You were running away, escaping, fleeing. It had been a long day, a truly long day. You were just a normal guy, coming back from a weekend at your minimum wage job at starbucks. A boring, grueling, job, having to deal with customers all the while. You had float between more than a few of them. Cashier, attendant, even worked in food for a while. That last one was the worst. Now, starbucks. You were just kinda floating through life, never doing anything of any true value. Now though? Now everything suddenly had a grotesque amount of meaning as if you stopped, you probably were going to die.

You could hear the howls in the wind, your own heart beating as your legs burned, your own fear ratcheting up, threatening to overtake you, as you crunched soft snow underneath your boots as you ran and ran. You could hear them behind you, gaining, their wet hot breath practically coiling around your neck. You were going to die, soon, and be ripped apart by a pack of shadowy wolves.

It hadn’t even been winter where you were at. You were casually walking down the street, returning home from a long shift, when you appeared here. No portals, no wizard casting a spell, no bright light. You didn’t even blink and suddenly you were here. You looked around, shocked and amazed, wondering what on earth could be going on, when the wolves came.

Wolves unlike any you had ever seen online or in pictures. Shadowy, huge, and with red glaring eyes that seemed to glow in the darkness of the woods. They howled and the hunt began.

Your legs, they were giving out. You hadn’t ran in close to a decade, not really, and you definitely hadn’t full on sprinted for so long. It was only a matter of time until you tripped or they simply caught up. How long could you outrun wolves? You were going to die, you were going to die, you were going to di-

There! A cabin!

It was your only chance, you turned, sprinting for it, hearing the wolves actually run faster. A terrible slice of acknowledgment came into your mind, a runner’s high based ingenuity connecting dots. They were chasing you for sport, holding back, but now? Now they were trying to kill you before you made it to the cabin.

You ran, you were so close, only a few more feet!

A pressure on your leg. Jaws. Jaws had clamped down on your leg, inches before your reached the door. You had failed. You were going to die.

NO! Your fear of death, of being mauled by shadow wolves, pushes you forward. You won’t die today! Not like this! You heave, throwing your body at the door, hoping that somehow it will prove to be your salvation.

To your immense luck, the door is not only unlocked, but also opens inwards. You look back at the doorway and come face to face with a shadow wolf. They had let go of your bleeding leg and were pouncing towards your face. Your eyes and pupils shake as the maw fills your vision, before they dissipate like dust in front of your very eyes. Suddenly, they were there, about to kill you, about to eat you, and then? Then you were fine and they were gone. Nothing remaining of them.

You look out through the doorway, more because that was where your head was facing than any actual attempt at it, and see the rest of the wolves growling, prowling, staring at you. But not entering.

You are safe.

You collapse, crying, bleeding, and terrified, but with relief surging through you.

You lived. YOU LIVED!

You pass out from exhaustion not a moment later.

When you awaken, it takes you only a second to realize where you are and what’s going on. The horrible dreams of being eaten alive certainly didn’t help with your psyche but they at least let you understand your position more fully. Tears still wet your eyes. Maybe from the dreams, maybe from the pain in your leg, maybe from the absolute fear and panic that nearly crushed you. Who can say? Maybe it was from the relief of still being alive.

You take a few shuddering breaths, knowing you’re probably gonna need therapy after that near death experience, if you ever get back home.

You stand up and look around a cabin. There’s a variety of objects lying around but honestly, it looks like a cabin. No, wait. Your eyes look around again and great feeling of confusion washes over you. You don’t know how you missed it the first time, probably magic, but absolutely nothing in this cabin is normal at all.

Sure, there’s a bed, there’s wooden walls, its small, there’s a small old timey stove, that’s all fine. But as you look around you see a variety of objects that have no place at all being in a cabin. You decide your next course of action.
