A familiar old voice greeted Duncan when he answered the phone. “Darling, it has been too long. Come see me tomorrow night.”
Duncan grinned in spite himself. He hadn’t heard from Pauline – or anyone from the Blue Vixen either – since he’d given up the Moonstone. “I think I can free up some time. But why?” The fact that tomorrow night would be a full Moon made him slightly suspicious.
“I enjoyed our little chats.”
Duncan laughed. “Be that way. I’ll see you tomorrow. Seven-ish?”
Duncan’s wife Sidney shook her head when he mentioned Pauline’s request. “Still, she seems harmless enough. I’m sure she’d enjoy some company. Don’t be too late!”
The next night, Duncan knocked on Pauline’s workshop door shortly after 7pm. When he came in, he saw snippets of fabric draped everywhere. Pauline was obviously in the middle of a design frenzy. “Um, is this a bad time?”
The spry elderly woman tugged him inside with an excited twinkle in her eye. “No, is perfect time. You remember Heather, right? She... kept your last gift to her. Now she’s feeling too big for her britches, must have a dozen outfits done for her big break, has no time for poor old Pauline to fit them on her.”
Duncan blinked at all that. “So... Don’t you have a dummy to use?”
Pauline waved a hand at the tailor’s dummies lining the wall of the room. “Do any of those look like they have M-cup breasts?”
“Well, no.” Duncan noticed the significant look Pauline was giving him. “Hey, you know I gave up the Moonstone, right? I’m retired from the Blue Vixen gig.”
“Yes. And yet, here we are...”
