“Thank You so much for watching Cassidy for me this week Lori” Erin Mitchell told her sister as she shuffled the papers in her hand once again making sure she had it all in order.

“No Problem sis…Cassidy is really a good kid. I can play Mom for her this week. Don’t worry about us…you know that if these meetings go off the right way, you’ll get that promotion you’ve been wanting” Lori Mitchell told her younger sister, smiling a reassuring smile all the while.

“I know…it’s just being a single Mom takes its toll. I should be here with my daughter” Erin said.

“No, you’re doing what’s best for both of you. You need to have a good and secure job and taking this trip will do that for you. We’ll be fine together while you go and make more money” Lori said.

Lori and Erin shared a house as Lori was recently divorced and Erin, while 27, still needed her sister’s help in both rent and babysitting her 8 year old daughter. This was Erin’s first chance to travel for her company and try to impress her bosses but it was also the longest she had ever been away from Cassidy.

Lori was 31 and while having been married for the last four years, she had never had children of her own. She had taken to Cassidy from day one and was looking forward to spending the week with her niece. “I know you’re nervous and upset but everything will be fine; now get going or you’ll miss your flight”

Erin smiled sheepishly and nodded while fighting back her tears. It was 4 A.M. and she didn’t want to wake Cassidy up before her early flight so she quietly headed out the door while Lori went back to bed.

Around 7, Lori heard footsteps in the hall and knew that Cass was up. She got up and padded down to the living room where she spotted her niece sitting on the end of the sofa eating Lucky Charms.

“Hey Aunt Lori…did my Mom make her plane?” Cassidy asked.

“Yeah…I got up with her and made sure she left on time. She’s probably still in the air right now; it’s a long flight to San Francisco”

“Yeah I guess so” Cassidy replied munching away.

Lori sat down next to Cassidy and folded her legs up beneath her. “So what do you want to do today?”

Cassidy shrugged “I don’t know…want to shoot some baskets?”

“Okay” Lori replied. There was a basketball hoop in the driveway and Cassidy loved playing. She loved it when she could drive and dribble past either her Mom or Aunt and score on them.

Lori got up and changed out her lounge pants and tank top for some shorts and a t-shirt while she pulled her long brown hair up into a ponytail. She put on her socks and sneakers as Cassidy came running back into the room dressed similarly.

Cassidy’s blonde hair was shorter but she still had enough to put into a small ponytail at the back of her head. She carried the basketball under arm as she slipped into her sneakers which were already tied.

With no close neighbors, they could dribble and tease each other as much as they wanted as the sun rose higher in the sky and put shadows on the backboard.

Cassidy drove to Lori’s right and was surprised when her Aunt stuck her hand out and poked the ball loose. “Ha-Ha” Lori laughed as the ball rolled away and into the grass.

“You got lucky” Cassidy called out as she chased the ball down. When she picked it up, she saw something shiny poking out of the grass.  “What’s this?” she said to herself as she bent down.

Just the one edge was out but it was enough to get her fingers on and get a good enough grip to pull on it. It was stuck in the dirt and grass but after a few seconds it gave way.
“Whatcha got there kiddo?” Lori asked walking over.

“I don’t know” Cassidy replied brushing off mud and dirt. She grabbed the bottom of her shirt and rubbed away even more.

As she cleaned it off, she saw that one side was flat and bare but the other side had a letter C and the number 8 below it. She furrowed her brow looking at it realizing that it could stand for her name and age. “C for Cassidy and 8 for how old I am…cool” she tossed it to her Aunt “Check it out Aunt Lori”

Lori caught the coin with both hands and flipped it over. Now on one side it showed the C and the 8 but on the other side, it now showed L and 31. “That’s weird…”

“What, that it shows my initial and my age?” Cassidy said bouncing around.

“No” Lori shook her head “It shows both of our initials and ages”

“Give me that” Cassidy said as she headed Lori’s way “That’s impossible…just a second ago that other side was flat”

“Look for yourself” Lori said as she flipped the coin to her niece.

“No way” Cassidy said taking in the coin with its etchings on both sides “Why would this have our initials and ages on it though…that doesn’t make any sense”

“No it really doesn’t…in fact; it’s just plain weird” Lori said.

Cassidy was holding it up with her thumb and forefinger pinching the outside edge. Lori reached over and as soon as her fingertips touched the coin, it began to glow.

“AH” Cassidy screamed and dropped it like it was hot.

The coin fell to the concrete at their feet still glowing. When it stopped glowing, Lori bent down to pick it up but was confused by what she saw “What in the…” she managed to say as she stared at the side of the coin facing up which now read L 8.

She picked it up and flipped it over tilting her head as she read the other side as C 31. As she was looking in concentration at the coin, she failed to notice that her shorts were beginning to loosen around her waist and cover more of her thighs.

Cassidy tried to get a good look at the coin and by the time she did, her shorts were growing tight on her growing legs, waist, butt, and hips. “What the heck?” she said in a voice that was a bit lower than usual.

As Lori held the coin, she looked at her niece and was shocked by what she saw “Cassidy!” she shouted.

Cassidy heard her name and looked at her Aunt but took a second to stare at her in confusion at what she was seeing. Her Aunt looked different to her, smaller and yet somehow younger too.

Her Aunt’s face looked different and she swore it changed as she stared with her nose getting smaller and her cheeks getting rounder.

Lori gasped as she saw Cassidy begin to grow taller before her eyes. Her niece was growing larger: She saw her shirt rise up and expose her belly as her shorts tightened around her waist and rose up her lengthening and widening legs.

Cassidy looked down; her feet were pinching in the ends of her shoes badly. As she looked down, she saw her toes bulging out and straining the ends of her canvas sneakers as her toes balled up in the front. She was afraid that if she didn’t get them off soon, her toes would pop out, ripping her shoes wide open.

It was too late though as she heard the fabric give way. It felt good in a way as the pressure on her toes and the sides of her feet disappeared. She looked down and wiggled her larger toes inside the socks as they continued to grow out longer and longer.

The shoes and socks were still tight around her ankles as her legs grew larger and longer. Her calves lengthened and her thighs filled out eventually tearing slits in the bottoms of her shorts as her legs expanded.

Cassidy’s ass and hips extended and grew outward tearing her shorts to threads as her waist and stomach grew out as well. She felt an odd tingling sensation as her panties rode up tight.

Despite the changes to her own body, she couldn’t get over what was happening to her Aunt. “Lori? Are you okay? What’s happening?” she asked, her voice deepening with every other word.

Lori looked across and saw that she was now equal in height to an eight year old. Cassidy was as tall as she was for only a moment before she rose up taller than her. Lori was looking up at Cassidy watching her burst out of her clothing as she herself shrank down smaller and smaller; her own clothing growing bigger and bigger on her dwindling frame.

Lori could feel her breasts retreating inward on her chest and her bra sliding around uselessly on her smaller frame. Her arms had thinned and flapped around inside sleeves that were quickly engulfing them. Her hands and nails looked tiny and were only getting smaller.

Her shorts dipped down as her hips pulled inward and her ass diminished down to nothing and as her waist and stomach pulled in. Her thighs shrank down and her shorts gave up their hold and slid down her dwindling legs. They pooled at her ankles as even her socks gaped and her feet shifted forward inside the now massive shoes.

Lori was having a hard time keeping her balance as her body shrank and her weight shifted.
The fact that her shoes were several sizes too big for her didn’t help her balance either. Her panties drooped and her t-shirt continued to sink lower and cover more of her body as she continued to shrink down shorter.

She looked up; way up to her niece and saw her maturing face and growing hair. The blonde hair darkened and now grew down over her shoulders were it lay against her chest. Her chest began to rise up as breasts began to grow. Small at first, they quickly gained size and mass and the light cotton of her shirt began to tear away along the sides.

Cassidy had already grown over a foot in height and wasn’t stopping yet. Her face tingled as her features shifted, grew and matured. Her arms grew longer and fuller and her hands and fingers pulsated out as they grew larger and longer.

As her face matured, Cassidy stared at her Aunt’s face as it got younger and less mature. “She looks like she’s my age” she thought before it hit her how tall she was and how different her body looked and felt. “No…she’s the kid now and I’m the adult” she thought.

As Lori felt her face tingle, she put her hands up and tentatively touched around. Her skin felt tighter and her face felt smaller. She couldn’t believe it but she had turned into a kid while watching her niece grow into an adult.

Lori reached down and pulled off the downed shorts while stepping clear of her shoes. Her panties were barely hanging onto her hip but her shirt was long enough to provide modest cover. As she bent forward, she was able to see clearly down the front of shirt through the gaping neck hole only to prove her point by seeing her flat chest. “How did this happen?” she asked in a very high pitched girls voice.

Lori and Cassidy were both stunned by the sound of her voice and by what they saw and felt.

“I don’t know” Cassidy replied; her voice deep and mature. Cassidy was taller than what her Aunt had been by several inches. She grabbed the bottom of her shirt and by simply pulling on it, proceeded to rip it even further. She was now showing under boob as the shirt tore away there first. “I’m huge” she said looking around the driveway “And you’re tiny Aunt Lori; I mean…you look like a little kid”

“I think I am a little kid” Lori replied. Somehow when that number on the coin switched; it switched us too” Lori said picking it up.

“So it’s magic” Cassidy said.

“As much as I don’t believe it; they say seeing is believing…so yeah, it’s magic” Lori had to admit. “But what kind of magic makes two people change ages with each other?”

“I don’t know…do you think this is permanent or like maybe we’ll switch back to our real ages later on?” Cassidy asked.

“I have no idea” Lori said looking up. The situation began to really sink in though and it hit her that she was supposed to be taking care of Cassidy for the week but now Cassidy was in her 30’s and she was the one who couldn’t reach most of the objects in the house.

“We need to get back inside…I feel really exposed out here” Cassidy said trying to make herself smaller.

“What a way to spend a Sunday morning” Lori said picking up discarded clothing from the driveway and rushing toward the house.

“I feel like a giant” Cassidy said “I think I’m going to fall over or trip over these long legs or something” she said making her way to the house.

“And I feel like a midget” Lori said trying to keep up “I’m like half my size now and these short little legs feel weird”

“At least you’ve been that size before; I’ve never been this big and…and…” Cassidy said stopping in the kitchen.

“And what?” Lori said getting inside and shutting the door.

“And you know…jiggly” Cassidy finally admitted. “Like, everything wiggles on me…” she grabbed her breasts “I’ve got boobs and my butt and hips are huge…it just feels weird”

“I know” Lori said looking around at how much larger everything in the house looked to her now. The center island was just below her chin instead of at her waist as she put the coin down on it. “Whatever we do, we have to keep that coin safe and try to figure it out; you never know, it might switch back for us” Lori said. “I hope it does…I don’t want to be a kid again”

“I don’t think I’m ready to be an adult either” Cassidy admitted as she ran her hands up and down her thighs. She wriggled her feet out of the torn shoes and pulled off her stretched out socks taking in her long toes.

“What am I going to do? We can’t let your Mom find out about us…she’ll freak out” Lori said running her fingers through her hair.

“She’ll freak out?! Everybody will freak out if we don’t figure this out” Cassidy responded and picked the coin back up. She turned it over and over between her fingers but it stayed dull and didn’t start to glow again.

“I mean…while we’re like this…I’m now older than my Mom” Cassidy said.

Lori just looked at Cassidy still trying to make sense out of any of it. She stomped through the kitchen and into the living room “Where’s my purse?” she said mostly to herself. She saw a purse lying next to the sofa but it didn’t look like any purse she or her sister owned. It was a dark pink color and all her purses were either black or brown.

“Who’s is this?” she said picking it up and noticing how heavy it was to her skinny arms.
Lori put it on the sofa and opened it up; standard female purse items were inside so she pulled out the wallet and opened it up. Her jaw dropped open and hit her chest. “Cassidy! You need to come look at this!” she yelled out.

Cassidy came into the room and saw Lori holding a wallet out at arm’s length toward her, a look of terror on her face.

“Oh…my…God” she whispered as she took in the wallet. “But this means…”

“This means that you actually are the adult” Lori said. “But what does that make me?” Lori took off scouring through the room looking for her own purse as Cassidy continued to look at the contents of the wallet.

The driver’s license showed a picture of a blonde woman listed as Cassidy Leigh Mitchell born May 12th, 1984. Height 5’10” weight 140lbs.

It was her birthday but the year was moved back to 1984 instead of 2007. She flipped through finding credit cards with her name on it as well.

Lori continued her frantic search but all she came across was a backpack that was different than Cassidy’s. It was a purple floral pattern where Cassidy’s was white and pink. Her heart was beating as fast as it could out of fear of what she would find inside.
She unzipped it and pulled out the first folder.

“No” was all she said seeing the name written messily on the top of the page ‘Lori Mitchell’ She stood up, tears in her eyes and balled her hands into fists “I’m a second grader!”

They looked at each other and both took off up the stairs, Cassidy in the lead with her long legs. She took the stairs two at a time and ran into her room. She stopped in the doorway though and Lori ran into her taking her butt right in the chest.

“This isn’t my room” Cassidy said looking around. It was a girls room without a doubt, but it wasn’t what she had.

“No…it’s mine” Lori said looking around before turning and going to the next room up the hall. She stood in the doorway and saw that the décor was different in that room as well “This, is your room”

Cassidy slowly walked to it and went in. It was different than Aunt Lori’s but still adult in every way.

Lori opened a drawer and took out a pair of light blue panties “I’m guessing that these are your size” she said flicking them over her shoulder. She opened the next drawer and found bras, 38D. “That must be your size cause it was never mine”

Cassidy removed the torn t-shirt that she still had on and looked down. She gasped at the full sight of her chest. “They’re so big” she said. Lori helped her get the bra on and fastened it for her in the back. Sure enough, it fit perfectly.

Cassidy stepped into the panties and found new shorts and a tank top and put them on, feeling better that she was at least dressed in clothes that fit.

“So that coin changed everything” Lori said. “It made you an adult and me a kid in every way shape and form…but only we know it happened”

“So the rest of the world thinks this is how it’s always been is what you’re saying” Cassidy said.

“I think so…it would seem like it anyway. Why else would you have credit cards and I can’t even write my name the right way anymore” Lori said. “There’s one other way to prove it”

“How’s that?” Cassidy said.

“Pictures” Lori replied as she went to Erin’s room. It was unchanged for the most part; all the décor was still the same but there was a subtle difference and it was exactly what Lori was looking for. She grabbed the picture frame from the dresser and saw a small brown haired girl in a white dress, not a blonde and knew it was her and not Cassidy in the picture for last year at Christmas.

There was another small picture tucked into the mirror that confirmed it. It was a picture from over 10 years earlier that until now had shown Lori and Erin at a Baltimore Orioles game but now there stood the 15 year old Erin and a 19 year old Cassidy, blonde and tall.

“I’m Mom’s sister now…and you’re…oh God…you’re…” Cassidy started to say standing behind her.

Lori turned “We’ve got to figure out that coin. I can’t call Erin, Mom” she stated.

Lori set her jaw and crossed the hall and went into what had become her room. She quickly pulled off the remaining too large shirt, bra and panties as she rooted through drawers to find replacements in her size. Once dressed, she tossed her shorter and thinner hair back and rushed down the stairs and went back into the kitchen.

She had to work to climb up onto the barstool that sat in front of it. She picked up the coin and kept looking at both sides, L8 C31. Cassidy came in and leaned forward onto the counter, her breasts laying out on it as she locked her knees back. “I don’t get it” she said.

“Neither do I and that’s the problem” Lori replied frustrated.

Cassidy took it from her fingers and held it in her own hand. She remembered how much bigger it looked to her when her hand was smaller but now it fit squarely in the middle of her palm. She clutched her fingers around it and squeezed.

It had been an hour since they had switched she realized when she looked at the clock on the microwave. Cassidy went to the fridge and said “You want something to drink kiddo?”

She stood up straight after realizing what she said.

Lori stared at her “What did you call me?”

“It just came out…I swear I didn’t even think about it. It just out naturally” Cassidy said mortified at calling Lori, kiddo.

Lori just shook her head and put her elbows up on the counter and put her head in her hands.

Cassidy got out a Diet Coke and cracked it open. She drained at least half of it before she lowered from her lips.

Lori kept her head down and closed her eyes tight as she internally fought against what she feared was happening to her: Hearing Cassidy call her kiddo jumpstarted the thought that since she was 8 years old physically, she would soon become 8 again mentally.

“I can’t lose my thoughts and adult mind…I have to fight it” she told her self even as thoughts began to pop into her mind against her will. She tried to think of work and all she saw were math papers with basic addition and subtraction on them. She tried to think of college and all she saw was coloring books. She tried to remember bands from the 90’s and nothing came to mind at all except a few snippets of a song she couldn’t even really place except singing “Hit me baby one more time”

“What did you just sing?” Cassidy asked her hearing the lyrics.

“Um…” Lori said.

“…Baby one more time by Britany Spears…I love that song” Cassidy said.

“I’ve got to get up” Lori said jumping down. She paced her way out of the room leaving Cassidy behind biting her lower lip with a confused look on her face.

Cassidy’s mind was playing all kinds of songs that she had never heard before and she saw snippets of movies she had never watched before. A distinct memory came in about watching Scream when it came out despite her Mom telling her not to. She was 12 in the memory…it was 1996.

“But that can’t be” she mumbled as more thoughts crowded in. She knew who she was and old she really was, yet she also realized that even as she stood there, her mind was changing…growing.

Lori nervously walked back and forth through the living room “Keep it together Lori” she told herself.  “Remember what you’re supposed to remember” she tapped her forehead knowing deep down that she was still changing…still shrinking.

Cassidy sat down at the counter, easily sliding onto the bar stool, her feet still touching the floor until she lifted them up onto the bottom rung. “I’m growing up…in my mind, I’m becoming 31 too” She looked around nervously “Whatever’s happening to me is happening to Lori in reverse. Everything I gain, she loses. She’s got to be scared about losing everything she’s spent her life learning and gaining”

By the time Cassidy made her way back to the living room, she found Lori sitting in a chair crying. She went to her and knelt down before her. She took her hands in her hands and said “I know you’re scared Honey. I feel it too; our minds are changing and it’s changing us further and further into what the world sees us as”

Lori just nodded and continued crying even harder. Full sobs racked her body and her breath began to hitch.

Cassidy stroked her hair “I know it’s scary but we’ll figure this out”

“Huh…H…How Aunt Cass?” she said naturally.

“We’re both super smart and we both now have a new way of looking at things so we’re bound to crack this and find out a way to swap back” Cassidy said squeezing Lori’s hands. She had caught the change in her name but wondered if Lori even did after saying it. It had probably come as naturally to her as calling Lori kiddo had to her.

“Where is it?” Lori finally asked.

“Um…oh” Cassidy got up and walked into the kitchen bringing the coin back with her. She sat down on the arm of the chair and they both held onto it with a death grip but nothing happened.

“Since it gave me your physical and mental age…and it gave you mine in return, maybe we can’t switch back” Cassidy said. “Maybe it was a one-time thing”

“I hope not” Lori said. “We have to keep trying Aunt Cass…we can’t just give up and let it win”

“But I don’t…I just don’t see how…” Cassidy said in frustration.

“Did you like make a wish or something on it? Is that why we switched?” Lori asked.

“No…it never crossed my mind to wish to switch places with you. I picked it up and I guess it was blank on both sides since when I touched it only the C and 8 were there. You touched it and the other side got the L and 31 on it. We both touched it then it glowed and the numbers switched sides to what we have now” Cassidy summed up.

“But both of us touching it now doesn’t do anything” Lori said.

“No” Cassidy replied.

Another hour passed before Cassidy’s phone went off with a call from Erin “What do we do?” Lori cried out.

“Play it by ear” Cassidy said as she picked up her phone and swiped. “Hey” was all she said.

“I’m on the ground in San Francisco…how’s my baby girl?” Erin asked.

“She’s fine…we’re both just…uh…fine…how are you? Are you tired?” Cassidy said.

“A little bit, let me talk to her” Erin said.

“Just a sec…” she put her hand over the bottom of the phone “She wants to talk to you”

Lori’s eyes widened but she took the phone “Huh…Hello” she said.

“There’s the voice I’ve been waiting to hear! How are you honey?” Erin said.

“I’m just fine” she said but her voice broke a bit at the end. She had no idea she would feel so vulnerable all of a sudden. A strange mixture played inside her. “I miss you Mom” she said.

“I miss you too Lori but this is for the best and it’s only a week. I don’t want to be here either but if I want to keep my job, I had to go” she said more to remind herself than her daughter.

“I know” Lori said suddenly feeling better, comforted and loved even.

They talked for a few minutes before Erin had to cut her off. “I see the person I’m supposed to meet; I’ve got to go but I’ll call you in a little bit okay. I love you”

“I love you too Mom” Lori said and she meant it.

She hung up and looked up at Cassidy “What…I just said what came to mind”

“I know you did” Cassidy replied.

They spent the rest of the day looking at and picking up the coin but nothing happened. They went to bed resigned to their fates.

The following morning, Lori woke up disoriented. “Where am I?” she thought pushing the heavy comforter off of her head. She caught a glimpse of her small hand and thought “What’s that?” before it hit her. “Oh yeah…I’m a kid”

She kicked her way out of the covers and took in her short and skinny legs, her tiny feet and her flat chest. Her stringy hair dangled down along her peripheral vision. She closed her right eye and took in the profile of her small pert nose. “I don’t want to go to school today” she mumbled.

She heard movement in the next room as Cassidy got up and ready. “Whoa” she said as she stood in the doorway.

Cassidy was already dressed and ready for her day at work. She wore black heels, a black skirt and a white blouse. She had her hair pulled back and up “Do you like?” she asked.
“Yeah…you look; great” Lori admitted.

“Thank You” Cassidy responded. “Let’s get you ready”

Lori turned and went to the bathroom while Cassidy went downstairs to get breakfast ready. “I told them I’d be in late this week so I could get you off to school” Cassidy said as Lori came downstairs. She wasn’t dressed yet and still wore the shorts and tank top she had slept in.

Lucky charms actually sounded good to her as she hopped up on the chair. As she spooned in another mouthful, she looked at the clock; it just changed to 7:42 when she saw something out of the corner of her eye.

“Oh My Gosh Cassidy!” she yelled as she jumped off the chair and pointed “The coin is glowing again!”
