June 14th — First Day at Camp Evergreen
Well, today was… unexpected.
When I signed up for this summer gig, the posting just said: "Camp Evergreen — summer fun, outdoor activities, meals included, great pay."
Nowhere in the listing did it say “gay summer camp.” I figured it was just your standard camp — smores, mosquitoes, and awkward icebreakers.
The drive in was beautiful. Trees, sunshine, that crisp lake smell. I pull up to the main lodge and see this huge banner: "Welcome to Evergreen Pride!" Lots of rainbow streamers, some glittery flags… and a guy in short shorts with a megaphone shouting, “Happy first day, my gorgeous campers!” I thought maybe they were just celebrating Pride Month early. Nope. Whole camp is gay camp.
It clicked when I met the rest of the staff — about twenty people, all super friendly and way more fashionable than me. Introductions were like speed dating without the dating. People were complimenting my shirt (just a plain blue T-shirt, mind you) and I heard the phrase “Oh, he’s cute!” at least twice, which no one has said to me since college.
Morning activities? I helped set up for tie-dye T-shirt making. Thought I’d be in the background, but somehow I ended up with three guys asking me if I’d model theirs once it was done.
Lunch was grilled veggies and quinoa burgers — way better than I expected for camp food. Sat with a group who debated whether “watermelon mojito” was an acceptable Gatorade flavor for themed cocktail night (which is apparently tomorrow).
The afternoon was… eye-opening. Pool time. I was on lifeguard duty, which sounds chill — except it turns out this is a clothing-optional pool. No one went fully without clothes today, but let’s just say I’ve seen more Speedos in one afternoon than in my entire life combined.
By dinner, I’d stopped feeling out of place. People are funny, loud, and just… themselves here. No one’s trying to be “cool” — they’re just having a blast. I got invited to join the staff for “Drag Bingo” later this week. Still not sure what that is, but I said yes.
Honestly? I think I’m going to like it here.
Even if I didn’t exactly plan for it.

June 15th — Day 2
Today was my first real day interacting with the campers instead of just hauling equipment around.
First thing I learned: these people are way more outgoing than any group I’ve ever met. Everyone wants to talk, everyone wants to joke, everyone seems like they’ve known each other for years even if they just met yesterday. I also learned a cruel truth: a lot of the really hot women here? Lesbians.
Now, I’m not oblivious. I know I’m at Gay Camp, but part of my brain still went, “Hey, maybe one or two of them might like me.” Nope. Spent half the morning at the lake with a group of girls who were laughing about their ex-girlfriends. Every time I thought I was making a little connection, they’d casually throw in, “…yeah, my girlfriend says the same thing.” Ouch.
Then there’s Naomi. Oh man. Naomi is… something else. She’s this stunning Hispanic girl with dark wavy hair, deep brown eyes, and a smile that hits you like sunshine. And her figure — I mean, she’s got that perfect hourglass shape that could make traffic stop. Big chest, small waist, curves for days. She wears these cutoff shorts and tank tops that I swear could start a war.
She’s also — you guessed it — 100% lesbian. She told me within about ten minutes of meeting her, like she’s used to breaking hearts early. We were both handing out paddles for the canoeing activity when she casually mentioned her girlfriend back home, who “has the most beautiful green eyes.” I smiled and nodded while internally crumbling like a sandcastle in the tide.
Still, she’s cool to hang out with. Funny, sarcastic, and somehow makes every boring chore more fun. We ended up spending a lot of time together today because she volunteered us both for “buddy duty,” which is basically making sure campers don’t wander off into the woods unsupervised.
By the end of the day, I was laughing more than sulking. Even if Naomi will never see me that way, I can’t be mad about having her as a friend. Plus, she promised to teach me how to make “real” tacos one night this week.
Camp lesson learned: sometimes, the people you wish you could date end up being the ones you’re just glad to know.

June 27th — Day 12
Okay, so I seriously can’t believe how much has happened since last week. I’ve barely had time to even write because every single day feels like three days in one. Between paddleboard yoga (yes, it’s a thing, and yes, I fell in the lake twice), campfire sing-alongs, and late-night kitchen raids for leftover brownies, I feel like I’ve been living in my own little queer sitcom.
Naomi has been on fire lately — not literally (although she did nearly set her marshmallow stick ablaze last night). She’s just… I don’t know. Everything she says is hilarious. And she looked so good yesterday in that floral sundress I almost spilled my iced coffee just looking at her. Ugh. Why does she have to be so perfect and also completely uninterested in me? It’s so unfair.
Also, I swear she’s been spending more time with this new girl, Dani, and I’m happy for her… but also maybe a little jealous? Not in a weird way — okay maybe a little in a weird way — but they were laughing together at lunch today and I got that little pang in my stomach like, “Wow, I wish that was me making her laugh like that.”
Oh, and big news: Tasha and Rae finally kissed last night during Truth or Dare! Everyone freaked out and cheered, and now they’re officially the camp’s new power couple. I swear, you can feel the tension every time they walk into the dining hall together. It’s like watching a rom-com play out in real time.
Anyway, tomorrow is the lip-sync battle and Naomi is performing. I’m already planning to sit front row. Not just to cheer her on (obviously I will), but because she’s doing Shakira, and I need to see this in my life.
P.S. I’m wearing my denim shorts tomorrow because Naomi said they “look cute” on me last week and honestly? I’m still thinking about it.

June 30th — Day 15
Okay babes, I don’t even know where to start because the last three days have been a lot. Like… peak gay chaos but in the best way possible.
I’ve basically been glued to the girl crew lately — Naomi (obviously), Dani, Tasha, and Rae. We’ve been doing everything together: lake swims, late-night tarot readings, random Target runs for “essential” snacks (which somehow turned into buying matching crop tops??). Honestly, hanging with them just hits different.
Also — side note — my favorite pair of shorts are fitting weird lately. I think the dryer’s shrinking stuff again because they’re snug on the hips but loose in the waist? Whatever, it’s fine, I kinda like the shape it gives me. Makes my legs look good.
Naomi was a total menace yesterday. She kept splashing me in the lake until I finally tackled her, and then Dani was like, “Wow, that was so gay of you two,” and Naomi just winked. Dead. I’m still thinking about it.
And omg — we all had an impromptu nail-painting night in the cabin. I told them I’d just “watch,” but somehow I walked out with sparkly teal nails because “it matches your eyes, Wade.” Which… okay, yes, it does. They weren’t wrong.
Anyway, tomorrow we’re all going to this little trail by the lake that Naomi says has the most romantic sunset view. She said it’s her “favorite date spot” and then looked at me all teasing. I swear, if I was into girls the way these girls are into girls… okay, maybe I am a little? Idk, don’t come for me.
Also? My chest has been feeling kinda sore lately. Probably from all the swimming.

July 8th — My Wannabe Diary
Aight so, first off — yes, I’m callin’ this my “wannabe diary” now ‘cause I been writin’ in it every damn night like one of them messy TikTok lesbians spillin’ tea. And I don’t even care, boo, ‘cause this my therapy.
So yo… I been goin’ through somethin’. Like, my shorts? Ain’t even tryna lie — they straight up quit on me this week. Couldn’t even get ‘em past my hips without feelin’ like I was tryna stuff a whole watermelon in a sock. Dani was laughin’ so hard she almost peed, and Naomi just shook her head like, “Mmm, girl, we gon’ get you somethin’ that fits.” So now I got a whole bag of hand-me-down booty shorts and leggings from the girls. They cute tho.
And don’t even get me started on my shape right now — I swear I been squattin’ in my sleep ‘cause my booty lookin’ like it could cause a traffic jam. Like, who even am I? But whatever, I’m livin’.
Oh! And now I’m stayin’ in Naomi’s cabin ‘cause last night’s bonfire got a little too wild and somehow set my old cabin’s porch on fire. (Don’t ask — let’s just say s’mores and drunk counselors don’t mix.) So now I’m sharin’ space with the girl squad. Which means I been wakin’ up to Rae blastin’ Beyoncé, Naomi walkin’ around in them tiny tank tops, and Dani tryna braid my hair even though I told her I don’t know how to sit still that long.
We been havin’ so much fun tho. Last night we stayed up late playin’ Uno and talkin’ about “the hottest fictional women” and baby… lemme tell you… I was fightin’ for my girl Lara Croft like my life depended on it.
Anyway, I’m thinkin’ ‘bout rockin’ my tight black leggings tomorrow with that cropped hoodie Naomi gave me. She said it makes my “ass look dangerous” and honey… I ain’t about to argue.

July 14th — My Diary (Brielle’s World)
Mmm baby, lemme tell you somethin’… last night? Lawd have mercy.
First off, for the record — my name is Brielle Monét now. Don’t even ask me where I came from before camp ‘cause I been here. Always been here. Ain’t no “before” — just me, my girls, and this wild, beautiful summer. Folks think I’m just another camper, and honestly? I’m cool with that. Staff be doin’ too much work anyway.
So… Naomi. Girl, I been feelin’ her since day one, but last night? We finally got some time alone — no Dani, no Rae, no interruptions. Just me and her sittin’ on that dock, watchin’ the moon hit the lake. She had on this silky little tank, and I swear, every time she leaned in to talk, I could smell that coconut body lotion she uses. Whew.
We started talkin’ ‘bout everything — life, love, dumb exes — and then she just… slid her hand into mine like it was the most natural thing in the world. Next thing I know, we’re laughin’ ‘bout nothin’, our faces gettin’ closer, and then boom — lips on lips. Soft, slow at first, then real deep. My heart was racin’ like I just ran laps, but my legs were wrapped ‘round her like they’d been waitin’ their whole life for this moment.
We stayed out there way past curfew, whisperin’ and touchin’ like the whole world didn’t exist ‘cept for us. I don’t even care if anyone saw us sneakin’ back — let ‘em talk.
This morning, Naomi texted me a lil’ heart emoji and “Can’t wait for tonight 😉” so yeah… I’mma be wearin’ that bodycon skirt that makes my hips look illegal.
Life’s too short not to enjoy every damn drop, and baby, I’m sippin’ slow.

Epilogue
Brielle’s last week at camp was everything a perfect summer ending should be — warm nights, inside jokes, and the kind of laughter that left her cheeks sore. She and Naomi were practically joined at the hip by then. They swam together in the mornings, snuck off for sunset walks in the evenings, and danced at every campfire like nobody was watching (even though everybody was).
By now, no one saw Brielle as “that new girl.” She was simply Brielle Monét — the girl with the mile-wide smile, the infectious energy, and curves that could make a statue blush. The campers adored her, the staff loved her, and Naomi… well, Naomi couldn’t take her eyes off her.
The day camp ended, saying goodbye was bittersweet. There were tears, promises to visit, and more than a few cheeky comments about how Brielle and Naomi should “just make it official already.” Naomi gave her one last long kiss in the parking lot before Brielle drove away — but that wasn’t the end. Not even close.
They texted constantly after camp. Then came the phone calls, then the weekend visits, until finally Naomi just said, “Why don’t you move in?” Brielle didn’t even hesitate. Within a month, she was unpacking boxes in Naomi’s apartment, both of them grinning like fools.
Life together was easy — the good kind of easy. They cooked together, binge-watched reality TV, hit the gym as each other’s workout hype partners, and never missed a Sunday brunch with friends. Speaking of friends, their crew eventually gave them a nickname that stuck: “Tits & Ass.” Naomi owned the “tits” part with her legendary chest, and Brielle wore the “ass” crown proudly thanks to her signature bottom-heavy shape. The two leaned into the joke, even getting matching coffee mugs that said it in big, bold letters.
Years later, they still laughed about meeting at camp — neither of them knowing just how life-changing one summer would be. For Brielle Monét, it wasn’t just a season of fun. It was the summer she found her person.
