Part Four:

--Mysterious, repetitive slapping sound--
Captain Alan Reed: -little bitch. Ughn, you like that, don't you, you dirty animal. Ngh. Naughty little fox. Why don't we get your sister over here and- hey, what are you doing?! Don't touch that! Stop! You-!
--Slapping ceases--
--Sounds of a scuffle. Human shouting--
Audio cuts out.
That was the last, chilling transmission ever sent from WereAir Flight 269. In the seconds that followed, monitoring stations on the ground would detect the plane executing extreme maneuvers, violently pitching left and right, before eventually levelling off and turning eastward, out over the Molucca Sea. Moments later, the plane vanished from civilian radar, suggesting that the plane's transponders had been manually disabled. Since then, the location of Flight 269 and its thousands of dehumanised passengers has become aviation's most enduring mystery.
The journey began as a scheduled flight from Tokyo to Perth, Australia. Piloting that day was Captain Alan Reed, a veteran with WereAir with over 12,000 flight hours and a flawless track record, aided by his First Officer, David Harris, and carrying some 2,870 passengers, the majority of which had been reduced into highly transportable, anthropomorphic animals, as is standard practice for the airline. Secured in the plane's hold were the vials of human DNA that would revert them upon their arrival in Perth. But the plane would never arrive.
Theories abound as to what occurred on that fateful day. Investigators were quick to focus in on three passengers who were determined to have used stolen passports to board the flight under false identities. Analysis of CCTV determined their real identities to be three brothers - Ali Farhad, Mohammad Hossein Farhad, and Amir Farhad, Iranian citizens wanted for their connections to extremist religious movements opposed to human transmutation. Prior to boarding, two of the brothers were transformed by WereAir into vixen-like forms, while the third was given the appearance of a beautiful, buxom, blonde-haired catgirl. It is theorised that, while First Officer Harris had left to visit the bathroom, two of the brothers used coercive measures to gain access to the flight deck, where they distracted and incapacitated Captain Reed and took control of the plane. One of the brothers may have accidentally activated the microphone that transmitted the final message while scampering across the controls.
The wife and family of Captain Reed dispute this version of events, maintaining that he would never have gone against policy by allowing passengers onto the flight deck. However, many have questioned this, pointing to a lax safety culture among WereAir pilots. They are said to rarely considered their half-animal passengers as a potential threat, as they are intentionally made as small and slender as possible to save on fuel costs. Ex-WereAir employees claim pilots routinely interact with passengers, even inviting them up to the flight deck for treats and belly rubs. Independent analysis of other WereAir planes found traces of fur and DNA of over 30 different species splattered over the flight instruments. In response, WereAir has insisted it will begin a policy of declawing economy passengers, as well as sourcing animal DNA from particularly obedient specimens.
The question remains - why? Was the hijacking religiously motivated, a protest against what they viewed as meddling in the design of the human body as laid down by God? And where does the plane now rest? Final data collected by military radar shows the plane continuing to fly out into the vast Pacific ocean. Only pieces of wreckage were ever found, floating within the Pacific garbage gyre, along with several vials of badly degraded human DNA conclusively ascertained to have belonged to passengers on the flight. And yet these glass vials were unbroken. That raises the tantalising possibility that the plane did not crash, but was instead guided down in a controlled ditching. They may even have attempted a landing on one of the thousands of tiny islands that stud that vast ocean. It raises the tantalising possibility that the crew and transformed passengers may yet be alive, condemned to live and survive as animals on some remote outcrop of land thousands of miles from human rescue.
