An Overwatch Transformation Story
(Woman to Snail)
From Sombra’s room a torrent of curses spilled, both increasingly inventive and anatomically inaccurate. “Moira!” A Hispanic voice called, followed by another tirade. “Keep your projects out of my quarters!”
Said quarters were mostly fine, save for a container full of some sort of viscous liquid, a thick mixture that had been spilled on the Latina Talon agent. She groaned, wiping her hair with a look of utter disdain on her face.
No answer came, but the girl didn’t expect any. She knew that Moira would be too busy with ‘science’ to care about the little things like basic human decency. That’s just how it was here, and that’s exactly why Sombra wanted out. Los Muertos hadn’t been saints, but they’d at least felt like family.
Sombra’s hard glare softened slightly as a gurgle ran through her belly, and she wobbled in place unsurely. “There had better not have been anything in that…” She paused, searching for words and inevitably settling on another string of Spanish curses.
The cramp was followed by another, and she stumbled to a wall, leaning against it to catch her breath. There was a medkit dispenser in her room, she’d just need to hack it open… The girl lifted a shaky hand, wincing as her augmentics sent a shock of electricity through her form.
“What?” Her brow furrowed, and she looked to her hand dubiously. The latticework of technology in her arm flared a bright purple, then died out. It was something that should be an impossibility, her enhancements were as much a part of her as anything else. To have them disabled like this was… Well, unthinkable.
It seemed that the unthinkable was on the menu today, as her arm spasmed and her claws retracted into her fingers. Then they-along with the rest of her enhancements-fell out of her, clattering to the ground in a messy heap.
Fear settled into her heart as she looked to her arms again in a blind panic. It was like her body had turned to water, and the metal components within had simply fallen out. She could feel her pulse racing, but training asserted itself.
“If I can’t hack the kit in my room, there’s one in the medbay…” She muttered slowly, nodding to herself at length. “And that’s where I’ll need to go.”
She moved to lower her outstretched arm, only to shudder involuntarily as a muscle cramp coursed through her. Her entire arm seized up, and she clutched at it, fingers digging into the soft flesh of her arm.
Then they sank farther and farther into it, as though the limb was no longer solid. A distressed glance to her limb confirmed the worst: it was lengthening, stretching away from her body. Then with a wet sucking sound, her arm sloughed off at the bicep.
It thumped to the floor wetly, landing in the puddle of slime that had been spilled on her. Sombra stared at it numbly, unable to fully process what had happened to her. After a few stunned seconds, she looked to her stump and gasped. It was oozing a thick, clear substance not dissimilar to the compound that had started this.
She couldn’t even swear at this, she was too panicked to. All she could do was scream, a wordless cry of panic that echoed around her bedroom. “AIEEEEEulph” The cry cut itself off as something clogged her throat.
Her gag reflex kicked in, and the Latina girl retched, a torrent of thick slime spilling from her mouth. The ooze landed on her severed arm, dissolving it into a pile of grease. Said pile congealed around her feet, hissing at her shoes.
It ate through her footwear in a matter of seconds, and she could feel the wet ooze on her feet. The feeling ebbed away to nothingness as soon as it had started, and Sombra moved to leave her room, to head for the medbay.
A loud clacking sound filled the air as she moved a foot, and the girl looked down to her feet again in horror. Her shoes had dissolved, so she should have heard the quiet pat of skin on tile. This was like hearing a claw clack against the ceramic.
She immediately regretted the motion, catching a full view of her changing feet. They were hard and black, a thick shell enveloping the soft skin beneath. The sight was odious enough to send another wave of nausea through her, and she vomited another torrent of mucus.
This time was worse than the first, a seemingly unending torrent spilling from her mouth. She was choking on her vomit, so much thick cloying mucus spilling from past her plump lips, which soon began to melt away.
It wasn’t like they were dissolving. Rather, it was like she was made of wax and had been left too close to a source of heat. They simply vanished away into nothingness on her mouth, leaving her deformed. The same mucus dribbled through her nose, and she could feel that feature sinking into her face as well.
She fell hard onto her remaining hand, slumping onto her side and groaning as what remained of her clothing began to dissolve. Thankfully, her retching came to an end a moment later, and she raggedly struggled to catch her breath.
Her feet were curling up behind herself a bit at a time, as though they were a spool that was winding around her legs. She could feel her ankles curling around the hard shell of her feet, then her calves followed suit.
There was no crunching or cracking of bone, and that somehow made things all the worse. She felt them winding up bonelessly, soon surrounded by a hard shell. It was like her skin was hardening and her innards were left wet and slimy inside the new shell, just like some kind of snail.
“A snail…” Sombra gurgled, her nose receding into her face and leaving just a pair of nostrils behind. “I need… Help…” She reached with her free arm, pulling herself towards the medbay.
She moved like this, pulling herself an agonizing foot forward at a time, for what felt like an eternity. The slime followed her, as though her body was producing it. In truth, she suspected that it was-but the girl couldn’t bring herselg to admit it.
One fateful pull, her arm refused to obey her. It simply pulled in towards her body, sinking into her side with a wet gurgle, followed by a bubbled of displaced air. Her breasts melted away beneath herself, and she struggled to crawl.
This was a nightmare, a hellish torture that too surreal for reality. But she had to admit that it was happening to herself, she could no longer deny it. Her legs curled up to her ass, enveloping that as well and reforming it into a stubby tail. Their weight was heavy on her backside as it climbed slowly up her spine, erasing vertebrae as it crept towards her neck.
“No…” Sombra muttered weakly, curling her body instinctively and oozing herself forwards a bit at a time. Her ears fell from her head, leaving only mucus-dripping holes behind. Worse, feelers stretched out from her mouth, slapping at the smooth tile and the walls around her.
She could taste her own mucus, a thick and cloying snot that clung to her throat. It didn’t abate no matter how much she slithered, no matter how much the snail-like girl desperately tried to move. But… She finally made it into the medbay.
A smile, or what approximated one, graced her misshapen features. Then a loud, arrogant strut caught her attention. She could hear it despite the mucus weeping from her ear-holes, and she slowly turned her head to regard the source.
It was a redhead, one with aquiline features and a permanent scowl. “Sombra.” Moira spoke slowly. “I trust you can hear me, given that insipid motion of your head. In truth, I don’t believe you deserve the mercy of this explanation. But protocol, orders, and these accursed cameras in my office decree I must. We know.”
It took Sombra a few seconds to process that, another nightmare made real for the girl. She had always been the sharpest thinker in any group, and now it was like her thoughts were trying to move through clinging muck. Her mind was changing just as her body had, and she knew only dread… And anger.
They knew. They knew that she had been planning on betraying Talon and redeeming herself. And for that, she was cursed to this fate. Somehow, that was worse than simply being transformed as an accident. It was an insult to her pride, adding only to her hell.
“No… I’m still… A valuable… Agent…” It was harder to talk now, her throat clogging with more mucus that she no longer had the muscles to expel. Her eyes ached as they began to extend from her head, stalks pushing her glimmering orbs up even as they darkened to a mollusk’s black.
“You are. But not for us. Idle hands do the devil’s work, and yours have indeed been idle.” Moira smiled, watching the girl change, openly mocking Sombra’s helplessness.
But… Sombra wasn’t helpless, she couldn’t be! Her heart pounded with distress until the cloying ooze claimed that as well. Her eyes dimmed as she began to lose more and more of her intelligence, becoming little more than a stupid animal.
Not helpless… She had friends, powerful ones… “You’ll… Pay…” She slurped wetly, a loud and low gurgle both punctuating her words and marking the end of her ability to speak. The snail began to shrink, her skull flattening and her hair sinking into her slimy body. The purpled highlights remained on her snail’s head, a reminder to the world of the traitor she’d been.
“Perhaps. Perhaps not.” Moira looked down to Sombra, a sneer on her face. “But you won’t be around to see any haphazard attempts at vengeance. You’ll just be a snail, mindless and impotent. Forever.”
She said something else, but Sombra lost the ability to process Moira’s cruel words. Fear settled in as she realized that this was the end, that she was truly and forever forsaken. Slowly, the panic began to ebb away-terror was an emotion that she could no longer process.
Sombra… Snail… She didn’t even have any identity. It didn’t have any gender. Had… No… Thought…
The snail oozed its way forward mindlessly, the purple shell and stripe on its head the only reminder of what it had once been. A creature that it no longer could recognize as ‘human’ scooped it up and placed it in a terrarium, where it would live out the rest of its days.
The snail would crawl in circles, eat, and ooze slime. It might one day be mated; it might be left forever alone. The creature was too stupid to know the possibility of having a future, much less the nightmare that was its existence and its eternity.
