The Bratty Tune

As Colin wiped dust off the shelves in his daughter’s bedroom, a burst of static crackled from the old radio she had left on. He frowned, reaching for the dial to switch stations, but the moment his fingers brushed the knob, an eerie voice slithered through the speakers.

"You have tuned into a new life... Enjoy the ride!"

Before Colin could react, a strange tingling sensation shot through his fingertips, rushing up his arms and spreading through his entire body. His vision blurred as the room seemed to spin, his legs wobbling beneath him. Then, an intense wave of dizziness struck, knocking him onto his knees. His skin prickled with a sensation both icy and searing at the same time, like his very essence was being rewritten.

His hands—once rough from years of hard work—shrunk, becoming dainty and smooth, nails lengthening into perfectly manicured pink tips. He gasped, but the sound that escaped his lips was higher, breathy, undeniably feminine. A tickling sensation cascaded down his back as his once short, graying hair flowed past his shoulders in long, silky waves, dyed in streaks of platinum blonde and bubblegum pink.

His clothes felt looser, then tighter in all the wrong places. His broad shoulders caved inward, his frame shrinking as his torso narrowed into a slender, youthful shape. A sudden pressure built around his hips, forcing them to widen dramatically as his jeans morphed into a miniskirt that barely covered his new curves. His chest tingled, warmth pooling there as soft, perky breasts pushed outward beneath a cropped, designer tank top.

The strangest change, however, was in his mind. Thoughts of responsibilities, bills, and fatherhood melted away like a forgotten dream, replaced by an overwhelming sense of self-importance. Why should she have to clean this gross room? Someone else should do it! Ugh, her nails were gonna break! Her lips pouted instinctively, her posture shifting into a slouchy stance of pure teenage entitlement.

By the time the transformation ended, Colin—no, Chloe—stood there, twirling her hair between her fingers, scowling at the mess around her. The door swung open, revealing Natalie, her eldest daughter, who stopped dead in her tracks.

"Uh… Who the hell are you?" Natalie asked, raising a perfectly shaped eyebrow.

Chloe crossed her arms and huffed. "Duh, I'm your twin, obviously! God, Nat, don’t be such a loser."

Natalie blinked in disbelief, but the reality of the situation settled into place almost too easily. Colin no longer existed—at least, not in any permanent sense. The bratty, self-absorbed teenage girl standing in his place was now an undeniable part of the family.

However, there was one glimmer of his old self left. Once a week, for exactly one hour, Chloe could revert back to being Colin—a grown man, a father, if only temporarily. But as each day passed, it became harder and harder to remember why he would ever want to… being Chloe was so much more fun.
