Kandy-What she looks like

Stephanie took a deep breath as she parked her car in front of Matthew's house. It was her turn with the kids, and while she loved spending time with them, the exchanges at her ex-husband's home were always fraught with tension. Today, however, she felt an unusual sense of unease.

Walking up the path to the front door, Stephanie couldn't help but notice the well-manicured lawn and blooming flowers. Matthew had always been meticulous about appearances, a trait she once admired but now found irritating. She knocked on the door, the sound echoing slightly in the quiet neighborhood.

After a few moments, the door swung open, and Stephanie was met with a familiar, unwelcome face. Kandy, Matthew's new wife, stood in the doorway, her expression already set in a disdainful sneer.

"What do you want, Stephanie?" Kandy's tone was icy, a stark contrast to the warmth of the day.

"I'm here to pick up the kids," Stephanie replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "It's my turn."

Kandy folded her arms across her chest, blocking the entrance with her body. "They're not ready yet. You'll have to wait."

Stephanie felt her temper flare. "I'm supposed to pick them up at 4:00. It's 4:15."

"Well, maybe if you were a bit more understanding, things would go smoother," Kandy shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Understanding?" Stephanie's voice rose, incredulous. "I've been more than understanding. This is about the kids, not us."

Kandy rolled her eyes. "Of course you'd make it about you. Always the martyr."

Stephanie stepped closer, her patience wearing thin. "This isn't about me. It's about sticking to the schedule for the sake of the children. Where is Matthew?"

"He's busy," Kandy snapped. "Unlike you, he actually has responsibilities."

"Don't you dare talk to me about responsibilities," Stephanie countered, her eyes narrowing. "I'm their mother. I have every right to see them."

The two women glared at each other, the air thick with unresolved animosity.

As Stephanie continued to argue, her gaze inadvertently fell upon the swaying motion of the pocket watch in Kandy's hand. Mesmerized by its rhythmic movement, her voice faltered, her arguments becoming disjointed.

"What... what are you doing?" Stephanie's words came out in a dazed whisper as she felt herself being pulled into a trance-like state.

Kandy's laughter echoed in the air, cold and triumphant. "Just a little trick I picked up," she taunted, the pocket watch continuing its hypnotic sway. "Relax, Stephanie. You're so much easier to deal with when you're quiet."

Stephanie's resistance crumbled under the hypnotic spell, her mind foggy and compliant. She stood there, silent and motionless, as Kandy smirked victoriously. The argument had been won, not through words, but through manipulation and deceit.
