“Th... This is it, my Lord?”

“Indeed, Akio. You would do well to be very careful with it. Or else you may not live to see it again.”

Lord Kenzo Noboru towered over his advisor. The daimyo was known for his imposing figure, tall and broad, with muscle definition that had not faded despite his four decades of life. His clean-shaven face revealed a strong jawline, and along with his shaven head, chonmage topknot, and elaborate kamishimo outfit, made it clear his high status.

“Of… Of course, my Lord.”

Akio was a much less impressive sight by comparison, thin and wiry, many years of stressful work as an attendant catching up to him. His sharp, gaunt features were accentuated as he paled. He looked down at the object held in his shaking hands. A simple ledger, bound with careful stitching.

“Now, before you get your sweat all over it…”

Noboru moved to the back of the dark room and gestured towards a simple lockbox. Akio nodded meekly and scurried over, then lifted the lid and carefully placed the ledger inside. He closed the box and ensured the latch was secure before stepping away. Noboru put his arms behind his back and grunted.

“I leave it to you to ensure that knowledge of this ledger does not leave this room. Once the next court is held, I’ll have what I need to triple my influence, at least.”

“You could even become the next shogun, my Lord!” Akio quipped excitedly, but quickly withered under a stern look from Noboru.

“Do not get excited, fool. Things are to be business as usual. Understand?”

“Y-yes, my Lord.”

With another grunt, Noboru turned and left the hidden room with Akio in tow. The two made their way through the large castle which Noboru called home. It was an impressive estate, with multiple buildings each with multiple floors, tall walls, and sprawling gardens and courtyards. Noboru was the most influential lord for many miles, with an entire province under his jurisdiction. The many servants and vassals that roamed the many halls all froze and bowed as Noboru passed, fearful of reprimand.

However, Noboru remained silent as he went. A silence that was terrifying in its own right. Akio wrung his hands nervously as the path Noburo was taking became clearer and clearer. Despite his vast wealth, and the promise of much more hidden away in the lockbox, Noboru was in an extremely foul mood, and had been for multiple moons now.

Eventually, the pair reached their destination, near the front entrance. Noboru took hold of the sliding door and slammed it open, shaking the whole wall. Beyond the door was a small, humble space with nothing but a wide table currently covered in all manner of herbs, talismans, and other medical implements, seemingly in the process of being packed into a small box. A lone figure stood in the room, jumping in surprise at the sudden entrance.

“Daichi!” Noboru growled. “What have you determined?”

The man shakily turned to face Noboru. Daichi was short and thin, though unlike Akio, had round features and clear signs of aging, with visible lines and graying hair.

“Eh, well… My Lord… That is…”

“Out with it!” Noboru roared.

Daichi shrank back and swallowed nervously before continuing.

“I’m sorry, but it seems… Our suspicions have been confirmed.”

——————

The space was dark.

The man moving through the hallway couldn’t help but marvel at how dark it was, despite having been there on a few prior occasions. Small, barely flickering candles high upon the walls provided just enough light to ensure any within would not be completely blind, but the light almost seemed to falter and give out halfway to where one would normally expect it to reach.

The man did not mind, however. He was of average build and dressed in a deep navy blue ensemble reminiscent of a humble farmer, an unassuming outfit that ordinarily would not garner any attention. However, the matching gauntlets and face covering that left only his eyes exposed created a different image-one of a mysterious shinobi.

The ninja’s footsteps made no sound as he completed his trek down the hall, coming to a pair of sliding doors. With practiced movements, he opened the doors and stepped inside. The room beyond was cavernous and truly lightless, save for a pair of candles in the distance flanking a raised platform with a cushion. The man moved through the space, eventually coming to the platform, and a second cushion set out before it. With a measure of reverence, he sat down.

“Welcome, Shingen.”

Shingen raised his head with a start. Sitting calmly on the platform before him was another man, dressed in a simple but high-quality hakama. The man seemed impossibly ancient, with the myriad wrinkles across his uncovered face almost seeming to force his eyes closed. Shingen quickly regained his composure and bowed.

“Thank you. I am honored to be before the kashira of the Moritoki clan.”

“I am sure you are.” The voice of the clan chief sent a shiver down Shingen’s spine. He could barely detect the malice hidden within the words. “You must be wondering why I have summoned you here.”

“Of course. The Moritoki clan is renowned within the shadows. What use would you have of me?”

The chief opened his eyes slightly, dark slits that pierced Shingen down to his very core. A mirthless smile cracked the ancient lips, and Shingen had to remind himself of the danger. For one to survive so long in a profession where men die young, the patriarch was certainly not one to take lightly.

“You yourself are quite notable, Shingen. Your exploits as of late have reached my ears. You have a certain… Set of skills that I have determined will be useful to undertake this task.”

The chief produced a slip of paper from his sleeve.

“Lord Kenzo Noboru has been colluding with several other provincial lords, and has secretly kept an extensive record of the illicit deals that have transpired as a result. Our employer has reason to believe Noboru plans to reveal these records, taking down his former co-conspirators and cementing himself as a hero of sorts… And thus take over the fiefs of the disgraced lords.”

“I assume obtaining these records to be the goal. And that the situation could then be reversed upon Noboru.”

“Precisely. Now, as for where you come in…”

The chief produced another slip of paper.

“I have received a report that Noboru’s wife has been determined to be infertile, following the birth of Noboru’s daughter. Of course, this means he has no heir. And so, he plans to take concubines from among the noble houses within his territory. Considering Noboru’s normally airtight security… This is the perfect opportunity.”

Shingen could not help but grin beneath his face covering as he realized the implication. He was a shinobi of great skill, though the majority of the skills he wielded were far from unique, and he knew the Moritoki clan was host to plenty of individuals who matched or exceeded him in that regard. However, there was one aspect in which he could not be outdone, one he took great pleasure in.

He was a master of disguise.

The chief held the papers to one of the nearby candles, causing them to burn away to ash.

“I see I have piqued your interest. Of course, there are those within the clan who could accomplish this task. But, consider this a test of your ability. Should you succeed, I may consider welcoming you into the clan… Formally.”

And if I fail, you lose nothing. Shingen thought to himself.

“Of course, our reputation is at stake.” The chief continued as if Shingen had spoken aloud. “If you fail… I will have to take measures to maintain that reputation.”

The chief shifted in his seat, fixing Shingen within his icy gaze. “Am I understood?”

Shingen shivered once more. For his own pride, he tried to convince himself it was from excitement for the task ahead.

“...Yes. It will be done, kashira.”

——————

Lord Kenzo Noboru straightened out his kamishimo and stepped through a doorway, held open by a servant. He made his way over to a lavish cushion at the head of the large room, flanked by guards on both sides, and took a seat. Akio stepped up beside him and spoke softly into his ear.

“We have gathered four suitable candidates, my Lord. I have no doubts you’ll be pleased with the selection…”

Noboru waved a hand dismissively. “Bah. Send them in.”

Akio nodded and shuffled away. After a few minutes, the doors opposite Noboru slid open, and the room was flooded by guards, attendants, and handmaidens escorting four women. It was clear at a glance that Akio had spoken the truth, and despite his sour demeanor Noboru couldn’t help but be impressed by the beauty of the individuals before him. They spread throughout the room, stopping evenly spaced across its center. Akio stepped forward, and gestured to the woman to the rightmost of Noboru.

“Hisamatsu Miki. Second daughter of Lord Hisamatsu Saitou of the Hisamatsu Clan. Possessing a keen wit, Lord Saitou has spoken highly of her advice when it comes to managing his territory.”

Miki bowed politely. “You are much too kind.”

She was the oldest of the four, looking to be around thirty. She had sharp features and striking eyes that created a sly look as a smile flitted across her face. Her kimono was multi-layered, with long sleeves and brilliant orange coloring. Her jet-black hair was fanned out into points at the side, and her high bun had several long hair pins through it, each with a red ornament. She took a seat, her movements dignified and refined.

Akio moved his hand to the next woman. “Anayama Haruka, third daughter of Lord Anayama Akimoto of the Akimoto Clan. Many can attest to her kindness and diligence. I must admit, getting Lord Akimoto to part with his youngest was no easy task!”

“Haha!” Haruka bubbled. “Father’s always been such a worrier!”

True to Akio’s introduction, Haruka was the youngest of the four women, barely past twenty. She was also the shortest of them. Her soft, round features, large eyes, and her curved hairstyle gave the impression of a small, cute animal. Various ribbons and flower-like ornaments adorned her slightly brown hair, and her puffy beige and gold ensemble completed the look. Her eyes sparkled as a warm grin spread across her face before she sat down.

Akio continued on. “Katsura Chizu, sole daughter of Katsura Hijiki, of the Katsura Clan.”

“Hijiki? I am not familiar.” Noboru inquired.

“A merchant.” Akio nodded. “Though he himself mostly keeps to the shadows, he has amassed incredible influence in multiple economic spheres, most recently textiles. He reached out to us and offered his daughter as a sign of goodwill. I thought it was a good idea, given the times...”

“Hrrumph.” Noboru mumbled disapprovingly. He had specifically requested the daughters of noble houses. Akio cleared his throat nervously.

Chizu spoke, breaking the silence. “My father’s business fashioned this kimono just recently. I hope it suits your tastes, my Lord.”

Her outfit was the least extravagant in terms of form, with relatively short sleeves and straightforward layering, though it was also by far the most eye-catching in terms of pattering, with vibrant crimsons and abundant flower imagery. Her hair was done with high, sloping sides that came to points near her chin, and unlike the other women her hair was in a ponytail rather than a bun, though it featured similar hairpins and ribbons. Her face was relatively average, though undeniably beautiful in spite, or perhaps because, of it. She took her seat.

Akio cleared his throat, recovering his pride. “Ahem. And finally, we have Iwashito Emiko, first daughter of Lord Iwashito Wada of the Iwashido Clan. As I’m sure you’re well aware, Lord Wada is an acclaimed samurai, whose many victories have earned him quite an impressive fief. His territory neighbors ours.”

“Th… Thank you for having me!” Emiko bowed deeply.

She was the tallest of the women, though her presence was somewhat lacking. She was a wispy-looking woman, lean and pale, with long features and downturned eyes. Her kimono was of high quality, composed of multiple blues and purples layered and interwoven with each other. Her hair was rounded like Haruka’s, though she sported a comb and a bamboo stick rather than the more flashy ornaments. She quickly took her seat while keeping her head lowered.

Akio turned to Noboru. “These are the four candidates that have been carefully selected from among those eligible. If it pleases you, my Lord, your selection…?”

Noboru carefully cast his gaze over the four women. He hated to admit it, but Akio had outdone himself this time. All four of the candidates were strong contenders. Miki was the most personally appealing, closest in age to his wife, and someone who seemed most able to hold a conversation. Though there was a sharpness to her that unsettled him. Haruka was an outlier in that she seemed genuinely happy to be there, and Noboru couldn’t help but feel drawn to that positivity. She seemed naïve, however, and Lord Anayama was soft, not a particularly stalwart ally. Chizu was the biggest enigma, and Noboru was loath to acknowledge the power of the rising merchant class. He would have to sooner or later, though, and Chizu was right in his strike zone. Emiko was somewhat disappointing, her meek attitude hardly indicative of her Clan’s history, but it was that very same history that made her so appealing. If Noboru could guarantee the aid of Lord Iwashita’s military prowess, an ascent to Shogun might no longer be just a pipe dream…

Noboru shook his head, reminding himself of why they were there in the first place. To ensure his legacy, he needed an heir. He couldn’t afford to be picky. He stood and raised a hand.

“I am exceedingly pleased with these candidates. As such, I hereby accept all four as concubines, to become members of the Kenzo Clan henceforth.”

An excited murmur passed though the various attendants gathered in the room, and Akio sighed. The four women bowed in turn.

“You are all now a part of this household, and may treat it as such.” Noboru continued. “Rooms have been prepared for all of you. Rest from your journeys, and familiarize yourselves with the grounds. Come tomorrow’s dawn, I will call upon you.”

With Noboru’s final declaration, the four women stood and were escorted from the room. Noboru stood and waited as the excited buzzing of the wait staff gradually diminished beyond the doors and down the halls. As silence took that space, he sat down with a heavy sigh.

“Akio.”

“Yes, my Lord?”

“Look forward to your next bonus.”

——————

As the crowd of attendants led the candidates to their rooms, the composed look on Miki’s face disappeared, replaced by a scowl.

“Hmph. What an abhorrent man…”

“Oh?” Chizu stepped up to Miki’s side and leaned in. “Such harsh words… Surely, you don’t mean to disparage our Lord’s generosity?”

“Hah! It is clear what Lord Kenzo is after. He’s as open as a book. Much too easy to read.”

“Careful, dear.” Chizu gave a playful smirk. “You’ll give yourself wrinkles.”

“...Why, you-”

“Stop fighting!” Haruka approached from behind and pushed her way in between Miki and Chizu. “Miki, such a sour expression is unbecoming of you. And Chizu, your teasing is unwarranted. Please, let us get along.”

“Hmph.” Miki shot Haruka with a sidelong glare. “I have no intention of ‘getting along’ with any of you.”

Haruka puffed out her cheeks “But why?” She reached her hands forward and linked arms with both Miki and Chizu, pulling the trio into close proximity. “We’re all in this together, right? Personally, I would like to get to know you all better…”

Miki snorted and pulled away from Haruka, quickening her pace. “Such frivolity has no place on a battlefield.”

“B… Battlefield?”

The trio started in surprise, then turned to glance at Emiko, who had appeared just behind Haruka. “W… Why would this be a battlefield?”

“Hmph. If you can’t even understand that… You stand no chance, regardless.”

Miki quickened her pace even further and called to her attendants, separating herself from the other women.

“Well, she’s certainly no fun.” Chizu mused.

“I still don’t get it…” Emiko sighed. “I mean, I’m not particularly thrilled about this whole situation… But what’s got Miki so bothered?”

“Hm.” Haruka thought to herself for a moment, absent-mindedly linking her now empty arm with Emiko’s. “I believe… She’s referring to succession?”

“Indeed.” Chizu nodded. “To take concubines… It stands to reason that Lord Kenzo is after an heir, and relatively soon… To ensure a son, he likely plans to father a child with each of us.”

“But how is that a battle?” Emiko shuffled awkwardly, having to stoop slightly while in Haruka’s grasp. “Personally, I’m not that fervent…”

“Well, what if there are multiple sons?” Chizu continued. “In that case, the heir most likely to succeed Lord Kenzo would be the eldest son… And so, whomever our Lord chooses to bed first…”

“Ahhh!” Haruka exclaimed. “Then they would have a higher chance of being the mother of the next daimyo! That’s an attractive position to be in!”

“Exactly.”

Emiko groaned. “That does make a lot of sense… I’m starting to feel sick… Again…”

The procession took a corner and slowed to a stop, having arrived at the women’s quarters. The staff began to split up the group, directing each of the four concubines and their entourages to their chambers. Haruka relinquished her grip on Chizu and Emiko, and one by one each was left to their own devices.

——————

Shingen sat alone in his chamber, having dismissed all his servants to attend to various tasks, with strict orders to allow their charge time to rest. He sat in silence, breathing peacefully, daring not to make any unusual movements until he was sure there were no prying eyes or ears. No one like him, hiding in the shadows.

Because, of course, he was not Shingen at the moment.

He hefted an intricate hand mirror, and couldn’t help but let loose a wicked grin as he looked at the face reflected upon the circular surface.

The face of Iwashita Emiko.

The real Emiko had been bedridden with illness. Lord Iwashita was an acclaimed warrior, of that there could be no doubt, but as Shingen had learned, a large portion of his successes were aided by the Moritoki Clan from the shadows. As such, he owed them quite a large debt, and was well aware of their prowess. So, it was easy for the clan to convince him to let them care for his daughter. Then “Emiko” made a miraculous recovery, just as Noboru began his search for concubine candidates. Lord Iwashita leapt at the opportunity, since it seemed too good to be true. Of course, it was. The real Emiko was still with the Moritoki Clan.

Shigen’s grin widened as he recalled the details. Seeing the reflection of the normally bashful woman with such an unusual expression excited Shingen, though he did not revel in it for too long. He was beginning to form a plan, and needed to ensure his success.

He set down the mirror and began to massage his false visage. He started gentle, making small circles with his fingertips, but gradually became rougher and rougher. Eventually, he could feel the thin veneer separate from his true face, the starchy adhesive that allowed the material to mirror his expression coming undone. The attractive face of Iwashita Emiko bunched and sagged, losing its shape.

Shingen moved his hands downward, eventually reaching under his chin. He grasped at the edge of the mask, hooking his thumbs under the flap. With a fluid motion he stretched the material down and out, peeling Emiko’s face off of his, hair and all. He shook his head slightly and swung the mask around, then propped it up on his hand. He took a moment to appreciate the flaccid facsimile, musing over how all of the attendants and the other candidates hadn’t even given him a second glance, utterly fooled by the disguise.

With the motions of an expert, Shingen began to re-apply adhesive to his face, creating a fresh coating to last him the rest of the evening. As he did, his mind drifted towards the other women. Miki was the most difficult obstacle, as she was the most dedicated to bedding Noboru. Shingen would have to move quickly to ensure his plan worked. Chizu was also a concern, as she was mostly an unknown. Thankfully, she seemed to be somewhat straightforward, with a playful streak that could be utilized. Haruka was the least threatening, and in fact, if Shingen’s suspicion about her was correct, she would prove to be a great asset.

With that, Shingen lifted the mask of Emiko, placing the scalp of the mask over his own. He pulled the false face down, stretching it under his chin. With the edges in place, he ran his fingers across the still-loose material, pressing and moulding the feminine contours into place. His eyes fluttered open, and he lifted the hand mirror to double-check his work. Once again, the view shown to him was undeniably Iwashita Emiko.

Satisfied, Shingen stood and cleared his throat, then called out his attendants in Emiko’s voice.

It was time to set things in motion.

——————

“Lady Katsura?”

“Yes, what is it?” Chizu turned to the handmaiden, looking back from the small table she had been working at.

“Lady Anayama and Lady Iwashita are outside. They wish to have a word with you.”

“Oh?” Chizu stood. “Very well then.”

Chizu slid the door to her chambers open, revealing the hall beyond. Haruka and Emiko stood just beyond the threshold, flanked by a number of attendants. Haruka turned and beamed at Chizu, bouncing slightly in an excited manner. Emiko was behind her, almost as if trying to use the smaller woman to hide, though she too wore a smile.

“Chizu!” Haruka chirped. “Come with us to the baths!”

“Hm? A bit early, is it not?”

“You remember what Lord Kenzo said, correct? What better way to ease our travel fatigues than a nice soak? Plus…” Haruka grinned and looked back at Emiko. “Emiko here suggested it!”

“Really?” Chizu shifted her gaze. “I didn’t think you the type to be so bold.”

“W-well…” Emiko wrung her hands bashfully. “I didn’t want to disturb Lady Kenzo on our first night here, so I asked when she usually bathes… Turns out she goes fairly late, so I figured it would be best to go now…”

“And she was nice enough to tell me about it!” Haruka puffed out her chest, seemingly proud of having extended the invitation. “So c’mon!”

Chizu couldn’t help but giggle. “...Very well. I graciously accept your proposal. Give me just a moment to prepare.”

——————

The bath chamber of Noboru’s estate was large and spacious, an extremely clear sign of his vast influence and wealth. It featured a washing area, shallow pools, and deep pools, all with a heavy layer of steam. A large mural adorned the wall. Haruka practically ran into the room, her loose kimono flapping behind her, nearly falling off. She stopped in the center and spread her arms out, eyes sparkling.

“Woooaaaah! This is great!”

“It is quite impressive.”

Chizu looked around as she stepped up to the threshold between the changing area and the baths proper. She held her kimono closed with one hand, placing the last of her other garments in a nearby bin with the other. Emiko stood farther back, sheepishly holding both arms across her chest.

Haruka skipped back over, and the three women doffed their kimonos. It was an impressive sight, as without their tight outfits, their figures were put on full display. Chizu had above-average curves. Haruka was a bit more rounded, with a healthy radiance, and her ample chest was nearly as large as Emiko’s despite the height difference. Emiko in turn was the most lean, with a bit more muscle definition. As they moved to the washing area, their chattering was interrupted by an annoyed voice.

“Tch. Must you be so noisy?”

Miki emerged from the veil of steam, deep disdain on her face. She carried herself with the utmost grace even in the buff, and as she came to a stop and placed a hand on her hip, it was clear that her confidence was well warranted. Her figure was even more voluptuous than Chizu’s, while still maintaining a firmness that accentuated her assets.

While Haruka and Emiko stared in stunned silence, Chizu cleared her throat. “Apologies. We did not expect the baths to already be occupied.”

“Hmph. Well, know I enjoy my baths early in the evening, and I enjoy them as private affairs. It will do you all well to remember that.”

Without another word, Miki stuck up her nose and strode past, quickly drying herself and preparing to get dressed. The other three women shared incredulous glances and moved further in, using the provided towels and buckets of hot water in silence. Some time after Miki had fully left the bath, Haruka approached Emiko, a twinkle in her eye.

“Would you like help washing your back, Emiko?”

“Oh! Um… Actually, my arms are long enough… I’ve already gotten it a bit.” Emiko wrung her hands apologetically.

“Hmph…” Haruka puffed out her cheeks.

“Ah… You and Chizu could help each other?”

Chizu gave Emiko a brief side eye, then shrugged. “I don’t mind.”

Haruka seemed to hesitate for a moment, but still turned and walked over. “Sure!” She chirped.

As the two women exchanged pleasantries, Emiko watched with a sharp eye.

——————

“Ahhh…” Emiko sighed as she slipped into the deeper of the pools, submerging herself up to her shoulders. “That hits the sp-”

“Wooo!” Haruka jumped in beside Emiko, splashing her in the process.

As Emiko sputtered, Chizu chuckled and entered as well. “My my… Such exuberance. Though I teased Miki for it earlier, you certainly could stand to take your station more seriously, Haruka.”

“...Hmph” Haruka pouted.

“I must admit, though,” Emiko spoke up, “I am somewhat jealous of how you can be so… Happy. Why is that?”

“Hmmm…” Haruka turned and laid back in the water, kicking her legs slightly as she contemplated the ceiling. “Lord Kenzo was right. It was difficult to convince Father to let me come. He’s always been so overprotective… I understand that I am here to cater to Lord Kenzo, and I intend to perform dutifully, but… There is still a freedom here that I would not have at home. I enjoy being more than just my Father’s little princess.”

A mischievous look flashed across Emiko’s face, and she quietly moved through the water towards Haruka. With a swift motion, Emiko put her arms underneath Haruka’s back and lifted her from the water, eliciting a surprised yelp.

“Then… How about you be our ‘little princess’ instead?” Emiko giggled.

“My…!” Haruka gasped, and put a hand to Emiko’s bicep. “So strong! Though I suppose that’s not so strange for the daughter of a samurai…”

“Ha!. Well…” Emiko huffed, then put Haruka back into the water just as quickly. “I’ve actually been… Rather sickly since I was young… Phew…”

Chizu chuckled, then stood from the pool. “Well, I suppose I am glad to see you both enjoying yourselves. I’ll be excusing myself first, I have some business to finish up.”

“Awww…” Haruka pouted. “Already?”

“Yeah… It’d be nice if we could get a bit closer tonight…” Emiko continued.

Chizu looked back, a wry smile on her lips. “Perhaps tomorrow…”

With a wave, Chizu sauntered out of the bathing area, dried and dressed herself, then vanished out the door. After a few moments of silence. Haruka cast an inquisitive glance at Emiko.

“‘Our?’”

“Huh?”

“Earlier, you said ‘our little princess…’ Who were you referring to exactly?” Haruka moved towards Emiko, putting the taller woman between herself and the wall of the room.

“That’s…” Emiko stuttered nervously.

“That’s not all. You’ve been pretty… Forward all night. What’s going on?”

Emiko’s eyes darted around, searching for escape from her petite interrogator, but finding none. Finally, she shut her eyes tight, and turned away, as if ashamed. “Earlier you said you wanted to get to know us better… And you kept being so clingy… I figured you’d want to… Y’know… So I was trying to give you an opportunity to be with Chizu…”

Haruka blinked. Then, after a beat, she barked out a laugh. “Hah! To think you’d see through me like that!”

Haruka drew closer, an impish expression on her face. “Lord Kenzo is an attractive man… With rather enticing influence. But if I’m being honest, I was much more excited to see the other candidates… Perhaps cut loose a little… Maybe share Lord Kenzo’s harem… So you’re right about me wanting to be with Chizu. But you’ve overlooked one thing.”

Haruka went up onto her tip-toes and reached up her arms, wrapping them around Emiko’s neck. Emiko’s eyes opened, then widened in surprise as she was pulled into a kiss.

Emiko slowly raised her hands and placed them on Haruka’s shoulders, then leaned into the kiss, letting Haruka ease back down off of her tip-toes. They remained there for some time, lips pressed together. They eventually broke away from each other, panting and staring into the respective eyes of their partner. Haruka grinned and broke the silence.

“You’re so cute…”

She pushed forward, pressing Emiko up against the wall. As her face was out of reach, Haruka instead kissed the base of Emiko’s neck, then trailed downward to her breast. Haruka’s mouth clamped around Emiko’s nipple, eliciting a gasp of pleasure. Haruka raised a hand to Emiko’s other breast and began massaging it. Emiko’s arms wrapped further around Haruka’s shoulders, pulling her tight.

“Ahh… Hah! Haruka… Ah!”

“Hmhm!” Haruka pulled back, replacing her mouth with her other hand to grope Emiko’s bosom. “The cutest…”

Haruka’s first arm dropped, and her hand slid down Emiko’s abdomen. Haruka’s fingers drifted around Emiko’s crotch, and her panting increased in intensity.

“...Please…” She gasped. “...Take me…”

Haruka obliged, and slipped a finger into Emiko’s vagina.

“AAH!” Emiko moaned.

Then, she tipped forward, putting her full weight onto Haruka. She staggered back, bracing her partner.

“Woah! It was that good, huh? …Emiko?”

Emiko didn’t respond, instead trying to stand, but failing and falling onto Haruka again.

“Hey!” Haruko pulled her hands back, taking hold of Emiko’s shoulders. “Emiko! What’s wrong?”

“I… I’m sorry… I think… The heat’s getting to me…” Emiko trailed off, coughing.

“Ah! No no no, I’m sorry! You said you had a weak constitution… Here!”

Haruka maneuvered to Emiko’s side and helped her out of the water. They half-walked, half-stumbled together over to the entrance. Emiko took a seat, catching her breath. Haruka knelt down next to her, concern on her face.

“Are you alright? Is there anything I can do to help?”

“I’ll be fine… Thank you… I’ll see if there’s a doctor here before retiring… Get some medicine…” She coughed again.

Haruka looked up, on the verge of tears, and took hold of Emiko’s hand. “I’m so sorry… I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s alright, really…” Emiko put a reassuring hand on Haruka’s head, and gently stroked her hair. “...I’m happy, truly. About how you feel about me… Help me get dressed, and we’ll talk in the morning. Alright?”

Haruka sniffed, then nodded her head. She stood, wiped her eyes, and gave a weak smile. “...Alright. It’s a promise.”

——————

Shingen stepped up to a sliding door, a pair of attendants trailing behind. Of course, they were more of Iwashita Emiko’s attendants than his. He just so happened to be borrowing her identity.

He had to suppress a smile to maintain the pained facade. It was just as he had expected. Haruka was into women, and while he hadn’t quite anticipated her sudden advances, it worked in his favor. She was kind to a fault, and that would prove very useful. Moreover, there was already a doctor on the premises. He would be able to advance the next part of his plan sooner than anticipated.

Shingen raised a hand, but paused. A pair of masculine voices conversed within the room, muffled through the wall. Taking the opportunity, he turned to the attendants, and spoke with Emiko’s voice.

“Please wait out here.”

They bowed in response. Shingen turned back to the door, and with uncanny silence, opened it and slipped inside. He immediately pressed against the closed door, practically vanishing into the shadows. The conversation continued uninterrupted, the two men unaware of their new listener.

“-ure this will work?”

“Akio. Please. I’ve been a doctor for decades.”

“I don’t feel much better…”

“Well, it’ll help you sleep at least. You’re under an extreme amount of stress, it appears. There is only so much I can do if you are not actually ill. Was organizing those concubines that bad?”

Akio sighed, a long, weighty sigh. “Not particularly, though it was not easy. It’s just that… In addition to that, Lord Kenzo has entrusted me with… Something else of great import.”

“Oh?”

“I cannot say, apologies. I fear I have already said too much.”

“Hm. Very well. I would much more continue talking about beautiful women. Which one would you have chosen for yourself?”

“...Daichi, you dog.”

“Hah! Humor me.”

“Hmh. Well… if I had to choose… I’d say Lady Katsura.”

“The merchant’s daughter? Why’s that?”

“I admire her business acumen. She…”

Shingen had heard enough. This time, he allowed himself a wicked grin in the darkness. In that brief minute, he had gathered nearly all the information he needed. If the rest of the night went well, his plan would be complete upon the next day’s dusk. He regained his composure and stepped back, opened the door a crack, then closed it with enough force to be audible. He stepped into the low light, coughing in the high tone befitting his current form.

“Um… Excuse me… Doctor?”

The two men in the room looked at Shingen with surprise, quickly stopping their clandestine discussion. “Lady Iwashita!” Akio exclaimed. “What is the matter?”

“I… Um… Stayed in the bath too long… I fear I’ve overexerted myself, so soon after recovering from my illness…I was hoping to get some medicine… For fever and cough…”

“Of course, my Lady. Right away!” Daichi bowed.

He turned to his medicine box. He rooted through it for a moment, then produced a number of different herbs. He stepped over to where his tools were laid out, and quickly blended them into a fine power. He poured the power onto a slip of paper, folded it, and lifted it towards Shingen.

“Here you are. Mix this into a cup of hot water and drink it before sleeping.”

“Thank you…”

Shingen stepped forward. As he went, he suddenly tipped to the side, faking a stumble. He bumped up against the table next to Daichi’s medicine box. His hands shot up, quickly grabbing a certain herb from the collection before hiding it in the sleeve of Emiko’s kimono and placing his hands on the table to steady himself.

“Ah… I’m so sorry!” Shingen stammered out. He quickly gauged the reactions of the other men. As best he could tell, neither had caught his sleight of hand.

“It's quite alright!” Daichi stepped forward, handing over the medicine. “It is fine, dear. Please, get some rest soon. If your symptoms persist in the morning, please let me know right away.”

“Thank you, doctor.” Shingen smiled weakly, using Emiko’s charm to full effect. “I’ll be sure to keep you informed.”

——————

Shingen sat in Emiko’s room once more, the space dark in the evening light. He held the mask of Emiko in his hand, having just removed the false visage. There was one more piece of preparation that had to be done before his plan could fully be put into motion. He set the mask down, and let his kimono fall to the floor next to it. With his own head atop the body of Emiko, he moved over to one of the large chests which held her luggage. He removed the contents, as well as the false bottom that concealed a number of tools and other supplies.

Brimming with excitement, he extracted five bundles, three small and two large. He carried the bundles to the center of the room, unwrapped them, and laid them out one by one. Each of the three small bundles were more masks, while the larger bundles were full suits. Looking at the empty husks of skin, it looked like a human had molted.

One of the masks was finely crafted, bearing the visage of an attractive but exceedingly generic woman, not modeled after anyone in particular. It would prove useful when needing a quick disguise, but not for much else.

Unlike the first mask and the disguise Shingen currently wore, however, the other masks and the suits before him had no detail. They were blank slates, yet to be moulded into an identity. A shiver ran through Shingen’s body as he prepared for the long task ahead of him. Thanks to the run-in with Miki in the baths, He had gathered everything he needed. It was time to create his next masterpieces.

“What is the meaning of this?”

Noboru stood in the doorway of Emiko’s room, barred entry by a pair of distressed handmaidens. Beyond them, various attendants scurried about, surrounding and obscuring the bed upon which Emiko lay. Through the bustle, Noboru spotted the back of a familiar head. With a growl, he pushed past the handmaidens.

“Daichi! What’s going on?”

The old doctor jumped at the sound of Noboru’s voice, and turned to face the lord with sweat on his brow.

“Ah… My Lord. Unfortunately… Lady Iwashita’s illness has resurfaced.”

He gestured to Emiko, who was breathing heavily, sweat accumulating on her brow despite a cold pack resting on her forehead . She tossed and turned, and a soft groan escaped her lips.

Noboru’s expression darkened, and concern flashed across his face. “Can you cure her?”

“Well, for this particular ailment, spikenard root is the most effective… But…”

“But?” Noboru leaned forward, menacingly.

Daichi swallowed. “Er… My stock of it seems to have gone missing… And they are quite rare.”

Noboru’s face went red. “It doesn't matter! Send someone to fetch some!” He roared.

“Y-yes, my Lord!” Daichi yelped.

“P… Please, don’t be angry… With him.” Emiko’s faint voice cut through the hubbub. “I just… Need some rest.”

Noboru turned and raised a hand reassuringly. “Your wellbeing is of the utmost concern.”

Emiko coughed and sat up, waving away Daichi’s attempts to get her to lay back down. “Thank you… My Lord. I am sorry… For worrying you so. Please… I will be fine.”

Noboru crossed his arms. “That’s-”

“Emiko!” Haruka suddenly burst through the door, frantically running to Emiko’s side. “Oh, Emiko! I… I heard… I was scared that…”

“Haruka…”

“Hm.” Noboru cleared his throat. Haruka jumped slightly at the noise, having just noticed the imposing man. She quickly bowed to him, and Noboru nodded to her in turn. He looked back at Emiko. “It seems you are well cared for. I will take my leave. Daichi, keep me informed.”

“Yes, my Lord…”

Noboru turned and took his leave. As he vanished out the door, Emiko raised a hand. “Please… Everyone. It has become quite noisy… I would like to try and rest… You are all dismissed until further notice…”

Daichi sputtered. “Lady Iwashita, I cannot-”

Emiko cut him off. “I would like a word alone with Lady Anayama. Afterwards… I’ll have an attendant see to my needs… And fetch you if need be… This is the women’s quarters, after all… Alright?”

Daichi struggled for a moment, then sighed. “...Very well.”

With a murmur, the room began to empty, until only Haruka remained at Emiko’s side. As soon as just the two of them were left, Haruka burst into tears and buried her face in the sheets.

“I’m… I’m sorry…” She sobbed. “It’s my fault… If only I hadn’t…”

“Stop that!” Emiko scolded. She took Haruka and lifted her head. “This is not your fault. It would have happened, eventually, anyway. Please do not cry.”

“Will you… Will you be alright?”

Emiko smiled weakly. “Yes… Though from experience… It may get worse before it gets better. I… Don’t know when I’ll be well again… And depending on what happens… My memories may be hazy.” She took Haruka’s hand and squeezed it tightly. “But no matter what, I will return to my duties. I’ll return to Lord Kenzo… And I’ll return to you.”

Haruka sniffed. “You promise?”

Emiko chuckled, then coughed. “...Ahem. I promise.”

“Alright…”

“Promise me one thing in return.”

“Oh?”

Emiko grinned weakly. “See if you can’t get Chizu out of her shell today. So when I’m well… We can all have fun together. Okay?”

Haruka thought for a moment, then nodded. “Okay.”

“Great.” Emiko coughed again, then laid back down. “You should go now… I’m… Feeling faint, though. Send in Yuna, one of my attendants… Please.”

Haruka nodded, and squeezed Emiko’s hand back. “I will. Rest well.”

With a final look, Haruka turned and quickly departed. Not long after, Yuna the attendant arrived. She was barely older than Emiko, with high cheekbones and soft eyes.

“How are you feeling, my lady?”

“Not particularly well… My throat is quite dry. Could you, perhaps…Prepare some tea?”

“Very well.”

Once the tea was prepared, Emiko sat up and took the cup that was poured for her, holding her hand over it and lifting it by the top. She moved to take a sip, but stopped.

“Something the matter, my Lady?”

“I worry it is… Too hot. Would you test it for me?”

“Very well.” Yuna took the cup back, blew on it, then took a few short sips. She handed back the cup. “It is a bit hot.”

“Thank you. I will wait a bit then.”

“That sounds… Like…” Yuna’s word trailed off and she fell forward onto the bed.

Emiko regarded the unconscious woman for a moment before setting aside the drugged tea. A devilish grin spread across her face.

She stood from the bed and disrobed, placing her garments on the bed behind her. She then took hold of Yuna and turned her around. Emiko quickly carefully stripped Yuna of her clothes, leaving her nude.

Emiko lifted a hand and removed her mask.

Shingen set the mask aside and lifted his arms behind his back. At the nape of his neck, where Emiko’s now separated face had met the rest of her skin, Shingen pulled at the newly revealed flap of false flesh. Pulling gently but firmly, he split the skin open. As he continued to pull, the veneer continued to spread apart until it reached just above his buttocks. He shifted his grip, taking hold of a shoulder. He yanked it down his arm, peeling the pale skin away until it hung limp, inside-out. He repeated the process with the other arm, then pulled away the chestplate, letting Eiko’s sizable mounds do most of the work for him. He took the bottom edge of the opening and shimmied the material down his legs until it was a pile on the floor. He fully stepped out of the skin, wearing nothing but a padded girdle around his hips and a constrictive bamboo corset. He set about turning the skin back right side out.

Shingen turned to Yuna, her chest rising and falling with slightly labored breathing. The drug he administered would gradually mimic the symptoms he had been faking earlier, and keep her unconscious for at least a full day. Regardless, he was exceedingly gentle as he maneuvered her form, brushing starchy adhesive all across her body. He then hefted the now empty skin of Emiko and set Yuna into it, pulling the suit over her limbs and torso before pressing it in place and sealing up the back. He grabbed the Emiko mask and pulled it over Yuna's face. After a few quick adjustments, the woman before Shingen was no longer Yuna, but Iwashita Emiko. He dressed her, then tucked her into the bed.

Next, Shingen returned to the chest and produced a second skin and mask, two of the works he had completed overnight. No longer featureless, they were now copies of Yuna’s form. There were some liberties taken with the suit, but the mask was utterly perfect.

Shingen applied adhesive to himself, then stepped into the suit. The first leg of the suit gradually straightened as Shingen filled it with his mass, then the second. He aligned the crotch, making sure the false outer folds connected properly with the simulated rubber vagina situated between his legs. He hefted the suit’s torso and pushed one arm in, flexing his new fingers, then the other. He pressed the seam on his back together from the bottom up. Finally, he took the Yuna mask and slipped it over his head, and the transformation was complete.

Shingen was now the attendant known as Yuna.

——————

A large crowd of attendants gathered to watch as the Iwashita Clan’s palanquin was loaded with supplies. As Emiko’s condition had worsened, her closet attendants had convinced Noboru to allow her to be sent away to meet with representatives from the Iwashita Clan halfway to obtain the rare medicine, rather than wait for it at the Kenzo Estate. Noboru himself watched on with frustration and concern.

A ways away, Haruka stared at the palanquin that Emiko rode in, hands clasped in front of her.

“Lady Anayama?”

Haruka turned to face the approaching woman, quickly composing herself. “Hm? Oh… You’re… Yuna, correct?”

“Correct.” Yuna gave a cordial bow. “Before falling unconscious, my Lady conveyed to me a message for you.”

“She did?”

“Indeed, though I am not entirely sure of its meaning.” Yuna stood back up. “She wanted to let you know not to concern yourself too much… And to make sure you kept your promise.”

Haruka started for a moment, then nodded. “Very well, thank you.” She tore her gaze away. “I will be off now. Give Emi… Lady Iwashita my regards.”

Haruka turned and disappeared through the crowd back into the estate. Yuna watched for a minute, then walked in a different direction. In a matter of seconds, she was lost among the throng of people, and found her way to a dark alcove away from prying eyes. With haste, she grasped her chin and swung her hands upwards, tearing the mask that was her face away. Shingen stowed the mask within the voluminous space within the kimono he sported, and took out the generic attendant mask. He slipped on the unassuming visage, then swiftly plucked the emblem of the Iwashita Clan from his sleeve and flipped it over, revealing the crest of the Kenzo Clan upon the opposite side. He took the briefest moment to ensure everything was in order, then ventured back through the crowd.

It was not long before Shingen caught sight of Haruka. He tailed her from a distance, keeping to inconspicuous corners and alcoves. He smiled slightly as Haruka’s path became clear. She truly was kind to a fault. She came to a stop in front of the door to Chizu’s chamber. After some time conversing with the attendants, she was let inside. Shingen idled for a while. Eventually, the doors opened again, and a crowd of attendants exited the chamber, gossiping amongst themselves. After another short wait, Shingen strolled past the chamber, and listened closely at the door.

The sounds of faint moans of pleasure sounded from within. Haruka had performed her role perfectly. Shingen grinned. He could be confident that they would both be occupied for some time, and in no state to interfere afterwards.

Time for the next step.

——————

Akio sat at his desk, hand on his forehead, staring in frustration at the work in front of him. With Emiko’s illness, he had suddenly found himself with more clerical work than usual.

A servant poked their head through the doorway. “Sir?”

“What is it?” Akio huffed. “I’m busy.”

“Lady Katsura is here. She has asked to speak with you… Privately.”

Akio sat straight up. Excitement and confusion grasped his heart for a moment before reason managed to take hold. He responded calmly. “Very well. Let her in.”

The servant nodded and retreated. A few moments later, Katsura Chizu rounded the corner and closed the door behind her, turning to face Akio. She was dressed up, fully ornamented. Akio in turn put forth the best presentation he could manage, sitting with perfect posture.

“To what do I owe the pleasure, Lady Katsura?”

“Please.” Chizu smiled, a sly look. “Call me Chizu.”

“Er… Very well. What can I do for you… Chizu.”

She sauntered forward and looked down at the papers on Akio’s desk. “You seem a tad overwhelmed. I’ve been involved in my father’s business enough to know when something is unsustainable. I thought that I would offer you my services.”

Akio cleared his throat. “That won’t, er, be necessary. This is my job. And not something someone of your status should concern yourself with.”

Chizu held Akio’s gaze, then shrugged. “Very well. At the very least let me fetch you some tea.”

“...If you insist.”

Chizu gave a warm smile, then pushed away from the desk and sauntered away. Akio tried to focus back on his work as the woman in front of him swayed her hips back and forth. Eventually, she vanished from view. She returned, soon, however, with a steaming cup of tea. She walked back up to Akio’s desk. But rather than simply hand the cup to Akio, she lifted herself onto the wood and sat upon it. Akio’s eyes widened as she leaned toward him and he realized her kimono was slightly loose.

“Here you are. Please, drink while it's still hot.”

“Ahem. Thank you.” Akio tore his eyes away and took the cup, quickly downing its contents, barely noticing the heat. “Hm. Then if that will be all…”

“Are you really sure I can’t help you with anything? If not with your work, then perhaps… With something else?” Chizu leaned in farther, propping herself up on the table such that her upper arms pushed her breasts forward provocatively.

“Wha- What do you…” Akio sputtered, utterly taken aback. “You couldn’t possibly… No. You are Lord Kenzo’s concubine… I couldn’t…”

“Couldn’t what?”

“Couldn’t…” Akio blinked, as if suddenly unsure of himself. “Couldn’t engage… In sexual acts…”

Chizu grinned as Akio’s filter broke down. “Oh my… Is that what you thought I meant? How naughty! Although…” She pulled back and slid off the desk.

“Al-although?” Akio lifted a hand, half-reaching towards Chizu.

She turned and caught his eyes, a seductive look locking him in place. “You’ve been working sooo hard for Lord Kenzo… Surely you deserve a reward for your efforts…” She stepped around the desk, pressing her knees against the chair Akio was sitting in. She leaned in, but quickly pulled back, as if reconsidering. “But… I’m not sure arranging the candidates could’ve really been all that difficult… ”

“That’s not it…!” Akio started, desperate to correct Chizu, but stopped himself. He furrowed his brow in confusion. “No… That’s… I can’t say that…”

“Oh? Is there something else you’ve done for Lord Kenzo? Something… Secret?”

Akio’s head began to nod, and his speech began to slur. “I… Can’t…”

Chizu grasped the edge of her kimono and pulled, letting one of her shapely breasts spill out into full view, her nipple perky. Akio’s eyes nearly bugged out of their sockets.

“I’m just so curious… Won’t you tell me? Then you’ll really deserve the reward…”

“I… I…” Akio’s eyes began to glaze over as they ogled Chizu’s exposed tit. “But I can’t tell anyone… About where the ledger is…”

“Hmmm?” Chizu reached forward and caressed Akio’s cheek. “But I think you can. Tell me where it is, and you’ll get everything you want…” She lowered her other hand, gently wrapping it around Akio’s now very prominent bulge.

Akio nearly passed out. “Under floor panel… Secret room… Behind Lord Kenzo’s bed…!”

“Good boy.”

Chizu grasped Akio’s erect member and pumped. With a moan, Akio burst, his pants immediately darkening as they were stained from within. As the last of his load emptied, he promptly passed out, asleep.

“Hmph.”

Chizu released her grip. She rearranged Akio such that he seemed to have taken a nap at his desk. The truth serum would ensure his memories would be hazy. He would likely rationalize it as a dream out of shame.

Chizu fixed her outfit, then strode out of the office. Before long, she had found her way to an isolated alcove.

The Chizu mask became the fourth mask Shingen had removed that day.

It would not be the last.

——————

Lord Kenzo Noboru sat in his room early in the evening, reading over a report. He was in a foul mood yet again. With Emiko out of the picture for now, the chance of producing an heir had gone down. He was becoming increasingly anxious. He didn’t like it when things started going wrong. He was snapped from his ruminations by a sharp knock at his door.

“Come in.”

The door to the chamber slid open. Standing at the threshold was Hisamatsu Miki, dressed in more casual wear than when Noboru had last seen her. She bowed and entered the room, then closed the door behind her.

“My Lord.” She bowed again.

Noboru shifted in his seat and put a hand to his chin. “What is it? Feel free to speak your mind.”

“As you wish.” Miki nodded. Her expression shifted from serene to severe. “It is no secret why you have gathered concubines, my Lord. Why have you not called any of us to bed?”

Noboru raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the openness, even in light of his earlier permission. “It was originally my plan to do so tonight. But with Emiko’s sudden medical emergency, things have become… A bit intense. I did not think it was appropriate.”

Miki nodded in understanding. “Your concern for us is appreciated, my Lord. You truly have been a benevolent host. But… if I may be so bold, your concern is unwarranted.”

“Oh?”

Miki stood up straight, and unflinchingly met Noboru’s eye. “Emiko is obviously not eligible at the moment. Haruka is immature. Chizu is not of noble blood. Moreover, they seem more content cavorting with each other than doing their duty.”

“Hmph. And your point is?”

“Well. Truth be told, it does not necessarily matter what they are up to… Not tonight at least. Not while you still have an option for who to bed.”

Noboru stroked his chin, contemplating. Then, he barked out a laugh. He stood and gave Miki a challenging look. “You imply that I should bed you tonight?”

Miki steeled her resolve. “Yes. I believe myself to be the most fit among the candidates.”

“...Very well. Being honest, I preferred you the most.” Noboru stepped around his seat and made his way to his bed. He sat down on the edge and looked at Miki expectantly. “I have been feeling a bit pent-up recently. This is quite fortuitous.”

Without batting an eye, Miki stepped forward and up to Noboru. She leaned in and kissed him, drawing back with a sensual look. She slowly undid the various ties holding her intricate kimono in place, letting each aspect of her outfit fall away one by one. Noboru watched with increasingly hungry eyes as more and more of Miki’s pale skin was revealed, until finally she stood in the nude.

She stepped forward again and took Noboru’s hands in hers. She guided them upwards and placed them against her chest. Noboru immediately began to feel her up, rubbing her sizable breasts in circles with his large hands. She bit her lip, holding back a moan. After a moment she pushed Noboru down, laying him flat on his back on the bed. She climbed on top of him, straddling his muscular torso.

She began to grind back and forth, her moans growing louder and louder as she pressed her crotch against Noboru’s. His aroused grunts mixed in with Miki’s moans as his massive cock was slowly teased to its full height. As the impressive length poked Miki’s lower abdomen, she gasped in surprise.

“My Lord… You’re so big…”

Noboru chuckled, satisfied with himself. “Surely you can take it?”

“I… I certainly can!”

Miki slid back and began to tug at Noboru’s belt, getting it untied. Before long, Noboru’s shaft was free from its cloth confines and revealed in its full glory. Miki gulped, then propped herself up on her knee. She took hold of Noboru’s head, and he groaned as she caressed it with her slender figures. A bead of precum formed at the tip. With a somewhat wild expression, Miki guided Noboru’s penis into herself. She cried out as she was filled, her labia spread to their limits.

Noboru growled with feral abandon as his dick ground against Miki’s inner walls. He began to buck up and down, thrusting deeper and deeper into his partner. She started to bounce in turn, matching his rhythm and shaking the entire bed frame with the intensity of their copulation.

“AH! MY LORD!” Miki cried. “You’re… Filling me up! I… I think I’m… I’m-!”

Noboru grabbed Miki’s wrists and pulled as he gave one final thrust.

“CUMMING!”

Noboru ejaculated, furiously pumping his seed into the woman on top of him as she reached climax. With each pulsation, more and more thick white semen spilled out onto the sheets, unable to be fully contained.

After a beat of tension, the two lovers collapsed onto the soft cushions beneath them. They lay there panting, unable to even speak for several minutes. Miki was the first to regain her voice.

“Wow… I must admit, my Lord… You are more impressive than I had imagined…”

Noboru chuckled. “Of course. You weren’t too bad yourself. You are a very fine woman.”

Miki sat up, laughing slightly. “Why thank you. That was quite intense…”

“Indeed.”

“...Would you like some tea?”

——————

Shingen stood next to the bed, watching with amusement as Noboru’s snores shook the frame with nearly as much vigor as their sex had. The sleeping medicine he had spiked the tea with might not have even been necessary.

He smiled impishly with Miki’s stolen likeness, and absent-mindedly put a hand to his stomach. He had not lied when he had praised Noboru’s size. The length had nearly broken the artificial vagina hidden beneath the Miki suit. A shiver ran through Shingen as he ruminated on how Noboru had had absolutely no clue the hole he had plowed so thoroughly was actually a fabrication, despite having previous experience. That cock pushing ever-so-close to Shingen’s own throbbing member with the Lord none the wiser.

Shingen shook himself from his reminiscing and set about the task at hand.

He crept around the entirety of the room, testing each and every panel for a hidden opening or hollow space. Eventually, he came to the panel directly behind Noboru’s bed. With a heave, Shingen pried the board loose from the rest of the wall, revealing a second chamber just beyond, some sort of storage space.

The space was cramped and near-lightless, though even that was more than enough for Shingen to continue his search. Dropping low, he crawled along the ground, squishing his false chest to the floor as he searched for a loose floorboard. That soon too was found, and Shingen tore the wood away.

Inside was a simple lockbox, easy enough to pick. As the box swung open, Shingen’s heart leapt as he beheld the object held within. A stitched ledger, the object of his quest. He took the tome and tucked it under his arm. Within minutes, the box was closed, put back in its place, and sealed away behind the two pieces of wood, as if they had never been disturbed.

Shingen donned the clothes that Miki had worn, though with several alterations to the fold and alignment to make them much more humble. The ledger was tucked safely away, and Shingen opened the door.

He stepped out into the Kenzo Estate like a phantom, making no sound.

——————

At the northernmost gate of the Kenzo Estate, two guards stood watch. Their orders were clear: No one was to enter or leave unannounced. They kept to their vigil, eyes scanning the streets.

Their concentration was broken by footsteps coming from behind. One of the guards turned to see an approaching attendant.

“Halt. Where are you headed?” The guard strained to put a name to her face, but it proved futile. There were so many attendants on the premises as of late, and this one lacked any real defining features.

The woman bowed. “I have been sent on an errand to fetch some supplies from town. Lady Hisamatsu was very insistent.” She produced a slip of paper from her sleeve.

The guards exchanged a look. One of them took the paper and looked it over. It appeared to have the official seal of the Hisamatsu Clan, as well as Miki’s signature.

“Very well. But be careful out there. It’s late for a lone woman such as yourself to be out and about. We can’t leave our posts.”

“Thank you, sir. Rest assured, however. I am rather capable.”

With that, she left the Kenzo Estate, vanishing into the night.

——————

The space was not as dark as Shingen had remembered it.

The Moritoki patriarch sat upon his platform, looking over the ledger that Shingen had handed over just before. The ancient figure’s eyes sped across the pages, ensuring the object’s authenticity. After several long, intense minutes, the inspection seemed to conclude, and the chief snapped the ledger shut. A smile spread across his face, an action that almost seemed to be accompanied by a snapping sound of its own.

“I am impressed, Shingen. You have done a thorough job, and faster than even I had anticipated. More than skill, you must have the luck of the kami about you.

Shingen bowed. “You flatter me, truly.”

“Yes yes.” The chief slipped the ledger into his sleeve, and the tome vanished without a trace, hidden too cleverly for even Shingen to parse. “It is praise well earned. As well as this.” He cleared his throat, and lifted a hand.

“I hereby accept you into our ranks, to become a member of the Moritoki Clan henceforth. You will continue as you have, but now you may call upon the shadows for aid whenever you wish… Just as the shadows will call upon you.”

The chief slowly stood and turned to the side, gesturing into the deep darkness beyond.

“Welcome, Shingen of Infinite Faces.”

Shingen grinned beneath his face covering and stood. “Thank you, hashira. I look forward to serving.”

Shingen strode forward into the darkness, and the chief followed. Somehow, within the emptiness, the candles were snuffed out, their meager light extinguished with a sigh.

Only shadow remained.
