(Men and Woman to Multiple Fictional Canines)
“‘Disney’… ‘Dogs’…” Peter read aloud, looking to his friends with a bemused smile on his face. Of all the Disney memorabilia they’d found in his Aunt Cindy’s attic, this VHS had to be one of the most curious. It, along with ‘Disney Cats’, ‘Disney Wild Kingdom’, and ‘Disney Magical Creatures’ were all tapes that he didn’t recognize, and he’d thought he’d seen all of his aunt’s tapes with her.
“Hey, are you sure it’s a good idea to go through your aunt’s attic like this?” Eric asked anxiously, looking up to Peter. The young man was loyal to a fault, and rooting through the boxes of belongings didn’t sit well with him, even if Peter had sworn his aunt was okay with it.
“Totally-we’re here to take a break before our graduation trip, right? It’s just like old times.” Peter chuckled, before turning towards another of his friends. “Hey, Alice! You recognize these tapes?” He asked, lifting the cassette in his hand, gripping the ladder with his other hand. The VHS cassettes had been tucked up behind a beam, unlike the rest of the Disney memorabilia they’d been rummaging through.
“From that title? No.” Alice shook her head, resting a hand on her hip. “But I can’t really make it out from here.”
“You’re right.” Peter pulled back his arm, intending to pitch the tape to her like it was a ball. He’d been captain of his team, and he figured he could softly fling it over. But the girl flinched, so he tossed the tape to Jim instead.
The linebacker yelped, dropping his cool demeanor to fumble at the air, nearly dropping it. A blush crossed his face as he realized Alice had seen his near-failure. “Hey! Watch it, I’m not a receiver.” Struggling to regain some composure, he curled an arm, showing off his muscles. “I’m a front-liner, too busy fighting to go for balls. That came out wrong.”
“Smooth.” Alice laughed, taking the tape from his hands. Peter’s Aunt had a good deal of Disney memorabilia, but this was something she didn’t recognize. That was especially odd, given that she was a closeted Disney fangirl. “I… don’t know what this is, actually.”
For a moment, the group milled about in an uneasy silence, the kind born from young adults having plenty to think on but little to say. Then, Peter assumed his traditional role as team leader, briskly hopping from the ladder to land before Alice. He winked to her, knowing Jim was bristling behind his back.
“Let’s leave the other videos there for now, and check this out.” He grinned, plucking the tape from her hands. “I bet it’s one of our old sing-alongs, it’ll be fun for a watch.”
“E-I-E-I-O!” Eric sang after him, following his friend to the TV. As usual, his attempt at a joke went unacknowledged, and as usual he shrugged. “Nobody? Come on, one of these days you’ll have to at least crack a smile.”
“Yeah, plenty of smiles. Hey, Pete.” Jim started, moving beside Eric. “You sure that this’ll work. I mean, aren’t VHS tapes old?”
“Hey, just because you grew up on DVDs...” Eric chuckled, earning a light punch on the arm. He laughed, knowing fully well that Jim didn’t like admitting he was more than a little pampered.
The VHS clicked into the player with ease, and Peter looked back to his friends with a grin. “ That answer your question? Aunt Cindy keeps her vintage stuff in good condition. Now, let’s see what stumped our good friend Alice…”
A woman with dog ears flickered onto the screen, a pretty cartoon brunette who looked like a cross between Magara from ‘Hercules’ and Jessica Rabbit from ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’. She looked to each of them in turn, a rather impressive effect done by the animators, especially given that it made her long, flopped ears sway from side to side.
“Hey, kids. You can call me Circe.” The woman waved, a friendly grin on her face. “And I can tell you all wanted to watch this to let out your inner animals.”
Peter tilted his head in confusion, looking his friends. “What do you think shelplphhh.” His words were interrupted as his tongue slopped out of his mouth, lengthening and stretching past his lips as he began to pant. Intelligence rapidly faded from his eyes as his hand pulled from the VHS player.
Stunned by the loss of their de facto leader, the group could only watch as he began to transform. His fingers were shortening and lush pads were growing out from his fingertips and palms. Soft, white fur crept from his pores, interrupted by the occasional black spot.
“Disney Dogs…” Alice muttered, furthest back and least affected by the tape. She realized what was happening immediately, thanks in no small part to understanding the reference behind the film’s character.
“That’s right!” Circe smiled from the animation. “Good girl, Alice.”
Despite herself, Alice felt a rush of pride at the woman’s words. Come to think of it, she was a good girl-and this was a good thing to happen to a good girl. She… No, she didn’t want to think of herself as some animal. “Guys, turn it off! We’ll think of how to fix Peter…”
She trailed off as she saw Jim and Eric starting to change. The men yelped as their noses turned dark and spongy, pointing to each other and gasping as they watched each others’ lips darken, too. They were both growing lush brown fur, but Jim’s was far silkier than the unkempt coat Eric now sported.
Peter simply panted idly, arching his back as a tail slipped from his spine. His chest barreled out into a proper canine torso, and he shook his ears, lengthening them and flopping them with a contented whimper. He was a good boy, was a good dog!
Alice whimpered, recognizing the Dalmatian that her friend was becoming. She’d certainly seen ‘101 Dalmatians’ enough to recognize him. “Pongo…” She breathed, flinching as Peter’s ears perked at the name.
Petgo… Petro… Pongo! Pongo was his name! The dog barked excitedly, wagging his tail and tossing his ears again as his clothes vanished, a red collar appearing around his neck. It jingled in time with the motion, and he barked happily. “Rowf! Ruff!”
Similar collars appeared on the changing men and the unscathed girl. Jim and Eric reached shortening fingers towards their collars, looking to their tags and seeing ‘Lady’ and ‘Bruno’ emblazoned on the nameplates, reading the names slowly as the ability to read English was slowly slipped from their minds.
“La… Dy?” Jim grunted, huffing as his ears flopped over. He chewed on his lower lip in a distinctly feminine fashion, whining and feeling his new tail extend. The tail drooped between his legs, expressing his displeasure at his new form. “But I don’t want to be a girrrarf! Arf!”
His barks were light, unlike Pongo’s deeper canine exclamations. He reached a hand to his face as it began to extend, crossing his eyes as he watched the lighter shade of fur slowly come in, feeling his eyelashes extend in a very Disney fashion.
Of course… It was only natural for her to have long eyelashes, right? She was a dog, right? No… She was… Woman? That didn’t sound right to her either… The girl whined, feeling an ache between her legs as her body changed to match her mind, reassigning her gender. She panted and shook her long Cocker ears, before blushing as she realized how undignified the act of panting really was.
Eric, on the other hand, was under no such restriction. The dog sloppily panted, his cheeks extending into jowls. He was becoming a proper bloodhound, and had very little resistance to it. After all, the form matched him to a T. He was a bit of a goof, he hated cats… It was like a match made in heaven!
He wagged his butt, coaxing a tail from his own behind and barking loudly, drool slopping from his lips. Whiskers curled from his cheeks, and he felt his ears droop much like Lady’s had. Or… Jim’s? No, that was definitely Lady, he could tell from her scent-and his nose never lied!
Bruno panted happily, mind slipping with ease into that of a bloodhound’s. He pressed his dark and spongy nose to Lady’s human shirt, sniffing it only to yelp as the clothing vanished, leaving him with a noseful of her lush fur.
“Arf!” Lady yipped, distressed by the fact that her fur now had Bruno’s snot in it. She shook herself clean, bouncing back from him and growling lowly.
“SorROWF ROWF!” Bruno’s jowls flopped as he barked, falling onto all fours and grunting as his own clothes vanished. The former man was more than happy to be rid of them. He only needed his green collar-even if his current eyes saw it as more of a beige.
Alice trembled in the corner of the room, watching Circe turn towards her, a smile on the woman’s face. “Now now, little one. Don’t be afraid. After all, you recoginize the dog you’re becoming, don’t you?”
Alice didn’t want to look, but her human curiosity demaned it. Her fingers trembled as she lifted her own nametag from her black collar. “Chiffon…” She muttered, not recognizing it from any of the animated movies she was so fond of. “I don’t…” The girl continued, brow furrowing as she struggled to remember.
As she thought out loud, her eyebrows began to thicken, growing white and thick with fur. They looked like small bushes on her face, which was further changing the more she concentrated. Her hair lightened to a shock white, losing its sleek conditioned texture in favor of something unkempt.
“Quite the… SHAGGY dog you’re becoming, eh?” The woman on the television sniggered, turning towards the former men and cooing. “Isn’t she just? That’s right, my doggies! Let’s give Alice a proper doggy welcome, hm?”
Pongo, Lady, and Bruno couldn’t resist the woman’s words-it was like their own owner had spoken them! The three dogs bounded towards Alice, covering her in licks, their saliva causing thick, shaggy white fur to sprout across Alice’s body.
The girl whimpered, groaning as he changes accelerated. “NRROO! Drroon’t wrrannarrr be droog!!” She howled, her tone growing rougher and coarser. She realized, too late, that she was shifting genders just as Jim had, and a sharp howl drew from her throat as she felt something masculine between her legs. “AROOO!”
Still, the dogs licked her, kept licking her, even behind her floppy ears and under her once-well-trimmed arms. She was soon clad from head to toe in the hairs, and her paws were coming in so thick and bulky. The dog looked to her hands, whining and pleading for mercy.
Then something white caught her attention, springing to life just after one of the dogs licked at her backside. She wanted to know what it was, so she turned towards it-but the thing moved! His lips pulled back and she growled. He wanted to know what it was!
Allon turned in a circle, trying to catch the white object and failing. So Chiffice tried again. And again. And again. By the time Chiffon realized he was chasing his own tail, it was far too late for him-namely because he only realized it was his tail when he caught it.
His paws wrapped around the furry thing, and he felt it as his own. It didn’t make sense to his simplifying mind, so he gave it a tentative bite, yelping as he felt his teeth sink into his tail. The dog pulled his head back, a blunt muzzle stretching from his face, completing his changes.
“Now then… Play nice, puppies. I’ll just rewind myself for next time you want to see me.” Circe winked at them, and the screen clicked off-not that they could really understand what they were saying. The dogs only knew that the pretty woman on screen was gone now, and that made them sad.
The four animals barked, looking to one another and beginning to play, chasing tails and sniffing each other’s coats. They stopped the instant the door’s handle started to turn, and turned towards it in unison, barking in their mingled tones.
Cindy entered the room, groaning as she saw her new canine companions-then yelping as Bruno pounced on the woman, covering her face in licks. He’d had a crush on her back when he was Eric, and that was made only worse now that he was an inhibition-free dog.
“Down, boy!” Cindy laughed, scratching his large ears and patting his flank, coaxing him to the ground. She then echoed her first sigh with another, unable to tell which dog was who-other than the one she suspected to be her nephew’s horny friend.
“Great… I guess you saw ‘Disney Dogs’…” She groaned, yelping as the dogs whimpered, eyes full of hurt. “No, no! I’m not berating you! It’s just that I’m going to have to postpone our Disney tour. They don’t really allow dogs on rides, you know… Or in general.”
The dogs went back to panting contentedly, and the woman grinned, moving among them and petting them, giving them the attention such good pets deserved. “But on the bright side, I still have some leftover treats from when my own friends and I saw that.”
Her eyes lingered on the tape, and she dreamed of becoming the bulldog Butch again. Then she shook off the thought-the last time they didn’t have human supervision, she’d had to spend a month cleaning the house.
No, she’d wait for the magic of the VHS to wear off first. Then she’d think about teaching them just what the other tapes were about.
