“Burn away the weaklings who would betray our people to the invaders. Burn away the taint of the alien and all their works. Burn Heleus clean for the Day of Renewal. Burn it all!”

A notable and disturbing distinction between this latest incarnation of the Roekaar from the original group has been their eagerness to target fellow angara in their xenophobic crusade. Whereas Akksul’s movement collapsed in no small part due to his followers’ disgust at his attempted murder of Jaal Ama Darav, the new Roekaar is all too willing to subject other angara to the same ruthless tactics it employs against alien species, all seemingly without dissent from within its ranks. This brutality is not limited to armed combatants either. Angaran settlements throughout Heleus are routinely targeted, their populations eradicated for the crime of “impurity”, while numerous archeological excavations, temples and other sites of cultural significance have likewise been consigned to oblivion in a firestorm of revolutionary violence. For this new Roekaar, the campaign to bring the entire angaran species beneath their banner, through either persuasion or naked conquest, is just as critical as their goal of exterminating all non-angaran life, and significant resources and personnel have been committed across the Heleus Cluster to that end.

The Iconoclasts are a key feature of this effort. Their numbers drawn from the most disciplined and merciless from amongst the Roekaar’s ranks, they serve primarily as the Roekaar’s cultural enforcers, enforcing the organization’s unbending dogma upon both civilian subjects and fellow fighters, hunting down dissenters and exacting harsh punishments against any who dare oppose them. When the Roekaar secure new territories, Iconoclasts will frequently join the administrative units assigned to govern these areas, and begin examining the local angaran communities for signs of “impurity”. Intercepted transmissions suggest that within hours of the Roekaar establishing control, a systemic examination of any and all subject populations will be conducted, thorough, efficient and utterly without mercy. Those who pass the Roekaar’s standards of genetic and cultural purity will be permitted to live, either supporting the organization through their labour or earmarked as recruits for their fighting forces. The vast majority, however, are condemned by the Iconoclasts onto mass pyres for any number of perceived offenses, including the possession of Milky Way technology, sexual congress with non-angarans or “failure to obey a moral superior.” APEX and Resistance recon sweeps around Havarl have discovered entire villages and even larger daara left utterly abandoned by these pogroms, their inhabitants either forcibly relocated to Roekaar strongholds or slaughtered and left to burn in the centre square, and initial estimates suggest that thousands of innocent angara have fallen victim.

Yet it would be a mistake to assume the Iconoclasts are mere inquisitors, for they take to battle with the same zealous ferocity that is so universal amongst the new Roekaar. Serving as the organization’s heavy shock troops, the flamethrowers they use on the “impure” are capable weapons in combat, and one they are more than eager to turn upon enemy bunkers and strongpoints. While their heavy armour does offer them considerable protection, sustained fire will breach the fuel tanks for their flamethrowers and cause a massive explosion, a weakness APEX marksmen are encouraged to exploit whenever possible.
