Some couples send Christmas cards, but Josh and Kylie like to get in the spooky spirit. Each fall, as soon as the cards get mailed out, the challenge among their friends and colleagues is to find her detached and well-hidden head at a local pumpkin patch. This year, Josh decided to join in the fun, the postcard description on the back upping the ante - another head to have and to hold if you can find it, too.
The thing is, there's several within 15mins of their place. This year, me and my girlfriend Maura are dead set to have this little piece of Kylie as a decoration (and more) until the day after Halloween. I'd settle for the rest of her but I'll be the dutiful boyfriend, for now. Maura suggests Shady Vine Farms, saying they haven't hidden Kylie's head there in years and she thinks she saw Josh's car head to that direction the other day. I playfully suggest there's perfectly headless bodies back where that car is parked now, but Maura laughs that off, saying where's the fun it that. Even though Josh wouldn't mind (literally, how could he without a brain), the beheaded body of his CrossFit-enthusiast wife has been known to "stay over after girls' nights" at our place. The "fun in that" is those powerful thighs squeezing my head like a melon but I bite my tongue.
"But what if we find Josh's head instead?" I ask as I buckle up my seatbelt.
"Then I'll be outnumbered and you'll have a bro to bro out with, what's the problem with that?" she replies. "I don't mind, do you?"
I don't, we've watched his body when Kylie took a long weekend with just his head. But Kylie's head is our goal. Maura's cleared a spot in the entry way for the prized noggin. I've tidied up my nightstand because I know Maura's got a mid-week work trip coming up and it'd be rude to leave Kylie alone. All of Kylie, in my humble opinion.
Our search begins. This feels like the year.
