Penny couldn’t remember a great deal of what had happened to her and nor had she been able to make sense of anything since regaining consciousness thanks to the tightly tied blindfold.
She had been making the final touches to her latest self-portrait when a sudden and agonizing pain had exploded in the back of her head, she remembered falling to the floor, seeing a shadow standing over her and then nothing but darkness.
It had to have been hours since her attack, the pain had dulled considerably and even though Penny couldn’t see it, she knew she was in another place, a place brimming with the sounds of bustling crowds. Penny had felt instantly embarrassed upon hearing the myriad of voices and the constant stepping of walking feet on polished floor; she was indoors, semi naked and unable to move any great deal or speak at all. The ropes and chains that she could feel around her arms and legs and torso had forced her into an elegant position that was hard for Penny to imagine in her mind; it wasn’t an uncomfortable position but Penny knew that it’d leave nothing to the imagination for anyone who looked upon her, she could tell that her legs had been forced apart and that her arms had been tied so tightly behind her back that there’d be no way for her to shield any part of her body with them.
Time and time again while every second seemed endless, Penny would try and figure out just who had done this to her and why, but always came up with nothing. She had tried to speak through the ball gag lodged between her teeth in the hope that her captor would tell her to be quiet or stop misbehaving, but all she heard was the light laughter of the crowd seemingly passing by her, laughter that seemed to say that her muffled pleas for help were cute and endearing… the same response would also come if she dared to struggle against her bonds, and for a time Penny had continued with her mumbling pleas and futile struggling hoping to recognise a voice in that crowd that never spoke up.
After what felt like hours later, Penny had resigned herself to her helpless situation, she had bitten into her ball gag for a sense of comfort while trying to block out the world of sound around her. nothing and no one had touched her since she had regained consciousness, all that she had felt with the light breezes left by those who had walked by a little too closely to her, which is why when a tender hand touched her cheek she recoiled and gasped as best she could from behind her gag.
“Hey, don’t worry” spoke a soft voice through Penny’s darkness “the exhibition won’t last much longer. You’re not the only one here so don’t feel too embarrassed.”
Penny couldn’t stop her voice from mumbling desperate pleas for help from the voice which had spoken to her, she had thrust her head and jaw forward as a sign for the ball gag to be taken from her mouth and struggled against the chains and ropes in the hope that she’d be released from them but instead the tender hand on Penny’s cheek merely stroked her to calm her down as the voice spoke once more.
“Shhh, shhh, it’s okay, nothing is going to happen to you, you’re safe here. And when the exhibition is over I’ll untie you myself and take you home, okay? But you have to behave; there are only three hours left. You can behave for me can’t you?”
Penny was overcome with a rush of emotions, she wanted to cry, scream out in fear and lash out with anger but knew that none of them would be a wise decision to make so instead she nodded, mumbled her agreement and felt the tender touch slip away from her face.
Penny hung her head as the sound of heels moved from her and into the crowd, alone once more Penny turned her mind to counting the minutes; she knew that three hours was going to feel like an eternity for her…
