This story was inspired by the classic tale of "The Clemency of Scipio", in which Scipio Africanus rejected the gift of a beautiful woman brought to him by his soldiers, and instead returned her to her family. Keen-eyed readers will have seen that this takes place in the same setting as this story from last year. Figured if I was going to do another story with a vaguely Roman Empire-themed polity running around, might as well be the same setting.
