It had been four months since Jake ceased to exist and became Jacklin. Everything had changed the night his sister made that powerful wish—the one that erased her brother from reality.
But the Wishing Stone had not been able to erase him completely. Instead, it rewrote him. Jake’s old body was regressed, reshaped, and sent back into his mother’s womb, while his identity was rewritten into the world as Jacklin, the new twin sister. To everyone else, Jake had never existed. There had only ever been two twin girls growing up together.
And yet, the stone had preserved fragments of Jake’s influence. Before the wish that changed everything, past-Jake had made one final wish: that some of his good deeds and blessings would carry over, no matter what happened. That safeguard worked.
The family still enjoyed incredible good luck. His old friend’s family, once broken, remained whole and happy. And the permanent blessing that guaranteed perfect grades carried over as well—though now it was shared between both sisters.
From the outside, life seemed perfect. The family was stronger than ever, the sisters happy and healthy. No one in the entire world remembered Jake; to them, there had only ever been Jacklin.
But Jacklin remembered.
Not clearly—not as Jake—but through haunting dreams. Almost every night, she relived the horrible scene: the sound of the train, the blinding impact, the sensation of her body turning to dust. She would wake up gasping, clutching her sheets, heart racing in terror.
It was a cruel side effect of the massive wish her sister had made. The rest of the world had forgotten, but she carried the memory buried deep inside her.
Still, Jacklin tried to move on. Whenever the nightmares weighed too heavily, she reminded herself of what she had now—a loving twin sister at her side, and the knowledge that soon their family would be welcoming a new baby brother into the world. Thinking about the future dulled the sting of the past, at least for a little while.
On the surface, everything seemed like it had reached a happy ending.
But there was one detail no one had noticed. When the Wishing Stone dissolved that night, not all of it vanished. Its remains seeped into a toy wand that had been left lying on the floor—a simple plaything, forgotten by everyone.
Unseen, the wand shimmered faintly with a pink glow.
The story wasn’t over.
End of Part 5.
