Jessica walked briskly back to her hotel, the weight of her shopping bag swinging at her side. The night air was cool, and the dim glow of streetlights barely illuminated the empty sidewalk. Wanting to save time, she took a shortcut through a narrow alleyway, her footsteps echoing against the brick walls.
She didn't see them at first—the figures lurking in the shadows—until it was too late. A hand clamped over her mouth, silencing her scream as multiple arms seized her, dragging her deeper into the darkness. She kicked and thrashed, her heart pounding in terror, but there were too many of them. Their whispers surrounded her, their touch cold and unnatural. Jessica's strength failed her as the darkness consumed her, pulling her into its suffocating embrace.
A strange sensation crawled through her body, starting at her core and radiating outward. Her skin prickled and burned, as if tiny embers danced beneath the surface. A deep, unnatural heat built within her bones, twisting and reshaping them. She gasped, her breath hitching as her fingers curled, claws sprouting from her nails. The change surged through her spine, forcing her to arch in agony as her vertebrae stretched and extended into a long, bushy tail.
Jessica whimpered, her ears tingling as they elongated, moving higher atop her head and sharpening into pointed, fur-covered tips. A thick layer of silky red fur spread across her body, soft yet alien, the color blending into creamy white around her chest and belly. Her nose and mouth pushed forward, her teeth sharpening into delicate fangs as her face molded into a vulpine snout.
Her clothes strained against her new form, barely containing the lithe, elegant shape she had become. Her senses sharpened—the scent of the damp alley, the distant hum of city life, the heartbeat of something scurrying nearby. Everything felt overwhelming, instinctual, raw.
Jessica staggered, struggling to balance on her shifting legs. Her feet reshaped, heels lifting as her legs became digitigrade, more suited for an animal than a human. Her mind swirled with confusion, with foreign urges she couldn't control. The chill of the night air made her fur bristle, her tail twitching in agitation.
She clenched her teeth, a deep growl rising in her throat. She knew—deep inside—that she could never go back. She wasn’t human anymore.
She pulled the hood of her cloak over her vulpine ears, concealing as much of herself as possible. She had to get back to the hotel, gather her things, and figure out what to do next. But how long could she hide what she had become? How long before instinct took over completely?
As the city lights flickered in the distance, Jessica took a shaky step forward, the first of many in her strange new life.
