"Sandra? you aren't supposed to be here! This is -”
The silence in the observatory is broken as a woman in casual wear with a rough scar running down her chin rushes in to join the other lone scientist in the room, the clop of her boots against the metal floor echoing throughout.
“Show him to me…”
The death glare she shoots at the disheveled scientist discourages further protest as he flicks switches and enters commands into the central console, turning on lights on the other side of the reinforced glass with machinery whirring to life, a tangle of wires and plugs snaking towards the middle of the circular containment chamber…
…where a bodacious female android of alien design kneels lifelessly, joints lying limp and her alluring spine curved inward, internal components and artificial organs showing clear through her iridescent body, surrounded by a pale curtain of ghostly white hair that mirrors the skin of her face, where mesmerizing serpentine eyes stared back at the horrified woman with a pleading expression, begging for release.
“The reports never said anything about this…why hasn’t anyone done something to help him?!”
“It’s not that easy Sandra…for one; we aren’t even sure what we’re working with here, it’s literally alien in nature. And secondly, we can’t hook her…sorry, him, up to the system for analysis without making sure he’s clean of any viruses. And third…what makes you think there's any cure for…this?”
Looking back at the alien android with desperation in her eyes, Sandra couldn’t find an answer to the egghead’s question; eyes running over metallic limbs with alien flesh beneath, armor shaped into organic plates to line up well with her curvaceous form and an outer layer composed of fleshy, elastic material providing an eerie view into her reinforced skeletal structure complete with a womb flanked by ovaries, a pale machine heart beating slowly under the influence of a constant flow of anesthetics being pumped into her body to keep her contained.
Withdrawing the photo of a grizzled young man from her breast pocket however, Sandra knew there wasn’t any hope of seeing her commander again.
“But uhh…we did catch some interesting readings…not without sacrifice though…”
Turning around lightning quick, Sandra rushes over to the man with hope in her eyes. “What is it? If it’s not a cure…”
“We detected some spikes in brainwave activity that suggest Lt Denvers is still in there, just buried under all that tech and directives preventing him from taking control. You see that look? We thought it was some form of deception, to instill feelings of gui-”
“Cut to the chase Steve…”
“-Ahem! In a nutshell, Denvers is still alive…but to bring him back, we’ll need a live specimen to work with…and you know what that means…”
At that, Sandra’s eyes widen as she realizes the stakes if she wanted to save her commander. It meant going back down to the uncharted planet they now orbited. The same planet where Denvers had lost his humanity after saving Sandra from one of the many hostile machine lifeforms that skulked and crawled all throughout the surface, each one capable of assimilating both organics and synthetics while reshaping them to their needs; The fate that had befallen the Lieutenant after being injected with their biomimetic nanites. She’d barely escaped with her life back then, and she’d heard of the losses incurred from the party that brought Denvers back, it was how she had learned of where they held him.
And now she needed to go back down to that blue hellhole and bring one back alive
“I’ll do it….anything for Denvers!”
“I must clarify this; you know he won’t ever be ‘Denvers’ again right? His mind is intact…but his body-”
“I don't care…I love him all the same..no matter what he looks like right now, I’ll take the chance to save him!”
Looking back at the still android still staring at them, Sandra could see the look of fear in her eyes soften a little as if she’d heard what she said, the finger held around the trigger of the alien rifle in her hands softening just a bit. “Well…I can’t stop you…if you’re truly ready, there's a dropship in the hangar waiting for you…good luck Sandra.”
And so, turning towards the exit to the lab, Sandra sets off with a heavy heart filled with hope and fear, ready to dive feet first back onto hostile ground and wring in one of those scuttling freaks no matter what it took if it meant she could have her lover back in one piece…one plump jiggly piece…
