It was a nightmare. It had to be. The anxieties of starting a new job had made my sleeping mind go overboard.
So why couldn't I wake up?
With a wet schlorp, the mad doctor set aside the gore-encrusted circular saw and the bowl-shaped top of my skull, scalp and hair. As he came at me with what looked very much like an ice cream scoop, I knew with relief that I'd soon be waking up in bed with Sarah by my side.
Yet only a black, senseless abyss enveloped me, held me for what felt like days. My thoughts during that time were strange - often confused and rambling, other times rigid and alien, as though not my own.
[The time is 09:00. The day is tuesday, 27th of June. Shift commencing.]
It was as though somebody had flicked a switch. Suddenly I could see, I could move. I sat upright on the hard metal slab I found myself. The room looked like an engineering station for assembling machines, yet sterile like a surgical theatre. A soft blue glow illuminated my surrounding.
A glow that came from me...
