Megan finished getting ready for work, dreading the coming day. Of all of the people who could have been introduced as the new department head, why did it have to be her?

Everyone at work had gathered for a meeting the previous Friday. The purpose was to introduce their new boss. Megan didn't care too much at first. All of the bosses they've had since she began working in this office barely interacted with the regular workers at all. Megan expected that trend to continue, so she didn't think the identity of her new boss would matter that much.

That all changed when she walked in. It was the last person Megan expected to see again, much less be introduced as her new boss. It was Jackie.

Memories from high school came flooding back for Megan. Jackie was that weird girl who always sat alone. Megan never missed an opportunity to let her know how weird she was. Looking back, there were a lot of things that Megan was not proud of. She had done plenty of mean things to Jackie to raise her own social standing. She would shove her books off the table, trip her as she walked by, there was even one incident where Jackie was left locked in the gym's equipment room for an entire afternoon.

Megan hadn't thought about any of that in a long time. It was just petty kid stuff, nothing one should have to be concerned with in adulthood. However, there was no mistaking the look that Jackie gave Megan at one point during the meeting. It was only for a second, but the meaning of that look was perfectly clear. It was a sharp look of pure hatred. It was a stark contrast from the pathetic crying face she so often gave Megan back at school.

The meeting concluded without the two of them directly interacting. Megan could tell that Jackie was watching her as she left the conference room. It was hard to focus on her work for the rest of the day. All she could think about was her job potentially being jeopardized by a boss with a grudge against her. Her anxiety carried over into the weekend. Megan spent her two days off wondering how she should handle the situation. Should she apologize to Jackie, or would it be better to not bring it up? Megan eventually decided to just hope Jackie would be as distant as her previous bosses. The less they interacted, the better.

That Monday morning started normally enough for Megan. She arrived at the office, walked to her cubicle, and logged in to her computer. Her login hadn't been disabled, so she wasn't fired yet. She began to work. The morning passed by uneventfully. Megan did her usual work without Jackie or anyone else even talking to her. She then went for her lunch break and casually conversed with some of her coworkers. It was seeming likeĀ it would be a normal workday.

Megan had just returned to her cubicle and logged back in to her computer when she heard footsteps approaching. She turned around to see Jackie standing behind her. Megan's blood ran cold. Jackie's face didn't show any emotion, but Megan was still eager to avoid direct eye contact.

"May I see you in my office?" Jackie asked sharply. Megan was dreading what would come next, but did not dare refuse.

Megan's heart was pounding as she followed Jackie. Her eyes were firmly fixed on her feet. She quietly entered the office after Jackie. The door closed with an ominous finality.

"Well Megan, I'll get right to the point. Our budget for next year requires that we make some cuts. Unfortunately, your position is being eliminated." Jackie said in a flat, professional tone.

Megan's throat went dry, and she stood speechless for a moment. She was out of a job. She didn't have much money saved up. How long would it take for her to find a new job? Horrifying visions of ending up homeless and hungry crept into Megan's mind. She couldn't just accept this.

"Look, if this has anything to do with what happened back at school...." Megan began before Jackie raised a hand to cut her off.

"I'm not sure what you're referring to, but this decision was made based on the projected numbers, and nothing more. I understand this is not easy news to hear." Jackie stated without Megan believing her. Nonetheless Jackie continued speaking.

"We understand this isn't easy news to hear. We certainly don't want to leave any employees in a bad situation. It just so happens that there is another position available. If you're interested I can get you started on it right away." Jackie said, staring sharply at Megan the whole time.

Megan couldn't believe what she was hearing. Surely an alternate position being offered to her from Jackie had to have a catch. It probably paid less. It probably would be more work. However, Megan was not in a position to refuse. She could not afford a long job search. She would just have to take it for now. She could always look for other work while employed here if the new job became too demeaning.

"Alright, I'll take it. What are you going to have me doing?" Megan asked nervously.

"Well, take a look behind my desk." Jackie replied.

Megan walked over and looked. Behind Jackie's desk was an office chair lying on its side. Two of its wheels were broken off, laying in pieces by it.

"So you want me to fix your chair?" Megan asked, not sure why Jackie was showing her this.

"Not quite." Jackie said, her tone becoming more mocking. "Your new job will be to be my chair."

Megan stood there stunned. She was certain she had misheard Jackie. There was no way she just said something so ridiculous.

"I'm sorry, what did you just say?" Megan asked incredulously.

"My chair is broken and you're going to be my replacement chair." Jackie replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Now Megan was sure Jackie was messing with her. Her dread about losing her job turned into anger. It was bad enough that she was losing her job. Now Jackie was mocking her. She had heard enough.

"Alright, I get it. You got your chance to get revenge on me and you took it. Fine, I'll leave! It's obvious I was never going to get anywhere working for you anyway!" Megan shouted angrily.

"Oh, I was quite serious." Jackie replied calmly. "Besides, you already agreed to take the position."

Before Megan could make a move to leave, Jackie pointed her finger at Megan and muttered something incomprehensible. A strange green light appeared on Jackie's fingertip.

Then without warning, the light that had appeared on Jackie's fingertip shot straight into Megan's chest. Instantly Megan felt strange. She slowly fell backwards as her knees gave out, but she didn't hit the floor. Instead, her body settled into a sitting position. Megan's arms then moved on their own to stick out on either side of her chest. The truly weird sensations began when Megan felt her head begin to sink into her torso, which itself felt like it was becoming wide and flat. Her lap also felt like it was flattening and spreading out, but what was truly unnerving was the feeling that her thighs were merging together. Megan was unable to move any part of herself voluntarily, so she was unable to look down to see what was happening. She couldn't ask Jackie what was happening either as her voice no longer responded to her mind either. Jackie simply stood there, smiling at Megan.

The most jarring feeling of all came next. Her ankles also felt like they were merging together, but then they moved, no longer attaching to the rest of her at her knees. Instead her lower legs stuck out from the bottom of her thighs. Her feet felt like they were spreading out in five different directions. Megan truly could not process what was happening to her.

Then, everything stopped. Megan's body remained in the sitting position, feeling misshapen. However, she was completely still, no movement, voluntarily or not, occurred. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't move from the position she was in.

Jackie walked up to Megan with a satisfied look on her face. She grabbed Megan by the arm and spun her around. Something definitely wasn't right, though. While most of her body was spinning, her lower legs and feet remained stationary, as if they were the axis she was rotating on. After a few seconds of this, Jackie stopped Megan's spinning and continued to look at her with that smug grin.

"Well, now let's see how comfortable you are." Jackie said.

Before Megan could attempt to ask Jackie what she meant by that, Jackie began to pull Megan toward the desk. There was something not right about how easily Megan moved across the floor. It was as if she had wheels instead of feet.

Jackie positioned Megan in front of her desk. Then, Jackie stepped in front of Megan. Jackie's rear end was right in front of Megan as the latter frantically tried and failed to ask what was going on. Jackie then sat down on Megan. Instantly Megan was overwhelmed by Jackie's weight pushing down on her. Jackie's back was right in Megan's face. Jackie's butt pressed heavily into Megan's lap. Jackie leaned back and Megan tipped back as well supported by the oddly stiff rod that Megan felt in place of her lower legs. Jackie was treating her just like....a chair.

Jackie's bizarre words from earlier came back to Megan. She had thought that Jackie's talk of Megan's new job being a chair had just been to mock her. However, Megan was becoming more aware of how her body felt like it was shaped. Her lap seemed to be a seat while her head and torso felt fused into a backrest. Megan's arms extended for Jackie to rest her own arms on. Megan's lower legs had fused into a thin support. Her feet had spread out in five different directions to end in wheels.

Megan couldn't believe it. She didn't want to believe it. Nonetheless, each passing second made Megan more aware of how much her body felt like it was an office chair. It seemed Jackie really was serious about making Megan into her new chair.

Megan certainly wasn't able to forget Jackie's words now that Jackie was sitting on her as if she were an ordinary chair. Giving Megan no further acknowledgement, Jackie pulled the sentient chair closer to her desk and began typing on her computer. For hours Megan could do nothing but remain there with Jackie sitting on her. Megan felt it way too clearly every time Jackie shifted in her helpless seat. Megan had no idea if Jackie was always this fidgety or if she was only doing it to make Megan's situation worse. Megan couldn't move herself to get more comfortable. She could only take what Jackie's weight would give her.

The afternoon seemed like it would never end. The clicking of the keyboard and mouse were the only sounds Megan heard apart from the occasional deep breath from Jackie. No one entered the office to break the monotony. Megan's only company was Jackie, or more specifically, Jackie's butt and back. Every movement was a harsh reminder of what Megan was now stuck as. The shifting of Jackie's butt rubbed uncomfortably against what had been Megan's thighs. When Jackie leaned back, it cut off Megan's already limited view and gave Megan the feeling of being smothered despite not needing to breathe as a chair. In fact, Megan wasn't even sure how she was still conscious since chairs don't have brains.

Megan desperately wanted this to just be a bad dream. She just wanted to wake up and do her old job without complaint. The way Jackie's movements rubbed against her made it abundantly clear that this was no dream though. This should not be possible! Megan was absolutely terrified about what this could mean for her future. She grimly wondered how bitter Jackie was about everything that had happened back at school. How long was Jackie going to keep her like this before she was satisfied? What if she was never satisfied? Would Megan be left as an office chair permanently? Just a few hours of this was a nightmare unlike anything she could have imagined. She wouldn't be able to do anything to escape it if that was the case.

Just as Megan was about to fall into despair, Jackie pushed both of them back from the desk and stood up. Jackie stretched herself to loosen up and Megan wished she could do the same. Then, Megan felt movement from her own body. Slowly, the same strange feeling she felt as she transformed into a chair overtook her again. Her body began to reshape, this time becoming more normal. The whole thing felt as if she were being released from some tight restraints.

Before long, Megan collapsed to the floor. She instinctively pushed herself up with her arms. It took her a few seconds to realize that she had just moved on her own. She gasped and held her arm in front of her. It looked like a perfectly normal human arm and not a desk chair's armrest. Megan sat on the ground in stunned silence, slowly flexing her finger to make sure she could indeed move of her own volition again. Then Jackie's voice made her look up.

"So, I take it you have a good grasp of what your new job duties will be." Jackie said sternly.

Megan's attention was now fixed on Jackie. She had no idea what to say or do after what she had just been through. Fear overwhelmed her mind. She was afraid any little thing could provoke this woman who could somehow turn people into chairs. Jackie looked as if she could sense Megan's fear. Her face flashed a satisfied smile.

"I'll take that as a yes." Jackie said. Megan still could not bring herself to say anything. Nonetheless, Jackie knew that she had Megan's attention and continued speaking.

"As you've noticed, you and I will be working very closely with each other from now on. I've emailed your schedule to you. You are expected to be at your workstation behind my desk at your start time. You will remain at your workstation doing your job until your shift ends. Do you understand what's expected of you?" Jackie said, looking at Megan with a threatening glare.

Megan could only nod meekly in reply.

"Good, I look forward to working with you. See you tomorrow." Jackie said in a suddenly friendly tone. With that Jackie walked out of the office, leaving a stunned Megan to contemplate the situation she now found herself in.
