriam examined her changed body eagerly. “So sleek, so black. I love it. But something's missing. Sleek, black... and dangerous. Yeah! Can you give me claws and spines?”
Finn grinned, as if party to some great secret. “If it is claws you want, claws you shall have.”
Miriam growled her pleasure as long blades emerged from her fingertips. She wiggled and flexed them, coaxing them out longer until her fingers vanished, becoming nothing but elongated scything blades. At the same time, her feet grew out into great talons.
Miriam treaced her finger-claws along the hardened carapace of her arms, their arc describing slashing blades that grew under her touch, points projecting back to cover exoskeletal elbows.
“Look at me,” she crowed. “I'm a predator.”
“Wrong movie,” commented Finn with a wry grin. “Maybe you should hunt Predators instead.”
“Yeah!” agreed Miriam with a cheer. “I'll need a long, dangerous tail.” She growled happily as she felt it grow, and slashed it back and forth. “Wicked. Can you make it so I can see in the dark?”
Finn nodded, then cautioned, “It'll cost you your pretty face...”
Miriam grinned ferally. “Good.” Her toothy smile remained, widening into a threatening maw as the rest of he face smoothed away into blankness. Her hair-carapace merged and lengthened into the long, curving head of a Xenomorph.
Miriam tilted this new head back and forth curiously. “How odd,” growled her guttural voice. “It's not sight, but I can tell where you are.”
“Oh, good, it worked. But there's still something missing...”
“More teeth! I need another mouth's worth to...” Miriam's voice dropped to a hiss as a second mouth grew within. She clacked her new teeth as her outer mouth hardened into a permanent smile.
When she found the muscle that shot her inner mouth forward, it nearly took Finn's ear off. He flinched away from her, and took a step back.
That brought her hunting instincts to the fore, and her claws lashed out, just missing Finn as he spun away and ran. He only made it two paces before the monster's tail swept his legs out from under him. The monster fell upon him, rending flesh and bone with claw, talon and teeth.
It took his projected body's death to remind Finn that he could just leave. He hesitated, as death had ended the pain. It hadn't even hurt all that much, and now all he could feel was painless tugging and shaking as Miriam eagerly worried at his body. Even feeling part of his arm get swallowed was more odd than disturbing. He could tell she was having a great time. Sure, she was dismembering his fake body... but it felt like disappearing now would be like taking a toy from a puppy.
Once Miriam was sated, Finn formed a new body. “Did you have fun?”
Miriam pounced her new victim. This time Finn was ready for it, and popped away. “Miriam?”
The monster raced toward him faster than he could imagine, so Finn backed out of the ring entirely. Further attempts to call to his girlfriend were met with aggrieved bellows.
He tried to change her back, and found a fight on his hands, but the beast couldn't fight being ejected from the ring.
Miriam appeared before him, glaring angrily. Fortunately, her attempt to claw him was easily blocked.
“Snap out of it!” cried Finn.
Miriam's glare got even more ferocious. Instead of attacking again she stumbled away from Finn and huddled in a corner. When she started to hyperventilate, Finn belatedly remembered to summon out her clothes. Miriam dressed dispiritedly, and stayed in the corner when done.
“Too far?” asked Finn when the silence dragged on uncomfortably.
Miriam hissed at him. Then in a rough voice she asked, “Why did you let me do that?”
Finn shrugged. “I was out of it after the first hit. My brain wasn't in there to get scrambled, but it felt like it was. Once I'd recovered, it seemed like you were having fun.”
“I was!” cried Miriam, bursting into tears.
Finn approached her warily, then sat beside her and put an arm around her. She clutched him tightly.
“Can you explain to me why having fun was bad?”
Miriam pulled away from him, back still against the wall. “Don't you get it?” At Finn's look of confusion she continued. “I desecrated your body. Gleefully tore it to shreds like a puppy with a plush toy. Except that toy was you, and the memories won't go away!”
“Ah. They should fade like all the other mental changes, right?” asked Finn hopefully.
Miriam's glare intensified. “I no longer want to use your guts as a garland, but if you keep being obtuse that might change.”
“And...” prompted Finn.
“How well do you remember me in your mouth, coated with ice cream? Teasing and swallowing?”
Finn moaned softly, and teased a memory with his tongue. “As clear as day. Oh!”
“Yeah. These memories aren't going away.”
“We could get you blackout drunk...” suggested Finn weakly.
Miriam hissed at him so ferociously that Finn reflexively scrambled back from her.
“Okay, that's a no on the booze. We could... make better memories?”
Miriam snickered. “You'd like that, wouldn't you?” She stared down at the ring Finn was holding out to her. “I might turn you into a sex-monster like last time.”
“Cool.”
Miriam reached out for Finn’s hand, closing it around the ring as she closed her own eyes. “I want it too much. But the beast still wants you, too. It... I don’t trust what I’d do.”
Finn slipped the ring on. “I could promise not to turn you into anything predatory.”
“Can you keep that promise? You seem to like it, first the lion, now the Alien thingy.”
“Hey, you liked being eaten, too.”
“Not like that! I don’t want to be hacked to bits, it was the confinement and the slippery... Rrrh, no.” Miriam shook her head violently. “You don’t get out of it that easy.”
Finn bit his lip. Miriam vanished, and he appeared towering above her in the ring. “Finn! I said...” She stared at his enormous form dazedly, then started toward his outstretched hand. “Gnnnh, I want you to... No! Stop!”
Miriam vanished from the ring, appearing in the stairwell once more. “That is no way to get out of an argument,” she said, panting softly. “Stop making me think about how good it felt...”
Finn tried a smile. “It was fun. Are you sure you don’t want to try the ‘better memories’ route?”
“I don’t need more ring-phantasms messing with my head. I’m messed up enough already.”
“That wasn’t exactly a no.” Finn stood up, and offered Miriam his hand to help her stand.
After a skeptical look, Miriam’s bristly posture deflated. She accepted his help to her feet, and his support as they walked out to her car. Once they were on the road, Miriam drove away from their houses. She pulled up in front of one of the various low-budget hotels in the area.
“What?” asked Finn.
“We’re going to get a room. And find out just how distracting you can be without that ring.”
“What?”
“And if you’re a very good boy, I might let you use the ring on me again, to show me how good a girl you can be.”
“Oh!” Finn’s grin melted Miriam’s heart.
