Josie pulled into the parking spot in front of the Mayor’s office as the sun was starting to come up on the horizon. She gathered herself up and headed for the door. It swung open as she neared it.
“Hello Josie” Mayor Lams said with a pleasant smile.
“What’s going on around here” Josie said impatiently. “What the Hell kind of town is this?”
“Calm down Josie…have a seat and a…” Mayor Lams began.
“I can’t calm down…how could I possible calm down! I just changed into a woman” Josie ranted.
Mayor Lams pursed her lips. “I know…I understand that but frankly at this point I can’t really say much on this subject”
“What are you talking about?” Josie said.
“I must be honest with you because somehow you seem to be different” Mayor Lams said. “But that being said, you must be patient with me”
“I don’t understand” Josie began.
“Neither do I but you are not the first person around these parts that has spontaneously changed their body in some way shape or form. You should consider yourself lucky that all that happened to you was changing your gender”
Josie looked confused and she rubbed her eyes as the Mayor continued talking. “You’re lucky you didn’t regress into an infant or change into a small boy or…”
“…Or anything else. So what you’re saying is that other people have changed their…sex…their age…their what?” Josie said.
“I hope help is on the way. I’ve worked very hard to get some help into this town to figure out what has been going on” Mayor Lams stated.
Josie sat down hard on a bench. She put her head in her hands and ran her fingers through her now long hair. “What did you mean earlier about me being different?”
“Well, the thing is that most people forget what has happened to them after they change, but you haven’t and you don’t seem like you will”
“But what about other people…will they remember me as me…or like this?” Josie asked.
“You are now Josie Benson; everyone knows you are” Mayor Lams said.
Josie got up abruptly.
“Leaving so soon?” Mayor Lams asked.
“I have to go check on Grace…I have to talk to my daughter” Josie said.
“Talk all you want, but she will only know you as Josie”
Josie spun around to face the blonde haired woman who was a few inches taller than her.
“If you’re willing, you could be of some help around here since your mind seems unaffected by the change” Mayor Lams said. “I do hope that you can help out”
Josie shrugged her shoulders “Just let me know what I can do” she said as she turned and left the building.
“I’ll be in touch” Mayor Lams said as she left.
Josie drove back to her house, her mind racing. She pulled back into her drive and was relieved to find her daughter still sleeping. She threw away the note and headed back down to her bedroom.
Josie approached her room with trepidation reflecting back on what the Mayor had said to her. She flipped on the light and looked around. “Shit…she was right”
Josie walked to her dresser and picked up a bottle of vanilla peach body spray from Bath and Body Works. She opened the top drawer and found panties and bras inside. “At least I don’t have to go shopping” she murmured.
She found more clothes in her new size as she opened up her closet. Everything from sweaters to dresses and skirts hung in the closet. Rows and rows of shoes lined the bottom, all in women’s size 7.
“I need to check on Grace” Josie said, realizing that she should be waking up soon and besides a quick peek in her room before she left, she hadn’t really looked in on her.
Josie made her way through the living room and noticed subtle changes all around in the furniture and decorations. She opened her daughter’s bedroom door and took a step back; her hand to her mouth “Oh” was all she could say.
Grace sat up in her bed and ran her hand through her messy hair “Hey Josie” she said sleepily and looked around “What’s up?”
“Um…Grace?” Josie said in a very shaky voice.
Grace squinted and swung her legs over and off the bed. She stood up straight and stretched out her back with a loud popping crack “What’s gotten into you sis?” she asked.
“Suh…Sis?” Josie said on the verge of tears.
Grace slumped her shoulders and stuck out her hip “Are you okay…you look like you’ve seen a ghost?”
Josie stared in shock at Grace. Grace now stood several inches taller than her now; her long sandy blonde hair came down over her shoulders and sat just above a very well-endowed chest encased in a large old t-shirt.
Her legs were long and bare as she got out of bed and put on a pair of black glasses. “Are you sure you’re feeling okay?”
“I…uh…I didn’t sleep really good last night” Josie managed to say.
“Well that’s to be expected…your first night here and all. Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it in no time...I know it took me awhile when I moved in. Do you want some coffee?” she said as she walked past Josie and out into the kitchen.
“Sure, I need some” Josie said as she followed her out. “Am I her little sister?” she thought as she walked.
