In this episode, we have a creature in dire need of a makeover. One of our viewers has sent us Riley, her mortal boyfriend, a North American Shorthair. Like many witches, she acquired him as a companion animal during COVID lockdown but was unprepared for just how demanding of time and attention human males can be, or the behavioral problems they may develop if improperly trained. As she puts it, the creature refuses to follow even the most basic commands, leaves messes all around the home, and appears incapable of grooming itself. So let's see what we can do with it!

On its arrival at the salon, it was indeed in a bad state, with greasy, matted fur and a beard that clearly hadn't been brushed in months. As with many of our boyfriend-to-bitch conversions, Riley was something of a drama queen, refusing to take his medicine even after we mixed it with his food. But with some firm encouragement from one of our experienced handlers, he bravely swallowed a mouthful and the process could begin. He very quickly sensed the changes. The North American breeds are known to be quite vocal and Riley wasted no time in letting us know precisely what he felt about his treatment, snapping and barking at his groomers. Animals can sometimes find this stage a little distressing as the arrival of the fur beneath the skin is super itchy, particularly as the pressure begins to separate it from the underlying fascia. It's important to progress quickly to minimize distress for the animal, applying a medicated skin treatment to soften and break down the now-dead outer layer of human flesh.

As Riley's bones began to twist and warp, she tried several times to escape the shower -soaking us in the process!- so she was given time in the cone of shame to calm her before being shackled to the wet room wall. Though this may look cruel, it doesn't hurt the animal and lets the groomer maintain a safe distance for when the pupper is feeling bitey. We switched to a pressure hose to really loosen those chunks of old, damaged human flesh, and Riley soon began to shed, exposing that healthy fuzz beneath, until finally the last of his face sloughed off her animal skull and washed away down the plughole.

We're relieved to say Riley became much more docile after that, standing quietly and trembling while we completed her makeover. We gave her a thorough going over with the de-matting comb to remove any lingering flesh scraps or fingers, then we sculpted and dyed her a beautiful shade of pink, shaved out her paw pads, and pet-icured her claws. Lastly, we gave her a spritz of puppy cologne. And there we have it! A clean, well-groomed, healthy bitch. Perfect to be turned into a familiar or kept as a pet. She's still a little unsure of quite what just happened, so we give her time to recover in the kennels with the other dogs until her owner comes to collect her. Tune in next time for her reaction!
