Don’t Panic When You Lose Your Head
Jen folded her arms. Then unfolded them. Then refolded them again. Then for the fifth or sixth time, she ran her hands around her shoulders.
She focused on the reflection in the bathroom mirror. Outside the door the sounds of the house party were muffled by the bathroom fan.
“Stay. Calm.” She told herself, as if she needed the reminder. She would have said those words out loud if she was able to. But she wasn’t.
This was weird. All of this was weird. Especially the part where she was really, really … enjoying it.
This was sexy. This was … fucking hott with two Ts.
But that feeling was mixing with a weird anxiety coming up from her stomach.
She should be worried, she thought to herself. But she wasn’t. And maybe that worried her even more. Or it should have.
She pictured herself taking heavy, panicked breaths. Crying. Screaming. But that didn’t happen either.
She just felt … well, present. In the moment. And weirdly, relaxed.
Someone knocked on the bathroom door.
“Just a second,” was what she wanted to say. But she couldn’t. Wasn’t able to. She couldn’t actually talk.
She couldn’t talk because, well…
She no longer had a head.
This was the whole reason she’d needed to escape to the bathroom in the first place. To analyze. To process this.
She.
Had.
No.
Head.
The sight in the mirror was just a girls body — her body — with shoulders that smoothly ran across. She didn’t even have a trace of a neck stump. It looked like she’d never even had a head once in her life.
Just a body. That was all she was now.
How she was able to see, to hear, but not to talk… she hadn’t even begun to try and unravel those realities yet.
Another knock. She couldn’t wait in the bathroom forever. She’d just have to get her shit together and rejoin the party. Except she couldn’t talk. Or make eye contact. The previous ten minutes, since losing her head, had been a rather exhausting game of charades any time she needed to ‘say’ something.
Just as she was going to open the door, her phone chirped. Since it was already in her hand, she glanced at it.
It was Hannah.
“😘 U in there?” read the text.
She flung open the door. There was Hannah. Holding her phone.
Hannah was involved in this too. You might even say it was her fault. Since it had been Hannah she was dating, and Hannah who’d invited her to come to this party, and also Hannah who’d suggested they play that game of beer pong ‘head to head’ against Maggie and Lara.
The thing was, Hannah didn’t have a head either. Not anymore. Because they’d lost the game. Together. And then Maggie had pulled out a magic wand and zapped them both in the face.
Jen tried to process whatever emotions she was having in that moment. She wondered if Hannah had had a face, if she’d have slapped it. No. Probably not. Hannah was just so fucking cute. There was no way to actually get mad at this girl. Not to mention that Jen wasn’t angry about it, just felt like she ought to be.
As if on cue, Hannah made a heart with her hands and gestured to Jen.
Jen began a charades act to try and communicate that they needed to talk. After only two seconds she realized this was going to be infinitely harder given that Hannah couldn’t just call out stuff like the other people she’d tried to ‘talk’ to already.
Hannah held up one finger in a ‘wait’ signal. Then she grabbed Jen’s hand and led her down the hallway into an unoccupied room, apparently Maggie’s home office, and suitably away from the rest of the party.
Hannah found a small whiteboard and marker. She then drew a smiley face and showed it to Jen. She then gestured to the couch in the corner of the room, and they both sat down.
Hannah handed the dry erase board and marker to Jen, and seated next to her put her arm around her shoulders. Jen leaned into the hug. While there were a lot of questions on her mind, she had no idea where she wanted to start.
“I don’t get how I can still see,” she finally wrote. “Without any eyes.”
“Magic,” wrote Hannah. “Weird magic.”
That pretty much summed it up.
“Also,” wrote Jen, “We lost our heads!”
“Yes
” wrote Hannah. She gave a thumbs up, and then gestured a cutting motion across Jen’s non-existent neck.
“I feel like I should be more worried about this,” said Jen. “But I just … am not.”
“Magic,” wrote Hannah again, this time circling it a few times. “Also your body looks fucking hottt.”
Hannah traced a finger around Jen’s empty shoulders and down the middle of her chest. Her other hand slid around Jen’s shoulders to her ass. Jen snuggled in closer. Seeing Hannah without a head was also … well, it was stirring something up. They were just so … physical.
With her own hands, she went right for the good stuff, taking two handfuls of Hannah’s ample tits.
Desire met desire, and two bodies instincts began to take over.
Fuck it, she thought. It’s not like they could moan accidentally like this anyway.
A Lot of Leg Preview
So okay. It was all pretty strange at first.
I was confused. Very confused. And I had a lot of questions but no way to ask them.
I guess there’s a lot to get our readers caught up on.
My name is Judy. I’m 30-ish, married, American, female, no kids thank you very much, and I work in tech stuff. You can probably surmise that “30-ish” is a strategic choice for “over thirty” because 20-somethings just give their real age, and that I live on one of the coasts in a major metro. Both of those assumptions would be correct.
Other things about me that are maybe more interesting, and probably relevant here:
- My husband Mark and I have been together 6 years (married 2), and have somehow managed to maintain some kind of open relationship. It’s hard to explain I guess, except to say that something just has always ‘clicked’ where our own interest in the other’s pleasure simply outweighed any feelings of jealousy, and that we’ve both worked hard enough on ourselves to fight any anxieties about inadequacy. So when you find out where we’re headed with this story, don’t judge mmkay?
- It helps probably that both of us are a bit kinky, stay tuned for details at 11.
- Our current ‘interest’ in that world has been another couple we met a couple weeks before, overall pretty similar profile, named Lucas and Maggie. They’re both very tall, lanky, and athletic. Mark and I are pretty fit too, but not to the degree of these two. Where we last left our hero (that’s me, lol) I was third-wheeling it with the two of them at some kind of fundraiser for a coral reef thing. Mark, sadly, was out of town on a work trip to Belgium and later Amsterdam. Yes it’s weird to me that we are adults.
- I am, at the present moment in our story, nothing but a pair of legs. That’s right. Just. Legs. Well okay, I have a pair of hips, and my ass connecting those legs. But everything over the waist? Gone. Not there. Poof. Magic.
I guess, in light of that, I can back this story up to earlier, so we can explain just how that all came to be.

The Settling of Catan & Its Aftermath
“Boom! City! That’s game!”
Gina slammed her cards down on the table, then casually tossed out the last piece onto the board, not bothering to replace her settlement.
“Damn it!” said Caitlyn. “All I needed was one god damn sheep.”
“The sheep embargo for the win!” I said.
“Shut up Josh,” said Caitlyn, dropping her hand on the board. “And you didn’t win.”
“I stopped you from winning,” I said with a shrug.
“You’re in last place,” repeated Caitlyn with a mocking smirk.
“Yeah, okay.”
“Anyway,” said Gina. “Let’s trade them.”
She handed me a swap collar, gave another to Caitlyn, then took one for herself. They were the new kind, made of thick plastic and fasted around the whole neck. They looked and felt a bit like a neck brace, but they were much better than the movable ones because the positioning was more consistent.
“Last place goes first,” said Caitlyn.
I sighed, placed the collar around my neck, then fastened and tightened the two clasps.
“Are you going to—“ I started to say.
Then Caitlyn reached over and switched the collar on.
I felt the magic happen. A cold shock through my spine. As often as we did stuff like this, practically every weekend at this point, I never got used to that initial jolt after a few ‘magic-free’ days.
My reality stopped for a moment. It’s kind of hard to describe this if you haven’t tried it yourself. A lot of people imagine it might be dark, or quiet, but it isn’t. Not because there’s a lot of light or sound, but those things — those senses — just stop existing for a moment.
There was a reason for this — I didn’t have a head any more.
Actually, to be more precise, the head that was attached to my neck was no longer my head. I could no longer use it to see or hear, or any of that stuff you normally do with a head. But that was also about to be fixed.
The collar warmed up with a different kind of magic. Then I felt the weight shift off of my neck and shoulders. Either one of the girls had taken it off, or quite possibly, it had just rolled off on its own.
Now I was actually, well, headless. So whatever happened to that head wasn’t my problem any more.
And you want to know something? I actually kind of love it. It’s one of those things that people either love or hate, like cilantro or hoppy IPAs or reality TV.
Granted I know, not having a head can seem weird. You can’t see. Can’t hear. Can’t smell or taste. Hell, even ‘thinking’ isn’t the same.
But just imagine that instead of all of those senses, you get touch. And that both the experience of touch and the reaction to it, comes to occupy an equal portion of your consciousness as what all of those did before.
So as you can probably imagine, priorities can be realigned a lot in this state. It’s something that both myself and my girlfriend Lisa really like. A lot.
Anyway. Lisa wasn’t in town this weekend for a work thing. So I’d be officially ‘loaned’ out to Caitlyn and Gina, in exchange for the promise of pics and … well Lisa didn’t tell me what they were offering her. The upsides for me were apparent enough in this.
But so far, all I’d managed to do was lose a game of Settlers. And that meant I’d now also lost my head.
Booting up.
System Check....... OK
Welcome to MageOS. Please wait for senses to be switched on. The glowing green letters of the collar’s ‘inside’ display seemed to hang out in space. Which was honestly pretty disconcerting because I didn’t really have a position in that space that I could conceptualize. The letters were just ‘Out There.’
Flick.
The world appeared again. The same but different. Sounds and sights were back, and along with them, things like perspective and light.
But it was not because I had my head back. Rather just the collar’s two cameras and microphone getting switched on.
Seeing through the cameras for the first time is always a bit weird. The first ones were always a bit grainy, but the new model collars are unusually sharp especially versus the glasses I usually wear. What is more limited is your field of vision, but I’ve heard they also make fake heads that let you see 360 degrees.
Anyway. Now I could see again. And both Gina and Caitlyn were staring at me and squinting. Gina, seated across, was apparently filming this on her cell phone.
“Is he switched on?” said Gina.
“The light just came on. Josh you in there?” Caitlyn waved in front of my face. Or camera. Whatever.
I tried to say something.
“I think he’s trying to talk,” said Gina. “The little screen is moving.”
“We’ve got you on mute, loser,” said Caitlyn. “Give us a thumbs up or down.”
I reluctantly offered a thumbs up.
“Eyyyy!” said Gina approvingly. “You’re in there. Wave to your girlfriend, headless guy!”
I offered a wave. I wondered if this was a video or a FaceTime thing.
“Hey Josh,” said Caitlyn, her voice lowering in tone. “Does this look familiar?”
She picked up something out of her lap. It was my head.
Or it used to be my head. I knew Caitlyn was fond of that pointing out that difference.
“This used to be your head,” said Caitlyn, setting the head down on its cheek facing me. The eyes stared ahead vacantly.
“He’s got no head!” added Gina brightly. She adjusted something with the phone and turned it around in selfie mode to show the whole scene. “We cut off your boyfriend’s head!”
“Josh has no heaaaa—d, Josh has no heaaaa—d,” repeated Caitlyn in the rhythmic of a schoolyard tease. Gina joined in a moment later.
This chant was, at this point, more or less traditional. It had started, I don’t know, like a couple months ago — whenever a reason to take away someone’s head came up, it was the obligation of everyone else to mock them for it. Constantly.
Gina got up and advanced with the phone.
“Can you give us the money shot,” she said.
I made a palms up gesture.
“Come on, you know what we want,” she added.
I did know. I leaned forward to show off my empty neck, and then made a swiping gesture with my hands through where my head wasn’t.
“Oh yeah,” said Caitlyn sarcastically. “Get a load of that neck stump action.”
Gina giggled in response. I patted my hands along the surface of my empty neck.
The surface left behind by the magic was made to look like skin, and to the touch, feel like it too. It didn’t however feel much like skin. Being generated by the magic itself, it had a kind of uncanny valley effect to being touched there. Lisa liked it for some reason and always loved getting kissed there when we got rid of her head. To me it just felt like touching the inside of my throat.
“Lisa,” said Caitlyn, “I think I like him better this way. When you see this, I’d like you to consider just, taking away Josh’s head forever.”
“You’re always so mean to him,” said Gina, not sounding sympathetic in any way at all.
“He’s mean to me back, it’s our thing,” said Caitlyn. “And besides, he didn’t trade his fucking sheep, so now head’s gone. See what happens Josh? See what happens when you don’t trade any sheep?”
She triumphantly held up my (previous) head for Gina to film with the phone, holding onto a handful of my hair.
“And, send,” announced Gina. She stopped taking the video.
“I’m kind of horny now,” said Caitlyn, her eyes meeting my camera. “You know what I was remembering, is that time on that ski trip when you and me lost our heads for the night, and they just locked us both in that bedroom together—“
“Because neither of you sluts would keep your hands to yourselves,” interjected Gina.
“And it was so nice, just some good old classic guy on girl action, no girlfriends to bother us,” continued Caitlyn.
“Uh, rude,” said Gina.
“Let’s do that again man,” said Caitlyn. “Just get a hotel room for the weekend, get rid of our heads, and just go at it like animals, and you’ll give me so much dick—“
Gina folded her arms and smirked crossly.
Caitlyn ignored her and started to crush my (former) face into her tits.
“You know,” continued Caitlyn, starting to blur her words together through clenched teeth. “I love me some pussy, but sometimes I just need that dick, and there’s just like a shortage of that around here you know—”
“Caitlyn Amber Caswell,” said Gina flatly.
Caitlyn’s eyes went wide with excitement.
“Oh she full named me,” said Caitlyn, grinning at me. “Yes my dear?”
“First thing. Get your head the fuck off your shoulders,” said Gina.
“Okay,” said Caitlyn, grinning.
“Second thing. You don’t get to fuck Josh without me.”
“What if we traded you Lisa,” said Caitlyn.
“Lisa’s not here,” said Gina.
“But if she was— you know laterrr—“ probed Caitlyn.
“Well, yeah, that would be fine,” said Gina, with an indifferent shrug.
Caitlyn grinned at me. I returned a thumbs up.
“Oooh, we have a date,” she said excitedly, putting her hand on my arm.
“Head. Off.” repeated Gina.
“Okay, I’m doing it,” said Caitlyn, picking up one of the other collars on the table, and putting it on.
This time I could see the whole process from the outside. Caitlyn cinched down the clasps until the collar fit snugly. She flicked a switch near the top of it, and suddenly her eyes glazed over.
The collar lit up briefly with a flash of magical energy. Then Caitlyn deftly caught her head as it rolled off her shoulders. She set it down on the table, cheek to cheek with my own former head.
She reached up and flicked her collar ‘on.’ A green LED came to life.
“Okay! Heads off!” piped up Caitlyn, her voice coming from a speaker on the collar. As she said that a small screen also on the front of the collar came to life with a waveform of the sound. It was fairly useless for communication except it did make the collars look more ‘mad science.’ Which was maybe the point.
“Great,” said Gina. “My turn.”
With a series of practiced steps, Gina repeated the same process that Caitlyn just had. A moment later her own head joined the other two on the table.
“Now,” said Gina, talking through her speaker. “Which one do I want?”
“Girlll, you look hot there with that body,” said Caitlyn. The speaker echoed out the extra ‘L’s robotically. I was never sure how she was able to get the collars to do that, but I wasn’t able to practice now anyway. “You don’t even need a head.”
“Thanks babe,” said Gina. “But I think I want one.”
Gina picked up what had been Caitlyn’s head, and turned it over as if for inspection.
“Specifically, I think I want your head,” said Gina.
“Hey, that means I have to have Josh’s stupid head,” said Caitlyn, gesturing wildly with open palms.
“You always talk about how cute he is,” said Gina.
“I know he is but don’t tell him,” said Caitlyn, indignantly.
“Besides, you can still pick my head.”
“Yeah, but then Josh would get his own head back, and I can’t let him,” said Caitlyn.
“Well,” said Gina, conclusively, “I want your freckles. So this is what I’m picking.”
Gina placed Caitlyn’s head on her neck. The collar’s light went from green to blue. As opposed to Gina’s half-asian features, she was now a freckled sandy blonde.
Gina blinked. Licked her lips.
“Ahh,” she said. “That’s more like it.”
She unfastened the collar around her neck, and set it back on the table. She flexed her neck experimentally.
“Well okay then,” said Caitlyn. “Guess I’m a cute boy now.”
Caitlyn picked up my former head, and placed it on her own neck. The same process of re-attachment took place.
“Mmm,” said Caitlyn, smacking her lips. “Boy mouths always taste weird.”
“Your turn Josh,” said Gina, pushing the remaining head halfway across the table towards me.
“You know,” said Caitlyn, intercepting Gina’s former head. “We could just not give him a head… You could have my head and I could have yours and he could still have none…”
“But I want him to be a girl—“ said Gina, with a pursed lips like it had been some agreed upon secret.
“Fine,” said Caitlyn. “But Josh, you owe me a weekend now.”
I returned an okay sign. Caitlyn handed me the head.
I put my new head on. This time the change was sudden, and for a moment blurry as the artificial senses of the collar were replaced by real ones again.
When you try on a new head there’s always a weird feeling at first. I always first notice how colors of the world are slightly different, like you’re looking through an Instagram filter. Then there’s the new mouth, a new tongue, both of those together. But after that there’s all these other little things you discover over the next few minutes. The new shape of your ears. Your new haircut. The feeling your cheeks have when you smile.
“Thanks,” I said, letting out a sigh. Finally at least I could talk again. I removed the collar and set it by the other two.
“Awww,” said Caitlyn, grinning broadly.
“What?” I asked, squinting in confusion.
“Your voice! It’s girly.”
“I guess?” I said. “It’s like … my same vocal cords, but Gina’s mouth.”
“It’s your mouth,” corrected Caitlyn. “Your chick mouth.”
“Picture time,” interrupted Gina. We paused for Gina to snap a selfie of the three of us, which, I could only assume, was about to be sent to Lisa.
“You really said I was cute?” I said to Caitlyn, not having had the chance to give her a ribbing about it before.
“What? Of course you’re cute. You’ve got my girlfriend’s head, what I am supposed to say?”
“Well, you said before— About my head—“
“Well, I’m cute, yes,” said Caitlyn, framing her face with two hands.
“You said I was cute,” I repeated flatly.
“You know,” said Caitlyn. “This is why I like you better without a head.”
“Okay you two,” said Gina, bored with our banter. “Another game?”
“That last one took forever,” I said.
“Or something else then,” said Gina.
“SmashBros,” said Caitlyn. Her eyes met Gina’s with some kind of unsaid purpose.
“Legs?” said Gina. Her eyes moved to indicate me.
“Legs,” confirmed Caitlyn.
“Okay,” said Caitlyn, grabbing my hand in hers. “Come on let’s go.”
“Go where?”
“I’m taking you to the living room,” she said. “So we can play Smash. And also cut you the fuck in half.”
