Jenny did her best to hold herself still, ugly fear pulsing through her veins. Still and silent as a crypt, as she strained her ears to listen for the telltale sounds that something was happening.
Jenny had been snatched up as she was walking out to a Halloween party, taken captive from the very streets by a guy and a gal dressed in realistic cop uniforms. She had cottoned on to them not being cops when, after she was cuffed, they shoved a large ball gag into her mouth, covered with a leather panel, and hustled her over to their vehicle. A bag had gone over her head, and she had screamed and struggled as best she could, the mind numbing fear blanketing her brain and making her pant on the edge of panic.
Yet now here she was, and if anything was even more afraid as the silence deepened.
She had been told she was bait.
Bait, to lure a superheroine.
Jenny wasn't certain how these goons intended to capture or...or...she gulped...otherwise deal with the heroine in question, but they seemed supremely confident in their abilities...and had threatened Jenny with exceedingly ugly consequences if she made so much as a peep to warn said heroine when she should appear. Jenny was to simply sit still on the chair they had roped her to, and pray that they didn't do anything further to her.
There!
Jenny twitched in her bonds, hearing the feather light foot steps of someone pitter pattering towards her. She bit down on her gag, letting out an ever so faint keening sound, unwilling to entirely surrender to her own fear. She couldn't stay silent at the cost of someone else's freedom or life. She had to warn them!
The footsteps stopped. The silence stretched. And then the shouting started.
Jenny squealed as a series of loud bangs and explosions sounded, amid more shouts and screams, and suddenly the dark was transformed into day.
Framed in the doorway was a woman dressed all in dark blues and blacks, yet with an open grinning face. She had flicked the light switch on.
"Hey there you, thanks for the heads up." The woman tapped her ears and then stepped swiftly to Jenny, her footsteps nearly silent. Outside the explosions continued, with much sounds of crashing and destruction continuing. She circled around behind Jenny, still with a finger to an earbud, "Mmhm. Mmhm. Yep, she's here Starlight, no problem. Just a few bumps and bruises, nothing I can't handle. You take care of the trash, and I'll get her outta here."
The woman did something and Jenny felt all the ropes loosen within moments. She squirmed free, blushing and wideeyed as the woman sketched a small curtsy, "Hiya. You can call me--"
"Night Ranger!" Jenny blurted, blushing yet unable to help herself, "I...I've seen you...bouncing around, I've...I'm...thank you!"
The woman, Night Ranger, paused with a small grin on her face. Her hair was a bluish purple, matching her outfit, and her somewhat pale face seemed to shine amid the otherwise dark colours. She flicked some rope away idly and then wrapped an arm around Jenny's waist, "Well...you seem like someone with a little case of the hero-worship huh?"
Jenny flushed and Night Ranger laughed, "Not to worry darling, unlike some others, I rather enjoy it."
Then she leaned in, her lips meeting Jenny's own in a kiss that signalled triumph...and Jenny found that all traces of her fear had fled as Night Ranger swept her into her arms more fully...before spiriting her away from the warehouse to safety.
Lady Starlight and the others were more than sufficient to tidy up the villainous circle that had been intent on capturing some of the League for nefarious purposes...
