Being five foot tall has never been easy…let me tell you, but since I hit this height at 12 and never grew even a centimeter or a millimeter more in the ensuing 14 years; it makes today even stranger. This is the story of the day I grew…
I got up this morning like always, felt the same as I always do. I went into the bathroom …didn’t even glance in the mirror since it was Saturday and walked down to the kitchen in my apartment. Since I live alone, I keep everything at my level…short. Nothing on the top two shelves of any cupboard at my place, no siree. I got my cereal and milk and opened the cupboard; “Shoot” I said to only myself. I glanced at the sink “Yep…still not going to do dishes” the pile in the sink was high. I had used my favorite four bowls and was now onto the back stock. Even the second level of the second shelf was a challenge for me, but I reached in and surprisingly grabbed a bowl with no effort. I didn’t think anything of it and went about my day.
I was in the shower and once again, everything is at my level and has been for years; so with soap on my face and not wanting to open my eyes, I made my usual blind grasp for the shampoo. I missed: I waved my hand and nothing, and then I dropped my hand and hit the top of it. I had been reaching way too high, but I had just put my hand out at arm’s length like always…
I dried off and started to get dressed when things really got strange. I put on my panties and thought they felt tight. I put on my bra and felt the shoulder straps dig in. Adjusting and mumbling, I put on my black top “What the hell is going on?” I said out loud. “Did all my clothes shrink last night?” The shirt felt tight. I lifted up my arms and could feel it pull against my upper arms and rise up higher on my stomach. Scowling I grabbed a pair of jeans. Now they were usually tight, but it was almost unbearable today and my ankles were exposed. “Okay…what?” I was so confused at that moment “None of my clothes fit” I shook my head and wiggled my right foot into the black flat that was next to me. It was a tight fit; I wiggled and had to reach down and pull the heel back for my foot to fit.
I shoved my left foot into that shoe and totally freaked out, I walked to the mirror. I saw myself standing there and I breathed deep “What is going on” I asked the reflection. My clothes were way too tight and not fitting right. My shirt had always sat slightly down, but now it was right at waist level. My pants looked like a flood was on its’ way and as I looked down, every toe was clearly defined inside my shoe end. “I have toe cleavage”.
I went to the hall closet and got out the small toolbox that was in the bottom. I took out the tape measure and backed against the wall. I kicked off the shoes; feeling better without them on I realized, and stepped on the bottom of it. I ran my hand across the top of my head and spun around.
My mouth hung open. “What?” I felt a rising panic in me. My heartbeat picked up, butterflies took off in my stomach. My hand held the tape tight against the wall, pinned beneath the hand was the number 64”. “No…” I stammered “No that’s not right” shaking my head feverishly back and forth. I quickly back up, pulled the tape to the floor, pinned it beneath my heel and ran my hand across again. I spun and was once again greeted by the number 64”
“No. No. I am not 5’4”…I…I’m 5’ tall even…you don’t just grow 4 inches when you’re 26 years old. You don’t just grow 4 inches in a morning” I felt a tightness in my back and a need to stretch. I rolled my shoulders and bent over at the waist. I straightened up “Uh” I looked down “No” was all I managed staring at the gap that now let my stomach show through.
I yanked my shirt down, but it popped right back up. I dropped the tape measure as my hands went to my waist. “No no no no no no no oh God no” I looked down further to see my pants now riding lower on my waist and higher on my ankles. I ran back into the bedroom to the mirror. “What the hell is happening to me” I cried “Why is this happening to me? What’s going on?” I cried. I walked back and picked up the tape measure. Walking back I could feel the jeans rubbing against my thighs and straining at my waist. My shirt felt tight across my back and almost my whole upper arm was exposed. Using the mirror as my backdrop, I once again spun and put my back to the mirror. I stepped on the bottom of the tape and pulled upwards. I slid my hand and closed my eyes as I turned around. “Shit” I yelled. 66 ½” stared back at me. I started to cry. Sobs racked my body I was so confused I didn’t understand anything that was going on.
After several minutes of crying I took a deep breath. I pulled my shirt off and unhooked my bra, I immediately breathed deep. I hadn’t realized just how tight they had become. My pants were harder. The button was barely hanging on and I sucked in as hard as I could to unbutton them. Talk about a deep exhale. I had to shimmy the pants down my legs and peeled them off my calves. It felt better as I pulled the panties off too. Everything was too small now. I turned back to the mirror “Jesus…Is that me” I said to the reflection.
I looked different. My face had changed. Being small all over, I had very small features, but now, now they were different. My face was longer, my jaw and chin more prominent, my nose was longer and broader. I still looked like me, but yet I didn’t. My hair was still brown and hung to my shoulders in the same style. I guess you would have said that I had an elfin face to go with my build. I stepped onto the scale in the corner. The last time I had weighed myself it had read 107. Now I stepped on and felt my eyes bulge at the 134 that registered. Let alone that I could tell that my feet were further away now.
I was getting bigger everywhere. I noticed my feet looked different. Bigger of course, but with the increased size came longer toes and bigger toenails. Same with my hands: They were bigger but still feminine, longer though.
I felt a weird feeling in my stomach. It fluttered anew and my mouth filled with saliva. I swallowed hard and felt a tingle race through me. I shuddered like I had just stepped out into the cold. I turned and could tell from the mirror that I had grown again.
Standing up straight now, the top of my hair was cut off in the mirror. I stepped closer and just made it worse as more of my head and face disappeared. I bent down and grabbed the tape measure. With equal parts fear and curiosity, I stepped down and ran the tape up. 70” now marked where my hand hit. “Jesus, will it ever stop. Will I stop growing now? Will I ever stop?” I cried again at 5’10” I felt like Alice in Wonderland as she grew.
I sat down on the side of my bed. “Wow” was all I said as my feet remained planted on the ground after I slid back a bit. “How is this real? How can this be happening?” I cried. I curled up on my side in bed and lay there.
I must have dozed off for a bit. I woke up and thought “It was a dream! It’s only a dream Oh…” I had sat up and straightened out my legs and as my feet hit the base board “Uh…Fuck me…”I wiggled my big feet back and forth on the board “Not a dream”.
I swung my long legs off the bed and stood up “Oh God…I’m even taller” I said somewhat incredulously. I felt taller, I knew that much. I swung myself towards the mirror “Oh…my…GOD” I yelled. My hand clamped over my mouth to keep a primal scream inside me and not alert the neighbors to call police, but scream I did.
I had changed even more. “This cannot be happening” I said as I rushed towards the mirror. I ducked down and took in the reflection of my different face. Same basics, new arrangement; “I…I…I’m so…big”
After a few minutes of panting and crying I finally pulled the tape measure down and I swear my feet had doubled in size, but I put the tape hook under my heel and pulled up. I slowly ran my hand back and shuffled around keeping my foot planted and turned to see the number 73” in front of me.
“I don’t even know who I am now” I cried.
I sat down hard on the ground, naked and afraid and confused. I flicked the tape measure in and out. I stuck my foot on it and pulled it out, measuring my foot at 11 inches. “Size 6 no more…” I rested my chin on my knee. My thighs were bigger, my waist was bigger. I was still slender but I was bigger everywhere. I reached my boobs, always flat chested, I wore a 32A, there still wasn’t much there, but they were bigger too.
Sitting on the floor staring alternatively at myself and the mirror image of myself, I felt a rising panic of never stopping; that this would just keep on going and going. Then I felt the flutter in my stomach again, like the last time saliva filled my mouth. I went completely still and felt my vision blur and my head swim. I felt my legs growing, I felt my back lengthen and my shoulders widen. I flexed my fingers and opened my eyes.
“Might as well see how much taller I am now” Standing up was now a new adventure. Whereas I had always just popped up before compact and ready to go; now in this body, standing was an awkward unfolding and lifting process. I turned to the mirror and stopped “What the hell?” I said as I stared at my reflection…my full reflection. “My head’s not cut off anymore” I said walking towards the mirror.
I did my tape measure ritual again and turned to see the number 76” before my eyes “Six fucking foot four…I’m 6’4” now…un fucking believable” I shook my head and looked the long way down to the floor.
That’s when I noticed the shoes.
I saw a blue Nike tennis shoe on its’ side next to the wall. I reached my long leg that direction and hooked my big right toe over the edge and flipped it towards me. It landed the right way “Huh…”
I stared at it a moment…it looked like it would fit. “That’s…weird” I said. Even the voice in my head sounded different, my voice sounded deeper. I angled my foot and stuck my toes inside and followed the rest of my big honking foot into the shoe. It fit perfectly.
“What the hell.” I said pulling my foot out. “Why would I have a shoe this size?” I looked back at the mirror and saw my whole head; along with space above it. “What?” I looked around the room “What? This…this is…different” I walked towards my closet. It was open half way. There were boxes stacked on the top shelf. I had never stacked boxes up there, let alone towels and sheets, which I saw up there. I opened the door. ”What? My Clothes!? What happened to my clothes?”
I grabbed a sweater that looked like my favorite one, but instead of being a petite small, the label now said XL tall. I pulled it over my head and it fit. “What the…” I managed as I grabbed a pair of black pants. They were super long and big but I stepped into them and they fit perfectly, stopping right at the top of my feet. I saw shoes lined up on the floor and using my toes I dragged a pair of black flats out. I slipped my feet right into them, fitting just right. “Huh” I laughed. I turned to the dresser and opened up the drawers seeing panties and bras in size XL and 38B.
Everything had changed, even my purse hanging on the door was bigger and I grabbed the wallet out and flipped to the drivers’ license. Mallory Page HT 6’4” WT 195
I’ve gotten used to being tall, but it’s just the opposite side of the coin. Whereas when I was short, I had problems moving the car seat up enough to see and drive, now I bang my knees and slide it back as far as it can go.
I can’t take baths now; I don’t fit in the tub and doorways are now the enemy. I had never known the hip pain of being forced into a seat with no leg room, but I know it now.
Shopping for clothes at 5’ and 6’4” are also similar in that nothing fits. Capris used to look like pants on me, now they’re shorts. Maxi dresses either sweep the floor or expose half my calf now. Jeans never fit before too long, now too short; nothing fits a waist. And if I hear how’s the weather up there? or do you play basketball one more time…
