You awoke with a shudder, lifting your weary head off the table right as the fading rays of the sun begin to dip behind the horizon. Lesson time had long since ended with most of the clubs already packing up for the day. The only reason you remained behind was because you were waiting for your friend to finish baseball practice, falling asleep while waiting for Thomas to finish up.
Stepping up off your window side seat as you watch the remnants of the baseball team close up for the day, you hurry on out through the empty hallways of the school to the lockers where Thomas said he'd be waiting.
Passing by the rows of decorated and personalized lockers, your eyes begin to notice the various stickers and posters promoting Valentines Day on the walls and notice boards. You sighed as you ignored them, on days like this it only served as a painful reminder that he hadn't gotten himself a girlfriend yet.
Finally reaching your locker at the end of the corridor on the first floor, you looked around the dimly lit hallways, Thomas nowhere in sight as you began to sort through your belongings preparing to go home for the day before you noticed something weird tacked onto the door of your locker.
It was a small envelope with a red wax seal.
Opening it up with anticipation building in your chest, you slowly exhale in disappointment as the letter's contents soon sound like a bad prank instead of the confession you were hoping for.
Apparently, all you had to do to "attain true love on this most festive of days" was to burn the included stick inside while "painting the image of the woman you would like most by your side forever in your mind".
For all you cared, it was probably hogwash, but then again, looking back down at the small wooden flint in your palm. You began to think what the harm could be, you already had a lighter tucked away in your pocket, a simple flick of the switch and the stick would be lit…
Or you could ignore this bogus prank and walk out the school. Thomas was probably waiting for you by now at the front gate and eager to get going for the cinema to see that latest superhero movie that recently came out.
What do I do?
