Thank you to gggg78910 for the idea of the feminizing spring to be used for treating hysteria/testeria 😊
His examination was long and thorough, utilising every test that cutting-edge, 18th-century science knew: primarily palpating the prostate and penis with all the rigor befitting his profession. It was a curious case. A gentleman of unimpeachable breeding and vaunted moral standing within Victorian society who had, for reasons beyond comprehension, been caught in the pantry with his hands down the maidservant's bodice. What in the name of all that was good and holy could have driven a husband to act with such unseemly derangement?
The physician measured out a tincture of opium in a vial of brandy and passed it to the man. "Drink," he instructed. Within minutes, the man lay slack and insensate on the examination couch. Solemnly, the physician returned to the man's wife in the waiting room.
"I've given laudanum to quiet his nerves, lest he harm himself further, or worse, his reputation."
Her lips tightened. “And what, sir, is your diagnosis?”
"I have news, both good and ill. The good, madam, is that you may take solace knowing that your husband was not acting unfaithfully - at least, not intentionally so. It was no moral depravity, merely a fleeting manifestation of an underlying illness. For you see, your husband is very sick.
I'm afraid that he is completely testerical."
The noblewoman's expression was admirably stoic, though he sensed her shock.
"Testeria is, alas, a lamentable disorder. Common among men of aristocratic blood," he assured her. "It is caused by an overexcitement of the male generative organs. The glands become enlarged and can even wander throughout the body, disrupting the careful balance of the humors. The vulnerable minds of the simpler sex are helpless against it. They become victims to excesses of emotions and deranged impulses. Husbands may even lose interest in pleasing their wives."
"That's awful!" she gasped. "Can he be cured?"
"There are treatments. Would you believe that, in the days of Ancient Egypt, they would fumigate the anus with burning herbs to lure the prostate back into its proper position." He scoffed lightly. "Thankfully we're rather more sophisticated these days. No, a minor frontal lobotomy should clear the problem up nicely. Alternatively..." He paused as he reached for his tools. "I might prescribe gynite therapy. There is a treatment spa recently established in Harrogate atop a gynite spring. It specializes in handling such malfunctioning men. There, your husband will be bathed in gynite-infused waters, drink of them, undergo a most rigorous regimen of douches, enemas, and mineral compresse, etcetera, etcetera. His disobedient male organs will atrophy away into nothing and his attitude soften. Trained professionals will then subject him to months of pelvic massages, inducing repeated testerical paroxysms. When we are completely satisfied that his humors have settled, we will allow them to grow back, healthy and in their correct alignment."
The wife thought long and hard. "Very well. We'll try that. And, if that doesn't work, the lobotomy."
