A light breeze brushed up against the juniper bush causing its two inhabitants to crouch in fear at the slight movement. The white, long haired Persian looked to her companion in fear. "Kitty Kitty, you go see who that is."
Feline eyes shifted from the white furred face to the sidewalk while being ready to bolt. Tentative steps led her to the edge. Still unseen in the hiding spot, she carefully scanned the darkened street and sidewalk that had been deserted for hours.
The overhead light continued to shine its amber light. Double checking that there were no scary people about, the calico whispered back, "It's all clear, Princess. When are we going home again?"
The long haired tail relaxed a bit at the news. "When we are sure it is safe."
"Isn't it safe now? We haven't seen a scary covered people for a long time now." She looked to the right again.
Princess settled mostly into the dirt. "A little longer."
Kitty Kitty peered to the left as a last check when she spotted an orange and white tabby was sauntering their way. Confident feet on the cement surface guided him until he noticed the face in the bush.
He headed their direction. "Why hello there, young lady.Wwhat brings you out on a night like this?"
The scout stepped back into their little alcove in the plant. "We wanted to get away from the ringing at our houses and found frightening people and we met and hid in here."
Princess looked at the new arrival and finished, "Now we are waiting until it is safe to leave."
The tabby smiled at them. "Oh, it's very safe. Why don't I escort you home to scare off anything that comes our way?"
Kitty Kitty pleaded with her eyes to the Persian while asking their potential protector. "You're sure?"
The tomcat turned slightly, "Absolutely. I guarantee it, or my name isn't Tiger."
The white Persian looked uneasy at the entrance and their visitor. "Well, I suppose that everyone has left. And, And it sure would be nice to have some male accompaniment. To protect us from the dangers out there. And it will be nice to get home." Kitty Kitty bobbed her head in eager agreement. "Very well, Tiger. We accept."
The pair exited their protection and became a trio. Kitty Kitty, being the braver of the two, stepped forward to take the lead. Princess, on the other hand, slowed to take the rear. And like that their party began to trek home.
After a moment of silence, Tiger broke it. "You know, Ladies, there's a story I hear around this time of year." He paused for dramatic effect. "Not far from here is a big, old house. It is a two story house with a metal fence and all sorts of weeds to hide and play in."
"I know that place," replied the leader and pointed with her face while she continued her course, "It's not far from here."
"I know. You know what else? There's a Siamese who lives there."
"Really? I've never seen him there." The white fluffy tail raised halfway in nervousness.
The tabby continued, "It's said that sometimes on a night like tonight with lots of people around, the cat will sit in the window and stare at the people passing by."
He checked his charges. Both were listening. "So, on those nights when the people pass and the Siamese stares, he takes on a mysterious glow. Any cat who sees the glow is doomed."
Kitty Kitty gulped fur lifting on her back. "Doomed?"
"Yes, doomed to disappear."
"Disappear?" Tail fully erect Princess slowed her step.
Tiger nodded slowly. "Never to be heard from again."
"no," they both whispered, stopped.
"I didn't believe at first either. But then my littermate, Tinker Bell, went missing. We searched and searched. Finally we found a part of her collar on that property. And there in the window was the Siamese
"
The tomcat sauntered past the frozen leader. "really?"
He looked into their frightened faces, "Really."
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" A white blur flew past them down the street, "I don't want to be killed!"
"Wait for me, Princess!" Kitty Kitty zipped after her.
After they were long gone, Tiger chuckled to himself. "Gets 'em every time. You know, I should go by there just for old time's sake."
He turned left where they had turned right and before long he was there. The dark and foreboding two story mansion stood there. The breeze picked up again. Creaking could be heard from somewhere on the place. With every other house dark with sleep, this house had a few windows lit. Tiger's eyes drifted from one to the next.
Until he spotted the Siamese in the window. Its eyes, mostly white and unmoving, were looking right at him. The curtains behind the cat began to glow around the edges of the slim feline. Then the light began to spread becoming a growing yellowish orange light. "EEEEP!" Tiger darted off into the darkness.

One frail, shaking hand held a candle. The other withered hand pulled aside the translucent curtain. "There you are, Snookims. I don't know why you climb up here. You are as blind as a bat." Unseeing eyes turn toward his master. He strokes his pet. Purring fills the room.
"Like usual, it's been a long night. Let's get you some food." The cat crawled into the old man's arms and snuggles in. He toddled out of the room; the floor creaked with each step.
"As a treat, you can show the new cat girls, Andrea and Millie, to their beds. Those silly boys should have known better than to ask for a trick on a night like this."
