Dear Margaret,

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this letter gets to you. They say the owl knows where it's going somehow, and I'm learning not to question the logic of this place. Oh, apparently electronic devices don't work on the grounds of Pigswills, so if you've been texting, I've not received any of them. I wish they'd mentioned that before I packed the Kindle!

Hope the kids are well. Missing you lots and desperate to be home for Christmas. I can't help but feel out of place here. I must be old enough to be the father of half the students! I'm miserable without you, dear. I'm failing most of the classes. The only one that makes any sort of sense is transfiguration. The professor seems to think I'm a natural - the next Nicolas Flamel, whoever that is.

There is one friend I've made. A young man, Jonas, from Supplepuff Pufflesub. Started following me like a lost puppy after class, asking to be a study buddy. Always wanting to practice transfiguration together. Keeps bringing me new spells to try. Says he wants me to rearrange his guts, which frankly sounds like an unsafe use of magic. It's wonderful to have a subject to test my new abilities on, but he's persistent, demanding even. I've no idea how he keeps getting in here! I thought the Garmrdyr common room was just for Garmrdyrians. Just this morning I woke up to find him at the foot of my bed, asking if I wanted to practice hot water bottle transfigurations!

Well, beggars can't be choosers. It's just nice to have someone to talk to. He must be missing his family too - he keeps calling me his 'transfiguration daddy.'

I'm unsure of the carrying capacity of an unladen delivery owl but could you return it with some of your home baking?

All my love,

Roger
