'Manny or Nanny' had been on the TFPD's radar for a long time, though the mundanity of its threat had always reliably pushed it down the list of priorities the police service had to deal with. The show was broadcast on the Dark Web, three two-hour episodes over the course of a week. With Monday's broadcast, a man was snatched off the streets and subjected to black-market cosmetic surgery, transforming him into a perfect piece of eye candy. He was returned to his family as an anonymous maid, along with a genuine woman, and the competition would begin. Wednesday would detail his experience back in the family home. Friday was when the audience and family members would vote.

The audience figures were huge; millions of viewers tuned in to the illegal broadcast to watch the man's sorded ordeal. The producers, whoever they were, must have been making bank, since production values rivaled anything Netflix could put out, and the sex reassignment was clearly performed by what must have been the best surgeons in the business. And the prize money was a million dollars.

The rules were simple; the stakes were high. At the end of the week, if the family could pick the former man from the two maids, they would receive the million, while he would be left with nothing, tossed back out into the world without even his identity. But if he played the maid well enough for them to mistake him for the real thing and chose the other instead, he would be given a full surgical reversion.

It was an ugly business, pitting maid against maid, and man against his own family. Most men were terrible at it, giving the game away very quickly. Half the show's appeal was in watching their bumbling impressions, smelling the desperation as they realized they were rumbled. Considering the gross illegality, the producers went to lengths to cover their tracks, concealing faces and places where possible. However, the true reason they hadn't been caught was that the case had been in the hands of Detective Olsen for three years. A man who was, along with being a terrible detective, also one of the show's biggest fans.

"Time to go review the evidence," he'd cackle to the police precinct as he skipped away to the break room for that day's broadcast, pen and paper resting in his lap so as to appear to be doing legitimate detective work, while his feet were propped up on the table.

"Welcome back to Manny or Nanny! In a moment, we'll be introducing the family to their new helpers, Rosa Delgado, a maid and former wet nurse from Colombia, and Amélie Charpentier, a teenage Au Pair from Lyon. But only one of them is real. The other is a 41-year-old father of two. Can you figure out which is which before his family does? Stay tuned!"

"Definitely lefty! Righty totally wants it!" the Detective crowed, pulling a tub of popcorn closer.
