In this month's newsletter, we sit down with Officer Charles Sullivan who will be retiring from the TFPD after 31 years on the force. His work on breaking the XChange smuggling cartels won him acclaim, though at great personal cost.
Mr Sullivan, what drove you to join the TFPD?
Initially the hazard pay. We had a child on the way and needed the money. But this job quickly becomes your life.
Six years ago you suffered an injury in the line of duty. How did that affect you?
I don't pity myself. I don't believe in it. Most officers don't make it to the end of careers with their masculinity intact, and I've had colleagues who wound up far worse than me. I was lucky to have already earned the respect of my peers when it happened. But my wife got the worst of it. I wish I was... I...
Why are you choosing retirement?
I'm younger now than when I joined, but mentally I'm starting to feel it. The world is changing so fast. When I started, there was one gender pill on the streets - man to woman. Today, all these synthetic drugs... XChange purple, XChange compliant, XChange dreamwalker for christsake... I'm too old for this shit. It's time for the newer generation to take the helm.
What will stay with you the most?
The uniform. I don't have a lot of clothes that fit.
After the things they've seen, many of your peers opt for mind wipes upon retirement. You haven't?
I've given my body to this job. If I lose my mind, what's left?
What are your plans for retirement?
I'd like to get into fishing. I'd like to spend time with family. Me and the son haven't spoken much since my accident. It's time I gave him an apology.
