The sun shone brightly through the window in the small bedroom.
Everything in the room had remained exactly as it was for the past three days as the room's owner had been gone all weekend. Even so it hardly made a difference to the one set of eyes in the room.
Resting on the shelf on the wall opposite of the window, was a small figurine bearing the appearance of Kari from the Digimon anime. One would not be able to tell by looking at it, but this figure was once a living breathing person named Chelsea and that she was still aware of her surroundings even in her present state.
She had no idea how long it had been since that fateful day. She had been attending an anime con dressed in her Kari costume and agreed to allow a strange guy to photograph her, which somehow had transformed her to the plastic form she had been stuck in ever since. The guy had brought her to this room and placed her on the shelf and she had not been moved from there at all up to now.
So she stood on this shelf, her view never changing. The guy who had done this to her seemed to only come into this room to sleep. In fact, he had not acknowledged Chelsea' presence in the room at all since he placed her on this shelf. She had not been able to learn anything at all about her captor. His name, how he had done this to her, why he had done it, was all information that had eluded her.
As a result, she spent most of her time staring at the stationary room. Her mind drifting into a blank daze that she only snapped out of during the brief periods when there was movement in the room. She had lost all track of time as a result, watching the days pass in a dull malaise that at least spared her from endlessly agonizing over her inescapable situation.
Suddenly, she was awoken from her stupor by the door swinging open. The guy had entered the room and placed his bag on the bed as Chelsea silently cursed him for snapping her back to reality. He opened up the bag and began unpacking it. One of the objects removed from the bag caught her attention. It was a program from the convention she had been attending. Then she noticed the date of the program.
"I've been stuck like this for a year...." this revelation had made her as painfully aware of her predicament as she had been since she had first been changed. What would have been her freshman year at college had entirely passed with her instead gathering dust on this shelf. What she was missing was hitting her hard, and if he had kept her here for this long there was no reason to think she would ever be changed back.
The guy then moved to the shelf and placed something on the other end. When his hand moved away she saw that it was another figure which she recognized as Sailor Mars. This sight brought a new wave of dread as she wondered if this Sailor Mars figure also used to be a person who had had the misfortune of finding herself alone with this strange man.
From the other end of the shelf, the Mars figure, which had been a young woman named Amanda, was wondering the same thing about the Kari figure across from her. Suddenly finding herself transformed into a plastic figure and stuffed into a duffle bag was bad enough, but seeing another figure filled her with more dread at the idea of being added to some sick collection. The layer of dust that had formed on the other figure was particularly haunting. Amanda was trying very hard not to imagine herself gathering dust forever on this shelf, but the possibility was undeniable.
Having placed the Sailor Mars figure in her new home, the guy exited the room, leaving the two of them alone with their thoughts once more.
