Hey, Mom. Dad forbade me to turn this phone on except in an emergency, but he's sleeping and, after the night we've had, I wanted to write you something. Just in case they find this phone on three cat skeletons.
Down to 43% battery so I'll type fast.
We survived the crash. Some time during the night the jetfuel at the crash site must have ignited and started burning up half the island. We ran like hell. As fast I could with Simon slung over my shoulder anyway. A river cut off our escape. Dad thought our best bet would be to follow it to a beach. But wading downstream and scrambling down ravines was so slow. The wildfire was right on our tails.
We must have burned through 8 of our 9 lives finding this cave. So like 27 lives total. It's tucked behind a waterfall so we're protected from the heat. Everything is still burning out there but in here its damp and cold.
Dad hasn't slept since Tokyo and Simon has zero stamina in his new body, so the two of them are fast out, curled up on the last scraps of our clothing. You should hear them purring. There's nothing to do but sit tight and wait for things to die down out there.
I'm exhausted. Sprinting with 10lbs of cat over your shoulder drains it out of you. My legs ache and my teeth are chattering from the cold in this place. That pile is looking real cosy right now. Maybe they won't mind if I squeeze in between them.
37%. I gotta turn this off. I love you so much. If you find this, and if anything happens to us, at least know we found a little peace before the end.
