If you are just awakening from anaesthetic, do not be alarmed. During your recent elective surgery, or following an unexpected accident, it was deemed necessary to utilise an animal-derived xenograft for your recovery. Your xenograft is comprised of specially-treated canine skin and fur, ethically sourced and carefully grafted onto your body to assist in the healing process. Fat and muscle tissue may also have been used. In rare cases, if the extent of your injuries necessitated it, external features, such as ears and genitalia, may have been removed and replaced.
In this video, we will help you to adjust, and walk you through the essential steps for a comfortable recovery.
Embracing Your Fur-Covered Skin
Take a moment to breathe. Gently touch and feel your new fur. It is a part of you. Do not attempt to remove it. Embrace the uniqueness of this new you. Notice any interesting fur patterns. Remember to keep breathing.
Mental Wellbeing/Pain Management
It is normal to experience some confusion. Know that your procedure or resulting appearance does not in any way make you an animal, nor any less of a man in the case of genital loss. Your medical team will provide medication to help manage any soreness, or a sedative if needed. Follow their guidance.
Hygiene and Grooming
Depending on your medical team's recommendations, you will need to wear loose, breathable clothing that allows your fur to breathe and heal. Keep your grafts and incision areas clean and dry. Follow your medical team's instructions for bathing and caring for your fur.
Your fur requires gentle care. You can lightly brush your fur with a soft, non-abrasive brush to help maintain its cleanliness and appearance.
A healthcare assistant will arrive shortly to groom you for the first time.
