When Emile woke up one Saturday morning, he somehow knew it was going to be a bad day. Emile was a statistical anomaly when it came to bad luck. Every day in Toon Town was a struggle for the boy, to the point where he was transformed into a living plushie toon for his own survival. But even then, he could hardly go a day without some kind of change coming his way. Sometimes, there was a reason, such as an anvil squashing him flat. Sometimes there was no explanation, like the numerous times he found himself as the panties of Janice, the fat hippo lady that ran the game store.
The short green doll looked at himself in the mirror but nothing seemed out of the ordinary (for a living toy toon) and so he braved the outside world to go to the doughnut shop. For the first five minutes, nothing bad happened. Then, as he passed an alley containing some tough-guy toons, one of then grabbed something behind Emile’s back as Emile kept walking, unaware of anything out of the ordinary.
That is, until the toon, a gangster gorilla, let go.
“Tee hee! I like wearing women’s clothes and to dress up like a baby dolly!” Emile shouted, much to his shock. It wasn’t true but something made him scream that at the top of his lungs. Looking around, he not only noticed people starring at him, including a gangster bear, gorilla and bulldog laughing in the alley, but he saw some kind of pull string retreating into his back.
“That wasn’t there before” Emile thought in fear, “another random transformation, then?”
As if to confirm what was going on, the bulldog then pulled the string again.
“Somebody please beat me up!” Emile shouted, despite trying to cover his mouth.
“Happy to oblige,” the bear said with a grin.
With a mousey squeak, Emile ran away from the bullies as fast as his legs would take him, which wasn’t very fast; he has stumpy little legs and a dumpy, doughy body. Still, he toddled and wobbled away from the rapidly-gaining goons until he jumped though a hole in a wooden fence. The bad guys were too big to fit through and so Emile was able to escape. Oh, but what a place he found himself in! It looked like some kind of spooked swamp hut right in the middle of the city! As Emile tentatively wandered further into the back yard, he hadn’t noticed his pull string get caught on a nail, that is, until it came loose.
“Oopsie daisy, I just peed myself, like I do all the time!”
At that sudden noise, a dog, big black and mean-looking, ran towards the living chew toy, only stopped by a chain pulling taut at the last second. Then an old green woman in a pointed hat stepped out the black door and clapped her hands which put the dog to sleep.
“Um…thank you ma’am. Can you also get rid of my pull string?”
“I can, dear, but magic is chaotic. You may not like the results.”
“I’d like to try it anyway.”
With a nod, the witch clapped her hands a second time and Emile found himself in a familiar form, in a familiar place with a familiar person.
“Hello, Emile” Janice said, “Back so soon?”
