Button 11 - ‘Unconventional Desires’
Yana was nervous when she finally returned to work on Tuesday. Heather smiled at her, and greeted her with a big hug. KK was nowhere to be seen, and that more than anything helped Yana settle down.
At lunch, Heather asked Yana if she’d thought more about the dresses. Yana sighed, and shook her head. “I’d really rather forget the whole incident.”
The larger woman snickered. “Yeah, that’s not going to happen. We’ll be releasing the video next week. KK’s pretty much been living in the video editing room trying to turn it into some kind of coherent sequence. You’ll be working on the publicity materials soon.”
“Great. Is she going to harass me about the dresses?”
Heather shook her head. “I persuaded her to let me try instead. If you can do something, there’ll be big bonuses in it for the both of us. So... think about it, OK?”
Yana nodded, then went back to her lunch. The rest of the day was busy, helping with the busywork involved in getting a new release ready. Once she was finally on the bus home, she had time to ponder Heather’s request. Would it really be so bad?
Yana trudged up the walk to the front door, hung up her jacket, and headed into the living room. Darryl was there, perched on the couch, reading. This wasn’t unusual, but the red pen he was using to attack the manuscript was.
“Aww, Darryl. Did you have to bring work home?”
Darryl looked up. “Oh, hey sweetie. I didn’t hear you come in. I got a bit behind due to last week, and I’ve got some promises to make good on.”
“But you said you could have the time off...” Yana whined.
“I know, and this isn’t really a consequence of that. It’s just the big convention is soon.” He held up the manuscript and gestured with it. “I know this author, he’s a friend. I’ll see him there, so I want to have this edited and ready to hand back to him.”
“Oh.” Yana sighed and trudged toward the kitchen. “I’ll get dinner ready.”
They ate in silence, with the manuscript sitting beside Darryl’s plate. Worse, Yana had seen the stack on the table beside the couch, it was far from the only one Darryl had to edit.
Darryl did set his work aside to help Yana clean up after dinner, but then went right back to the couch. Yana went up to the bedroom and did something she thought she’d never do. She opened the button’s lucite box, and picked up the magic button. She stared down at the innocent looking thing in her palm, and growled at it, “I can beat you. So don’t try anything funny.”
Then she laughed at herself, and bounced down the stairs humming a happy tune to herself. It was only as she got to the living room that she realized the tune was ‘The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You.’
Yana prowled up to Darryl, and just as she was about to touch him with the button he yelped and held up the manuscript defensively. It vanished, cascading over him as folds of slick, red fabric.
Darryl carefully scooped up the dress that was lying on top of him. It felt familiar, it was a shape he’d worn before. “Come on, Yana. You know I really want to get this done.”
“And I want to play with the button. Please?”
Darryl studied the dress for a few more moments. “I thought you said these inspired lust in all who saw them.”
Yana nodded. “That’s what I was going for. But it just doesn’t have the same feel.”
“Do you think it’s because a person needs to be inside?”
Yana shrugged, and the button fell into her hand. She handed the manuscript back to Darryl. “That should be easy enough to test. Hold still this time.”
Darryl dodged Yana’s swing, and this time it was the couch cushion that paid the price. Yana retrieved the button and grumbled at him, but he protested that he really had a lot to do, and not a lot of time left.
Yana sighed, and stomped off, muttering darkly. Her muttering cut off abruptly, as did her stomping. Darryl looked up at the sudden silence, and couldn’t see Yana. He could, however, see a pile of clothes in the hallway. He rolled his eyes, set down the manuscript, and approached the heap. Moving Yana’s blouse aside, he was not surprised to find a shimmering puddle of red fabric piled in her slacks.
What did surprise Darryl was the sudden erection he got at just seeing the dress Yana had become. Before he knew what he was doing, his pants were off, freeing him from their painful confines. He scooped up the dress, and any good intentions he might have had with the gesture went away, as did conscious thought, the moment it brushed against his member.
When Darryl regained some control of himself, the dress was balled up in his hands and both it and he were sticky. He flopped back on the floor, exhausted, and tossed the dress aside lest the cycle start over again.
After a few moments, Darryl sighed. Yana would be furious, she hated being clothing. He closed his eyes and reached for where the dress had fallen, hoping he could find the button by touch. Instead, his questing hand found a soft, warm breast. He opened his eyes, to see Yana smiling back at him.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly. His hand stayed where it was.
Yana chuckled warmly in reply, making no move to dislodge his hand. “For what? Tossing me aside?”
“No, for what happened before that. I couldn’t help myself.”
“Did you enjoy it?” asked Yana, teasingly.
Darryl had to think about that for a moment. “Very much, yes. I’ve never been so overcome with lust before in my life. I’d say the experiment was a success.”
Yana laughed, and tumbled into Darryl’s arms. He belatedly noticed she was flushed, and sheened with sweat. “Oh yes. A resounding one. Thank you.”
“For?”
Yana leaned over Darryl, lips inches from his. “For everything that came before you threw me aside.” She kissed him ferociously. If Darryl hadn’t been utterly spent from the earlier experience, they’d have made love right on the spot.
Eventually, though, they broke apart again. Yana pouted. “Too tired?” She held up the button. “I can fix that...”
Darryl didn’t even try to protest. “Just... one question, first.”
“The condemned may have his last request,” Yana said with a grin, the button hovering inches from Darryl’s groin.
“Why did you take so long to change back?”
“It takes focus to get control of the button. It’s awfully hard to do that when your entire body is being fucked. Something you’re about to experience.” The button descended, and the only sound that Darryl could make was a resonant hum. Yana kept him like that until morning, all the while wishing that she was the one who was stuck.
In the morning, Yana showered with Darryl, and restored him part-way through so he could scrub her back.
The next few days were quiet ones. Yana kept her head down at work, and KK was too busy to bother her. Heather kept making unsubtle hints about the dresses, and Yana discovered that the lust-inducing capability wasn’t what KK was after. It didn’t show up on video, after all. But the poured-on look, that she wanted more of. As much as she could get.
So in the evenings, Yana experimented with the button. She didn’t want to leave the button with KK, so she wanted to find out how long a dress could last with the button removed. But every time she tried to tie off the threads of magic and remove the button, the converted pillow or T-shirt would reappear within a few minutes.
Yana let Darryl make good progress on his editing homework, as long as he spotted her while she was doing the button experiments. And if he promised to use the button on her when they went to bed.
Being Darryl’s bed was always fun, as she was able to keep from submerging entirely. She got good at tying off the magic so it left her favourite bits silkily exposed. And until her sweetie ran out of steam, she would be quite stuck, unable to focus her mind enough to touch the magic. Once Darryl fell asleep, though, Yana found she could easily free herself. Too easily.
To make it worse, Friday night Darryl was snoring up a storm when Yana emerged from her silken confines. She resisted using the button on him for a few minutes, then a new idea made her grin. A touch of the button rendered Darryl into a silent Darryl-shaped pillow. Yana tied off the threads of magic securing Darryl’s form with practiced ease, and pulled the button free.
When the morning light finally roused Yana from her slumber, Darryl was still a pillow. Curious as to how long it would last, Yana left him like that all day, and all the next night as well. Sunday morning she inspected her handiwork, and found that the knot hadn’t decayed at all. So she picked at it, and suddenly Darryl tumbled into her arms.
“Hey sweetie. About time you let me out. What was I this time?”
Yana giggled. “A pillow. You were very snuggly... I could sleep with you like that every night, it’s very restful.”
Darryl yawned and stretched. “It was for me, too. So what day is it, anyway?”
Darryl wasn’t too disappointed at the loss of a day, but soon busied himself with preparations for the convention next weekend. While it was a bit early to pack, he wanted to make sure everything was ready.
Yana watched him bemusedly. “You’re really excited about this, aren’t you?”
Darryl turned away from his drawer full of T-shirts with silly sayings on them. “Yeah. I’ve been going to this ‘con forever, it seems. It’s like Christmas and my birthday all wrapped up in one. Plus, I got my job there.”
“And you met me there,” added Yana. “Huh. A pity we can’t get married there, too.”
“That has been done,” Darryl mused. “But I think a week is too short notice to set it up now.”
“Wait, we still haven’t set a date... but if I’d asked you that a month ago, you’d have said yes?”
Darryl grinned at her hugely. “Yes.”
“Damn. I don’t think I can wait another whole year...”
Darryl sat beside Yana on the bed, and put his arm around her. “Then we should do something sooner.”
“How soon?”
“I... have no idea. How long does it take to organize a wedding? It’s not like either of us have a lot of friends or family to invite, though I think my Mom would be ticked if she and my sister couldn’t make it. Getting sis out here might prove challenging on short notice.”
“Oh? You’ve never talked about your family.”
Darryl shrugged. “After Dad died, Mom put us in boarding school. She wanted to do the best she could for us, which to her meant finding the best paying job she could. She’s an accountant for some oil company, last I heard she’d moved to the headquarters in Texas. My sister Irene’s trying to make a name for herself in show business. I haven’t seen either of them in years, we don’t have much in common any more.”
“Is she any good?”
“Beats me. I’ve never heard of her getting any interesting roles. All I’ve heard about is cheesecake, and I’m really hoping that’s to do with her waitressing job, not modelling.”
Yana snickered. “Hope all you like. Want me to see if KK knows of her?”
Darryl shuddered. “I’d rather not.”
“Speaking of KK... do you have any idea why you stayed a pillow after I took the button away, but the dresses I make don’t?”
Darryl looked for the button’s box, and was surprised to find it on Yana’s bedside table. He walked around to it, and picked up the button. Looking down at it, he mused, “I’m not sure. But if you try it again, just for a little while, maybe I can see something.”
“See something?”
“See, feel... something like that. The way you talk about sensing magic... I’ve noticed something once in a while, too. If we studied the two cases, maybe we’ll find the difference?”
Yana nodded sharply. “Sounds good. Should we turn the pillow into a dress fir... Well, we could do it that way, too,” she said with a sigh, looking at the simple black dress lying on the bed where Darryl had been. She reached out and tied off the magic of the button, then tugged it free. Then she set it a side, made herself comfortable on the bed, and closed her eyes.
Yana felt for the knot she’d tied. It was still there, glowing dimly to her senses. Nothing much seemed to be happening, but she watched it for a while none the less, so Darryl would have time to focus on it too. After about five minutes she tapped the dress lightly to warn it, then cut the knot. Darryl reformed under her hand, and rolled toward her to give her a kiss.
They got more than a little distracted, but eventually started to compare notes. Neither had seen anything they thought was unusual, but they hadn’t studied tied-off magic before either.
“So,” Darryl concluded, “We need more information. Shall we try it on a dress next, or you?”
Yana looked briefly alarmed at the suggestion, then got a grip on herself. “Dress first. Because I’m going to have to let it run its course on me, and we don’t know how long that will take.”
As usual, the dress-based dress only lasted a few minutes. Both could see that the knot Yana had tied in the threads of magic fade and eventually fail. It was Darryl who noted that there was no flow into the knot, as there had been on his.
Yana frowned. “I don’t think we’re seeing the same things. I couldn’t sense that at all.”
“Interesting. I wonder what that means.” Darryl pondered it for a bit, then gestured to the dress. “Care for another test on the dress before we get to you?”
Yana jumped at the opportunity. The dress lasted over ten minutes before changing back, and she looked up at Darryl with puzzlement in her face when it did. “So what changed? I’ve been doing everything I can think of this last week, and never gotten over five minutes.”
“I managed to create something a bit like the stream of power I’d felt,” Darryl said tiredly. “It’s awfully hard to focus on doing that with you beside me to distract me.”
Yana grinned, and nuzzled against his cheek. “I’m not going to apologize for that.”
“You’re just trying to get out of being a dress.”
“Maybe,” Yana admitted, looking away.
“You don’t have to be a dress,” Darryl noted gently. “I mean, it would introduce a new variable, but... you could be a doll instead. One that can see and hear.”
“I... that would be better. I might need you to blindfold me from time to time so I can focus on the magic.” Then she acquired a saucy grin. “I also might need you to use me properly if I’m going to be stuck for a while...”
Darryl laughed. “I think I can arrange that. And if I get tired, I’ll find something else to keep you busy.”
Yana pulled open the drawer in her bedside table. “Take your pick.”
“I was thinking of putting you in front of the TV, but that works too...”
Yana picked up the button, and grinned. “Nah, there’s nothing good on Sunday afternoons anyway.” Then her body stopped moving as it softened into vinyl and air.
Darryl chuckled, and spent a the next few minutes admiring Yana’s handiwork. She was much more curvy like this, her hips and bust had expanded dramatically. It was hard to keep from playing with them, but he waited until the button dropped away from her hand. Darryl carefully put it away in its box, then closed his eyes and felt for the knotted magic. It seemed much like before, but brighter, as if made of something stronger. The decay was much slower than it had been with the dress, too, and Darryl wondered if that was due to Yana, the brightness, or both.
With that settled, Darryl let his libido have its way with Yana. It was hard to think of her as a mere doll, she was so lifelike, so very much his Yana even without the ability to move. A little part of his brain wondered if she’d be willing to be something more... anonymous. The rest of him just had a lot of sweaty fun.
Once he was spent, Darryl checked the knot in the magic again. It had faded slightly, but not by much. Before he got up to shower, he dug out one of Yana’s sex toys, and tucked it into his lovely Yana doll. “Have fun,” he murmured, as he turned it on.
Darryl checked back on her every half hour or so, and watched the knot of magic slowly fade. It was much slower than the dress, but as the knot faded, the decay seemed to be accelerating. As far as he could see, nothing was feeding into it. Though it was possible he was a little distracted by Yana’s current form...
After a little more than two hours, Yana’s return to flesh and blood was announced by her orgasmic moans. Darryl rushed upstairs to check on her, and got even more distracted.
By the time they were done, it was dinnertime, and no further experiments were conducted that night.
As the convention approached, Darryl got more and more frantic to finish his editing. KK started visiting Yana’s desk more frequently, talking about how amazing her plans would be if she could just find the right outfits. Yana found the attentions of the big-chested woman to be somewhat overwhelming, and wasn’t sure if KK was serious or not about promising Yana a turn in front of the cameras if she could get more dresses.
When Darryl picked Yana up from work on Friday, she was worn to a frazzle. KK insisted on meeting Darryl as well, giving him a hug and nearly burying him in her cleavage. “Be good to this one,” she hissed in his ear. “I like her.”
As they drove off, Darryl shook his head. “What was all that about?”
Yana shrugged. “That’s my boss. She can be... intense.”
“She’s the one who wants more of the dresses? Oy. No wonder you’re so keen to experiment. After the ‘con’s over, we’ll get this licked.”
Yana kissed Darryl on the cheek then snuggled against him as they settled in for the two-hour drive.
She got giggle fits every time their songs came up on the tape player.
The line to check in at the ‘con was much longer than the line at reception at the hotel, so they did the latter first. When they got up to their room, Yana stared about in wonder. “How’d you score a suite, and how much is this setting us back?”
Darryl smiled and gave Yana a hug then gestured for her to explore. “It’s a gift from my boss. They get an absurdly cheap rate when they book their block of rooms for the convention, especially as it’s an off weekend otherwise.”
Yana disappeared into the bedroom. “It’s bigger than your townhouse. Well, the downstairs, anyway.” The bed squeaked, and Darryl followed the noise to find Yana bouncing on the bed. He grinned at the sight of Yana perched atop it. She winked at him, and asked, “Where’s the button? I want to try this thing out from the inside.”
By the time Darryl had dug the button out of his suitcase, Yana was spread-eagled on the bed, naked. He touched it to the bed, turning the sheets to satin and sinking Yana into it until she was just a face and pillowy breasts. “Happy?”
Yana purred. “Deliriously. Pull it off.”
Darryl chuckled, and set the button aside. “One of these days we’ll figure out how to tie you into this form.”
Yana moaned, “Oh, I hope so. But until then... get in here and give me a good workout.”
“I should really go down and get our badges. That line’s not going to get any shorter,” Darryl said with an impish grin.
“Darryl! Don’t you da... What’s that?”
Darryl pressed the compact silver object into the middle of the bed. “Something to keep you company.” It started to vibrate, and Yana squealed. Then she started to moan in earnest. Darryl grinned, gave her a jaunty salute, and left.
As he walked back to the elevator, Darryl fingered a small device in his pocket. “I wonder how long a range the remote has...” He bumped it up a few steps, and thought he could hear a distant cry. He grinned.
An hour and a half later, Darryl returned with the badges. He set them on the side table, then went in to the bedroom. It was quiet, and he wondered if that was because Yana had fallen asleep. But when he looked at the bed, it was normal once more. He stepped over to the bedside table where the button had been, but didn’t see it. So where was...
Darryl felt the tingle of the button before he felt the pressure against the back of his neck. His body shrunk away to next to nothing, and what was left of him fell to the ground. Yana picked up the remnant with a grin. “You were a very naughty boy. I’m going to make sure you’re repaid in kind.”
In the morning, Darryl was somewhat surprised to wake up as a human. He grinned. Yana’s ‘revenge’ had been an awful lot of fun. He turned to where he could feel her warmth, and smiled. She was still out cold. She’d worn herself out with him and the silver egg last night. He kissed her tenderly, and her eyes flickered open.
“Morning, love. Did you have fun last night?” Darryl asked with a grin.
“Mmmh. That little toy of yours... gah, it took me an hour to adapt enough to focus and get free. If it had been changing like it did at first...”
Darryl chuckled softly. “It has a pattern cycle mode. I guess I should have used that.”
Yana’s eyes went wide. “Now? Please?”
“There’s an entire convention to go see. We can play with it later.”
“Awww. Fine. So what should I costume myself as?” Yana gazed upon the button with a speculative smile.
Darryl shrugged. “Whatever you like. I’ve got a couple of panels to go to, why don’t you explore the art show for ideas?”
Yana grinned, and gave him a kiss. “That sounds like a great idea. Can we meet back here when you’re done to try some of them out? I might need you to be part of the costume.”
“Sounds like something to look forward to. More so than panels on writing and editing, anyway. I should be back about one o’clock.” Darryl gave Yana a quick hug, then rushed to get ready.
Yana took her time getting ready to face the day, and lazily made her way to the convention floor. In her simple dress, nobody gave her a second look. There were people in everything from barbarian furs to skimpy spandex superhero outfits, and aliens of a dozen different types. It took Yana a little while to realize that the costume wearers were in the minority. Most people had perfectly normal clothes on... though there were a lot of T-shirts with funny quotes or fantastic art on them. Nobody seemed to be paying her any attention at all, all the admiring looks (and a few not-so-admiring ones) went to those in costume.
Yana’s desire to join the costumed ranks sent her in search of the art show. It was quieter in there, except for a knot of people around a covered-up display near the front. Yana shrugged, and explored. There was a beautiful centaur that caught her eye, but she realized that finding enough mass would be a problem. There were elves a plenty, and people with various kinds of animal ears and tails. Yana paused in front of a pretty mermaid for a while, reminiscing over her time as one on the camping trip.
The mirror-skinned cyborg in one picture caught Yana’s breath, and she memorized the look. A few panels later she found what she’d been unconsciously looking for since the centaur, a picture of a furred human joined at the waist with a panther’s body that she found striking. Now here was a manylegged costume she could do, if Darryl would help...
There was a cheer from the front of the room, and Yana drifted that way. The revealed display took her breath away. Unlike the pictures she’d been browsing so far, it was huge, wider across than her outstretched arms. The depicted forest looked glorious, every leaf and blade had been painted with incredible attention to detail. The dew on the grass seemed to shimmer in the morning light. Dancing in the clearing were a number of unusual figures, but Yana’s eyes were drawn to the dryad. Her hair was flowing and blonde, much like Yana’s own. Even her features were so close to Yana’s that it was like looking at a long-lost sister. The dryad’s dress seemed to mostly consist of artfully placed leaves, and Yana grinned at the idea of dressing like that.
Yana rushed back to the suite and scooped up the button. She spent some time imagining the changes, turning her dress into leaves, but also slight changes to her skin. The dryad had whorls and grains to her light brown skin, and Yana wanted... she felt the tingle of the button changing her, and took control before she turned into nothing more than a bodysuit with pointed ears. Once she felt stable and no longer quite so hollow, Yana tied the magic off, but kept the button on.
Yana posed in the mirror, marvelling at how she looked. She was the spitting image of the dryad in the picture, even her face had changed a little. The pointed ears were the most noticeable, but her eyes had taken on a leafier shade of green as well. Yana grinned, pinned her badge back on, and bounced out of the room to see what the con-goers would make of her.
It was everything she’d hoped for. She was the center of attention as she passed through the crowds, and even got asked to pose for a picture now and again. Then she heard a familiar voice.
“Yana? Is that you?”
Yana looked up at the fur-clad barbarian woman, and saw a face she recognized. “Heather? I didn’t know you’d be here...”
Heather grinned down at her friend. “What better place for a costumer to ply her trade? Let me see what you’ve done! That’s an incredible costume, I didn’t know you could do this kind of work... Or did you get it done?”
At Yana’s silence, Heather crouched to inspect the costume more closely. “These leaves look almost... real. And there are no seams... no stitches. How on earth did you make this?”
“I...” Yana had no idea what to say.
“And that picture was shown publicly for the first time today. To make a costume this fast, it’d take real magic.”
Yana could only stare at Heather in shock. Her mouth worked, but nothing came out.
Heather’s expression was no less surprised. “It is magic...” she breathed. “Tell me! Tell me tell me tell me tellmeee! Please!” She went to her knees and held her hands up to Yana in supplication.
“But... I...” Yana stared at her hyped-up coworker helplessly. “Oh bother.”
