Testing Telepathy

Water dove off the cliff like lemmings to their doom. The effect was a curtain like and with the wind coming off the desert, they began to unfurl. Due to the increased humidity, the man loosened his tie and ran a finger around his collar allowing him some relief. Row upon row of large stones like shark teeth stood between him and the crashing liquid. The flowing water rushed and leapt toward him like gazelles escaping a predator.

Why is this waterfall here in the desert? Where is the water coming from? How is it climbing so high? Has someone found this unique oasis before me?

He pushed these thoughts aside and checked the page in the book he held. This is the place.

In preparation for his ascent, he tucked the journal under his belt and behind him. Like a monkey he clamored on all fours up the jagged array of rubble. Despite the use of all limbs, the climb took quite some time.

Upon reaching the summit and the base of the crashing stream, he took a moment to calm his lungs' desire to drown from air. With a deft swipe he cleared the sweat pooling on his forehead. He dusted off his pants and straightened and cleaned his shirt.

Through the translucent cascading solvent, the man spotted his goal. There before him was a perfect curved arch entrance in the rock like a piece of the dough with the cookie cut out of it.

He steps forward along the path. Many little liquid bugs splattered and stung his head and shoulders, but he took no notice. Mini rivers ran down his face but were wiped away. Excitement of discovery urged him on.

And then he was through. Damp shoes squeak as steps are taken when they aren't slipping of the moss. The smell of fresh, clean air that comes after a rain filled his nose. Dirt caked on his wet hands as they lead him into the cave.

The light refracted into darkness dimly illuminating the path ahead. Using the last dregs of radiance, he pulled out the diary for once last refresh of the memorized words and pictures. "10 steps forward. Place hand in shaped hole. Begin."

He followed the instructions treading methodically. There at the appointed place appeared a hand shaped hole in the cracks and stratum of the wall, unnoticeable unless one was looking for it. He raised his arm and pointed his fingers to the sky to match the shape before him. With a step forward, his hand makes contact.

Begin? Begin what?

"I have been waiting for you!"

He looked around quickly but no one was there.
