Throughout the night, Emma tossed and turned in her sleep.  She kept having nightmares about her husband being stuck as an inanimate object for the rest of his life, being transformed into a variety of sextoys and household items.  It was about 5 AM when the nightmares ended, and she finally had a normal dream. In this dream, she had escaped her scary human life and had transformed into a gorgeous grey cat that had the whole house to itself. She loved how freeing it was to have such a simple existence, to be free from all the responsibilities she had as a person. As a cat the world was so much bigger and mysterious, and she felt like she finally had the freedom to explore life and be at peace with herself. It was definitely a much needed break from the horrible thoughts that ran through her head previously.

But all good things must come to an end, and as the morning came, Emma began to wake up.  As she rolled over in bed onto her stomach, Emma reached out her front paws and arched her back to get a nice stretch in.  She took a few seconds to shake her body a bit to wake up fully, and when she was good and awake, she popped up on all four of her tiny paws and sauntered over to the edge of the bed, completely oblivious to what had happened to her throughout the night.

After Emma leaped off of the bed, she decided that a nice bowl of cereal would be a great way to start the day, so she went out the bedroom door that was cracked open, and trotted down the stairs, her Grey tail swinging back and forth with each step.  When she approached the kitchen, that was the first time that she felt something was a bit off.  Why was the kitchen counter so enormous, and why was everything else so much bigger as well?  She was going to say something out loud to herself but suddenly a sharp “Meow” came out of her mouth instead. She instantly cupped a paw to her mouth, shocked at what came out. ‘What the heck? Did I just meow? Hold on a second…’ She sprinted over to the nearest bathroom and noticed how big everything in there was as well, but decided she needed to see in the mirror if her hunch was real. So she made a giant leap off her hind feet and jumped onto the toilet seat before jumping again onto the sink area. Just as she had expected, when she glanced in the mirror, all she saw was a small grey house cat with tiny little ears and a long swishing tail staring back. ‘Ok, don’t panic Emma. So you’re dream last night became a bit more real than you thought, and now your a cat. It’s fine, everything’s fine. You’ll just go back upstairs and figure out what happened…Oh no, everything’s not fine. I shut the bedroom door behind me when I came down here. How am I gonna get back in there in this tiny body?’ She lifted a paw to examine it and the sharp claws that extended from it. ‘Guess I’ll have to figure out how this happened down here…’

‘Ok, So I had a dream that I transformed into a cat and could run around and do what I wanted. Then I wake up and I discover that I’ve transformed into said cat in real life. But why?’  As she talked in her head, she glanced once again at her cat body in the mirror, and that’s when she saw the collar around her neck and everything finally came together. ‘Ohhhh, I was wearing Dylan when I went to sleep last night. So when I dreamed I was a cat, Dylan being the change collar he is currently, changed me to what my brain wanted… Well, at least I know how I can change back to myself now, but the question is…do I want to?’

It was a valid question for Emma. She knew that she needed to eventually find a way to confront her emotions and feelings about her inanimate husband, but did she have to at this moment. ‘You know what, I’m gonna give this body a try for a bit and see how much fun being a cat can truly be. Tomorrow I can change back.’ So with her mind made up, Emma jumped down from the sink and strutted her small cat body out of the bathroom and back towards the kitchen.  It was difficult at first, but after a couple of attempts, she somehow managed to crack open the fridge just enough to reach in it the rest of the way. She then proceeded to scoot the milk jug out of the fridge and onto the floor, but as it landed, the bottle cap shot off and milk began leaking all onto the floor. Emma just simply shrugged. ‘Eh, I’ll clean this up later. I just want some of that amazing milk!’  She said in her head as she stepped over to where the puddle of milk was, and started lapping up as much of it as possible.

‘Mmm, this is so delicious as a cat. To human me this is just plain old milk, but as a cat, it’s the tastiest drink ever!’  She said to herself as she continued licking up the milk. She found it strange how quickly she had adapted to life as a cat. How she instinctively new how to drink the milk, or how coordinated she was when walking on all fours and jumping from spot to spot. She assumed it had to be a built in feature that the collar had to give its subject the basic motor functions of its new form. She mentally thanked Dylan for making her into such a wonderful cat, as she skipped over to the living room and jumped up on the couch to curl up in a comfy ball to take a nap. ‘Today is going to be amazing.’ She said before dozing off.

Once she woke from her nap, Emma through the rest of the morning tried to zone out her human brain and just go with the flow of being a cat. She would walk around the living room occasionally stopping in corners to scratch the walls or lick her fur. Every now and then she would have this overwhelming desire to chase this yellow ball that was left out in the living room. She didn’t know why she would, but catching it was always satisfying. Life as a cat was great.

But as the morning turned to the afternoon, Emma got bored and didn’t know what else to do as a cat other than destroys walls, or chase a ball. Knowing she still had the change collar on, she decided she wanted to test a different animal out for the rest of the afternoon, but she didn’t quite know which one.  As she thought through all the options she had, she didn’t realize that thinking about being each animal transformed her into them briefly. Just like that, she went from being a cat, to being all sorts of creatures. From a cat, she transformed into a snake, a hippo, a miniature pony, and then into a turtle, before stopping briefly as a parakeet. That’s when she finally made up her mind on what new animal she wanted to try being, and as she thought about how her body would look, the collar worked it’s magic, and soon Emma was hopping around the living room floor on her new adorable grey bunny feet.

And that’s the form Emma kept for much of the day.  She really enjoyed how soft and plush her fur felt, and hopping around on her incredibly strong hind legs proved to be a lot of fun.  She made it a challenge to see what the highest peace of furniture she could hop onto was. She had managed to work her way up all the way to her kitchen countertop before things got really difficult.  Try as she might, she just couldn’t make the giant leap, and it was aggravating her quite a bit. So she decided to put all her strength into one last attempt, but she underestimated how close she was to one of their barstools and as soon as she jumped she smacked her tiny rabbit head right into the bottom of the stool and came crashing down to the ground with a thud.

Dazed, and in immense pain from the accident, Emma was sobbing as she felt like one of her back legs was broken. She tried to get up on all fours again, but a jolt of pain surged from her injured leg, and so she laid back down, wondering what she could possibly do to fix this. How could she have been so careless? As she was running through ideas in her mind, she thought about maybe changing forms and seeing if that would helprelieve the pain. But what kind of creature doesn’t feel as much pain?  Then an idea hit her. Kai never said she had to change into a real creature. So why not something more fantastical like something out of a video game or folk lore?

Emma went through her vast video game and D&D knowledge and then she remembered a specific creature she had encountered while on a Dungeons and Dragon quest a while back that would work perfectly.  So she laid on the floor thinking of the new form she wanted, still grimacing in pain.  But after a couple seconds of mentally picturing her new form, the pain subsided, and soon she was feeling normal once again.  Well, as normal as an amorphous blue blob can be that is.  Emma was stunned that her plan had worked, and was even more amazed by how her new anatomy felt.

No longer was she a creature that existed in the normal world, now she was a gelatinous blob, slowly moving from the kitchen to the living room.  Even though she could see still, she no longer had anything resembling eyes… Or even a nose or mouth for that matter.  As she kept rolling along the floor, she could feel every particle of dust and dirt that her gel like body would collect as she moved, and surprisingly, she noticed that her new form would simply break down the particles and turn them into nutrients for her new body.  She thought it would be disgusting to digest dirt, but oddly enough, she thought it felt and tasted amazing!

But as she approached the living room couch, she started questioning what else this form could do other than digest dust.  She thought hard about reforming her body into something else, but as she felt her gelatinous form shift a bit she got too excited and  lost focus, causing her body to flop down into a gooey pile on the ground. Determined to get this right, she thought harder this time about the form she wanted to morph her gel body into, and soon enough she felt her form reshape, and as she stopped focusing she looked down to discover that her blue translucent form now resembled the same kind of bunny she was previously.  Next She tested out if she could move like a normal bunny, but unfortunately as she tried to hop, her body flipped down once again into a shapeless blob.

Disappointed, Emma slowly crawled back to the kitchen not really sure what to do in her new form. As she approached the puddle of milk from earlier in the morning, Emma freaked out as she remembered something. What happened to her collar? She stopped on top of the puddle, trying to see if it was floating inside her gel body, but she didn’t see anything. ‘Crap! Did I digest my collar. Wait, did I just eat Dylan?’

Emma was panicking at this point. She tried to think of a new creature to turn into, hoping maybe she would turn into something else, but nothing happened. Now she was really worried. Not only did she potentially lose/eat her collar/husband, but now she might be stuck as some pathetic blue blob. Would Kai even recognize her like this? As she sulked, she noticed a shiny object a little bit away from her near the counter.  As she started crawling towards it, she was relieved to see that the shiny object was her collar. It must have fallen off as she transformed into her new form.

Now that she felt better about not potentially killing her husband and being stuck in her current form, she started crawling up to the collar, wanting to change into something more exciting. But as she crept closer to the collar, Emma started noticing something.  Was she getting bigger? As she looked over her blue form, she discovered that she had in fact grown from a tiny softball sized blob into the size of a volleyball. She quickly looked back at where the puddle of milk was, and noticed it was completely gone. ‘Whoa, so the more I absorb, the bigger I get? Maybe this form can be fun after all.’ She thought to herself as she slowly crept towards the pantry.

For the rest of the day, Emma stayed as a gelatinous blob. But after a trip inside the pantry and absorbing several pieces of furniture (which left the living room pretty empty) Emma was now a staggering 7 feet in height, and dwarfed just about everything in her house.  Through her adventures as a blob, she discovered a few new things. One, she figured out she could manipulate her form to slip through extremely tiny cracks, which helped a lot when she tried getting into the pantry.  Second, she discovered that her new form can exist even if split into several parts.  She discovered this during a scary mishap with a steak knife that chopped her in half. And lastly, she had discovered that different materials had differing tastes.  She thought dust still taste good, but now she was addicted to the taste of wood. For some reason, wood was the most delectable matter she could absorb and she wanted to eat as much of it as possible. Meanwhile, rubber was oddly the most off putting taste she had encountered so far. It wasn’t bad, but the texture as it dissolved felt weird. Never the less, Emma was still amazed at the range of materials she could slurp up as a blob. So far, nothing has proven to be impossible for her to digest.

As the day winded down, Emma had done just about everything she possibly could as a blob. She had eaten so much of their furniture and food, and had spent so much time reshaping into just about any shape she could think of. But she knew the day was coming to an end, and she started wondering what that would mean for her. Does she even need sleep anymore? She definitely didn’t feel tired as a blob. As a matter of fact, she hadn’t felt tired once throughout the day. And then another thought hit her as she saw the familiar white collar sitting on the ground in front of her. Did she even want to change back to human?

It was a serious question she pondered for a while. Why go back to being human. All that would bring is a body that had so many irrational emotions and constantly ran out of energy. In this form, she was rather lacking of emotions. She still felt excitement, and curiousity, but gone were the scary thoughts of sadness and anger.  They simply didn’t exist as a blob. Plus, she never ran out of energy and would always have a source of nutrients so she had a hard time seeing a downside.

Still though, Emma collected the white collar into her form, and headed upstairs towards her bedroom. She kept the collar floating at the center of her shapeless form, and made sure she didn’t absorb it as she approached her bedroom door. Once there, she quickly and easily slipped her new form under the door and went over to her bed where she deposited the collar and stared at it for a while, still pondering her decision on whether to be human or stay a blob.

Before she could make her decision though, she heard some shuffling from the bathroom, and then a familiar voice rung out. “Hello! Is someone out there? Is that you Emma? It’s me, Jess. Listen, I could really use your help if you don’t mind.”
Emma realized hearing Jess’s voice that she had forgotten all about Kai going into their bathroom mirror the night prior. But why was Hess the one asking for help and not Kai? And why did it sound like she was out of the mirror now?

No matter, Emma decided to head towards the bathroom to see if she could help Jess with whatever she needed, leaving behind the collar. As she slipped under the door, she spotted Jess’s giant floating head, wedged against the corner of their sink’s countertop and mirror, and internally laughed at how funny she looked. Meanwhile, Jess was stunned when instead of seeing Emma walk into the bathroom she saw a blue slimy mass ooze into the bathroom. “Eww, you’re not Emma…are you?”

For a moment, Emma tried responding with a yes or a head shake, but she couldn’t do either in her current form. So she thought of an idea, and soon Emma was transforming into an exact replica of her human body, just now blue and transparent. She then gave Jess a quick wave and a smile to show that it was in fact her. “Jess marveled at the beautiful, abstract art show she had just witness. “Wow, that really is you. I don’t know how you transformed into this form, but you are making it work girl! Dylan would be so proud of your creativity.”

Emma timidly smiled at the compliment. “Anyways, back to the issue at hand. As you can see, I’m now a super large, floating head, wedged in a corner and stuck outside of my mirror home.  Kai is now stuck, with the wand, in stasis inside the mirror because I accidentally shut it off.  If you could move me, I can try to flip the switch to the mirror so it can turn back on, but I can’t do that while stuck like this. Could you help me out?”  Emma gave Jess an approving nod, and quickly walked over to Jess and reformed back into a giant blob.  She then leaned over to wear Jess was stuck, and carefully began to pull Jess’s massive head into her form. Jess tried expressing her fascination with the process, but found her speech muffled inside her friends gelatinous form.  Once she was freed, Emma released Jess to float above the ground. “Thanks Emma. That was bizarre yet so cool at the same time. I might have to try being a blob sometime if I don’t make it back into the mirror.  But anyways, let’s get the mirror back on and see what the damage is shall we?” Jess floated over to the switch on the wall, and with her tongue, flipped the switch, bringing the mirror back online. What they saw in the reflection of the mirror though was not what they had expected at all.
