From the notes of Pontificus Maxim, Prime Cataloguer of the Argus Magical Society:
Some people like to say that the Old Haversham House is haunted. Though there are no occupants, it somehow magically decorates itself for every holiday. These decorations come in time with reports of disappearances in the area, which lends but one conclusion:
Some people are right.
A year-long study has been performed regarding the Old Haversham House by the Argus Magical Society. The Society has dared mundane 'ghost hunters' and thrillseekers to explore the house throughout the year 2015.
These are a selection of the tamer results.
February 14, 2015 (Valentine's Day)
Aaron and Denise giggled as they slipped into the house, hand-in-hand with smiles on their faces. Of course, neither of them believed in the rumors surrounding this house-despite the local superstition, Snopes.com had very little to say on whether or not its magic was real.
Of course, that could only mean that the rumors were inherently false, and the two grinned as they planned out what would be their best Valentine's day ever. Long had the two wanted to have a house all to themselves on this romantic night, and so they made haste to one of the mansion's empty upper bedrooms, enjoying the ambient silence the building afforded them.
"So, what do you want to do first?" Denise smiled, undressing as she stepped toward the bed. She chuckled as Aaron tore off his clothes in a hurry, hopping onto the blankets with a grin.
"I don't know... I'm sure you can think of something." He waggled his eyebrows impishly, sending a glance pointedly between his legs.
Denise sniggered loudly, crawling onto the bed on all fours and purring under her breath. "Well, I think that I can come up with a treat or two for you on our little date night."
Her boyfriend opened his mouth to respond; then he blinked in surprise at a strange blotch on Denise's face. "Did you get something on your cheek at dinner?" He asked, breaking whatever mood they'd managed to drum up.
"Oh, very smooth." The girl rolled her eyes, but rubbed at it nonetheless. The back of her hand came back covered in a brown, slightly sticky substance; and she blinked in surprise. "Though apparently you were right... Is this chocolate?"
When Aaron didn't respond, she looked back to him in surprise to find his eyes were even wider. The action of wiping her face had hardly cleared the smudge, instead seeming to smear it further around her skin. Worse, the blotch seemed to be spreading, slipping across her face like coffee spilled upon a blank page.
"Um... I might be seeing things." He chuckled weakly, shaking his head. "Give me a second to get some water, okay?"
The young man tried to roll off the bed, but he found his muscles oddly weak. Instead, he remained in a seated posture, with his back against the bed's headrest and his legs spread around Denise's lithe form.
"I... I can't move." He began slowly, his heart beginning to race in his chest. He looked back up to his girlfriend with wide eyes to find that the rich brown had now covered half of her face, and the smear on her hand was creeping along her arm as well; encasing it.
"Oh God! Honey, I think something's happening to you!" He exclaimed, only to groan as his whole form began to ache. He squeezed his eyes shut as he felt his body begin to bloat, as though there was something filling his form from within.
Little did he realize just how apt the thought of being filled was. Everything beneath his skin was turning to a soft, plush cotton stuffing. It filled his body; bloated it; stripped him of the gift of motion.
Denise could see the transformation that was gripping her boyfriend all too well, and she squeaked in horror. "T-to me? You're... I don't know what's happening to you!" She exclaimed, her eyes wide as she watched Aaron's skin darken, seams and stitching slipping along his skin.
Aaron's eyes opened, not by choice, and he looked at his girlfriend to find that her form was entirely a shiny brown. "Look down." He said, the words taking an incredible effort to force from within his body. His lungs had already changed into fluffy, soft cotton; and he could only speak by forcing a thin amount of air up through his plush belly.
"You're... becoming... chocolate..." He managed, his last words before the act of speech became too difficult to accomplish.
His words served their purpose; however, and Denise glanced down to find that her body was somehow now an animate confection. As though seeing the alterations had spurred on some transformative force, an invisible vise clamped around Denise's body, and her arms snapped to her sides, her legs sliding together.
The motion left her off-balance, and she fell into Aaron's stomach, feeling herself sink into the cotton; feeling a lush fuzziness to his belly. Her eyes widened as she realized that he was growing some kind of fur, but no sound came from her mouth.
Instead, her lips closed as well; fusing over as though she'd never had them to begin with. This was the start of an entirely new nightmare, and her arms and legs melted into her body; her facial features disappearing one by one. In seconds, she was a limbless woman with only a pair of eyes, and even those would not be long for the world.
A phantom terror grasped the spot of her chest where her heart would be, but she had no way to convey her fear. Instead, she could only squeeze her eyes shut and grimace as whatever was changing her began to mold her in a new way, tapering her bottom and puffing her shoulders.
Her head simply sank into her large and rounded chocolate shoulders, and she opened her eyes one last time to catch sight of Aaron's face.
His eyes were wide, as he had been watching her this whole time. Even if he didn't want to, he couldn't shut them. They were glass now, colored beads that glinted slightly in the moonlight which streamed through one of the room's opened windows.
His nose and mouth had pushed out into a snout of sorts, though stitching was required to provide him lips. These were curled into a goofy smile, and an ursine cleft ran from his upper lip to his nose, which was now a dark black button.
Aaron had realized what he was becoming when Denise had fallen into his chest, though it took him until now to fully cope with the horror of his transformation. He was becoming some sort of teddy bear, complete with rounded ears and arms and legs which lacked hands or feet.
A small tail worked its way from his backside as he watched Denise's eyes fade away, the last of her head dipping back into the center of her body. He'd realized what she was becoming as well, though he wouldn't have told her even if he could have.
After all, how could someone possibly tell their love that they were becoming a chocolate heart? Aaron screamed silently in horror as he watched all humanity vanish from his girlfriend's body, leaving her an inanimate sweet on his bloated beary belly.
Denise let out mental wails of her own, though they went similarly unheard. The two shrank down until they were a little smaller than the throw pillows which remained on the bed, and their clothing simply vanished.
All that was left of the two was a teddy bear holding a chocolate heart, a pair of inanimate objects who were lifted from the bed by invisible hands and placed in an ever-fuller attic come February 15th.
April 5th, 2015 (Easter)
Tara and Kimberley Vance slipped into the Old Haversham House, glad for the reprieve from the rain. They were a pair of sisters who had no idea of the challenge that the Argus Magical Society had placed; nor were they aware of the superstitions that surrounded the manor.
Nonetheless, they would suffer all the same.
The door had barely closed behind them before the first changes swept their bodies, the house's magic eager for victims.
Tara shuddered and Kimberly shook her head as a strange tingling coursed along their forms, and they looked to one another only to squeak in shock. Tara's face was becoming an unsightly shade of yellow while the rest of her body began to lose its color; and Kimberley was shorter than she'd been in years.
"What's happening to you?" They shrieked in unison, looking down to their own bodies and screaming. Each girl focused on their own transformations, lost in a blind panic to the assault on their bodies.
Tara's body was getting clearer and clearer, and she let out a whimper as she held a hand up to the light from a nearby window. She could see clear through her hand, and the blond gasped in shock.
Then her fingers began to lose their shape, deforming into a blob along with her arm. Tara shrieked in terror as she looked down to the rest of her body, watching her clothes slip within her body, dissolving as they were absorbed by the clear viscous liquid she was becoming.
Her legs lost their strength and sent her to a puddled mess on the floor, where she continued to scream, feeling her body lose all sense of form.
Kimberly was better off, though only just. She was simply shrinking, her body getting smaller and smaller and her clothes getting bigger and bigger around her. In just seconds, she'd dwindled to the point that she now was the size of a toddler, and there was no end to her diminishment in sight.
She screamed, the sound oddly high-pitched as it left her lips, and stared out the ever-larger collar of her shirt, gazing out from it as though it were the mouth of a gigantic cavern. The comparison soon became an apt one as her clothing folded over, leaving her trapped within its folds.
Kimberley continued to scream and sob as she fought her way out from the tangled folds, making what felt like an unending trek to poke her head out from the collar and to be greeted with what was a cat-sized pile of thick liquid; a clear substance which held a golden face within it.
Indeed, Tara's form had done some shrinking of its own, though it was still more than twice the size of Kimberley's. No, she had to be three times that; Kimberly thought, her eyes wide as she reached a hand out to her sister.
"Tara? Are... Are you okay?" She asked, her voice quiet thanks to her panic and tiny size alike.
"I don't fbblblbbl." Tara's words devolved into wet gurgles as the rest of her flesh liquefied, her face remaining that jaundiced shade of yellow while the remainder of her body ran clear.
Kimberley opened her mouth to scream, which proved to be the biggest mistake of her life. No sooner had she taken a breath to let out the loudest shriek of her life than the yolk-like blob of her sister launched itself towards her mouth as though it had a mind of its own.
The girl choked as she felt the goo trailing down her throat, almost drowning her as it filled her belly, bringing with it the ache of having eaten too much. Much to her horror, this wasn't near the end of the slimy mess that was her sibling, and it continued to stream into her, making her wetly wail with agony as she began to expand.
It was like nothing she'd ever felt before, her skin aching as her body began to swell. Even though she was so tiny, she was getting so very round and full, her arms and legs soon sticking out at funny angles as she fell to her backside.
It met the ground with a solid thunk, and the girl screamed as she realized that she was becoming hard; as though the expansion was forever solidifying within her body. Her body continued to round out, though now the alterations to her form were beginning to destroy what remained of her humanity.
Rather than gaining any human curves, she was becoming a round and ovoid object; her face tilting upwards as her ever-expanding chest swallowed her neck. She could feel her limbs get absorbed by what was now a hard shell, and tears dripped from her eyes as the liquid continued to flow within her.
She was becoming an egg. It was a nightmarish thought that Kimberly dreamed up; and she realized with a thrill of horror that it was absolutely apropos. Her form was limbless and smooth, and it certainly explained why her sister had become a yolk.
If they were inseparable before... The manic thought filled her head, and she let out a gurgled giggle as her face melted away, giving room to her new shell. The last of her sister's yolk entered her, but she was still so full; still enlarging to house Tara's new form.
Larger and larger the egg grew, until it was well past the size of a chicken's egg, and was now closer to that of an ostrich. Such was the size Kimberley needed to hold Tara's liquid form, which sloshed about as the last of it settled.
For a moment, the two allowed themselves a silent breath of relief. Could it be that with this their troubles were over; they were transformed and could be left to suffer in peace?
The sensation of warmth around them begged to differ, and the two felt discomfort as they grew hotter and hotter. Discomfort turned to pain all too soon, and both of the sisters screamed silently as they were heated from within.
It was like some magical energy was hard boiling them, cooking Tara and forcing Kimberley's insides to deal with the agony of containing a boiling yolk.
Of the two, Tara suffered more; feeling herself congeal, her goo hardening to a thicker texture. This thick texture clung like molten lava to Kimberley's walls, a desperate attempt to meet the cool air of the manor. And yet she never reached it, even as her golden yolk lost its luster.
Finally, when the two could take it no longer, their transformation met an end. They silently sobbed with agony as an invisible force lifted them, an unseen brush covering the two in dye and paint alike.
The sisters' blindness prevented them from seeing what was happening to them, but they could tell all too well what was happening from the sensations gripping their forms. They were being painted just like an Easter egg, albeit an oversized one.
Finally, the tingling ended, and the two were lowered into what felt suspiciously like a patch of grass.
Though they couldn't tell, they'd been moved outside for the day, a rainbow-colored egg by the porch of the manor, beckoning others to come within for an Easter egg hunt.
Once the day has passed, the house's phantom force carries the two to the same attic, lending the Argus Magical Society to believe that not only is there potentially infinite space; but also a time freezing spell to ensure foods never rot or spoil.
Unfortunately for the mundane siblings, it also means they will likely be stuck in their current form forever.
June 18th, 2015 (Ramadan)
Jakob Marsden grinned as he slipped over the mansion's gates. A reward for breaking into a deserted mansion, and all he had to do was get in and out? Count him in for that! He ducked around to the back of the mansion, intending to break in through a rear window.
No doubt whoever had set this up was watching the front, which meant he'd need to be a little innovative.
The man grinned as he slipped a bandanna over his mouth, covering his face more out of force of habit than out of any concern of getting caught. After all, that 'Argus Society' had totally okayed this little excursion.
It was good that the former burglar could put his old talents to use; better that he could get paid for them. He smiled as he started to scale the walls, only for a sudden weakness to grip them.
Irritated, the man looked to his arms with a frown; only to yelp at the sight of them slimming. It almost looked like they were becoming a pair of women's arms, a thought which was confirmed by the sight of his fingers slimming and his nails lengthening.
He half-leapt, half-fell from the balcony in surprise, thumping hard on the grass and whimpering as he bruised. That in itself was odd; he'd taken enough hard knocks in his life to have the scars and callouses to shield himself from such a blow.
"What's..." Jakob began, only to trail off at the sight of his clothing changing on his form. While he'd broken onto the property in a black jacket and black cargo pants, he was now sporting what looked like a silky blue dress... Or a burka.
The thought passed through his mind almost as an afterthought, though it soon seemed to be all the more relevant as his shoes became sandals.
"Something's changing me?" He asked, his voice rising in pitch as he spoke, the subtle hints of a Middle Eastern accent settling in his every word. "Wait, I'm becoming a girl!?"
This sentence was punctuated by a sharp pain between his legs, and he brought his hands to his groin to feel a good deal less than he'd expected. Like it or not, he was now a she... And she was still changing.
Her thighs plumped and her stomach narrowed, causing Jakob to wheeze with discomfort. It seemed that this flesh was to be repurposed elsewhere, as her chest tingled next.
A pair of supple breasts inflated on her frame, giving her an hourglass figure and adding an unexpected weight to her chest. They weren't overly large, but were still far greater than anything she'd had as a man.
The thought of being a woman was still alien to her, and a blush crept along her cheeks as her jaw rounded, becoming far less blocky than it was before. Her bandanna seemed to be changing as well, growing larger and wrapping itself around her head in a manner unsettlingly like a boa constrictor.
Just as Jakob moved her hands to remove it, she felt a tingling in her mind and a few last aches and cramps as her body adjusted to its new form. The ache in her mind was more pressing, and Tahera frowned as she began to wonder what was happening now.
It couldn't deal with her clothing; that was natural for a Muslim woman like her, which meant... her thoughts trailed off as she was struck with a revelation: she couldn't think of herself as a man; or as anything other than Tahera Daoud, for that matter.
The woman screamed as she realized she couldn't remember her old name. Already new memories were encroaching on her old life as a thief, and the woman set off at as quick of a run as her burkha allowed.
She made it to the gate in minutes which had cost her childhood and elementary school years, and by the time she'd managed to open the wrought-iron fence, she'd forgotten her middle school and much of high school.
Thankfully, that was as far as things went; as she stumbled from the property and kicked the gate shut behind her. Tahera shuddered as she came to grips with how close she'd come to losing herself; only to squeal as someone cleared their throat from behind her.
It was a young man, wearing the logo of that damnable Argus Society. "Excuse me, miss? I think you're going to want to come with me... Unless you want to try living without a background in the U.S."
"Well, when you put it like that." Tahera scowled, groaning at the sultry tones of her accent. "Just get me out of here."
The Muslim woman sent one last, lingering glance to the house as she left. She didn't know why, but she was glad that she'd decided to take the long way in. Call it intuition, but she felt as though staying within those doors would be a death sentence.
She was subsequently interrogated by the Argus Magical Society; then released to an undisclosed safe town, where she has become quite the cat burglar. As a side note, the town happens to be magic, and every time she's caught, she is made into an actual cat and is subsequently left to the toms of the town for a week. This surprisingly bothers her very little.
September 14th, 2015 (Rosh Hashana)
Jenny Harrington had been wealthy from birth, and thus was prone to making stupid mistakes. Perhaps the biggest mistake of her life was choosing to tell all her friends about a cool new TV show she'd heard of called 'Master Caster'. Naturally this placed her in the transformation pool.
While she'd been lucky enough to be temporarily transformed into a teapot by the program's contestant, the change had also seen her best friend get boiled, then imbibed by a rather thirsty vampiress.
Worse, she'd been told by the show's hosts that she owed them one transformation per friend she'd told, and only death or permanent change would undo such a contract.
Ever since then, Jenny had been on the lookout for ways she could hide from the magical crowd, and she'd found one in the Old Haversham House. Apparently the magical world liked to shy away from it, and that could only mean good things for her.
Or at least, that's what she'd hoped.
Jenny stepped through the doors with a smile on her face and a hum in her throat. It was a nice, ornate affair and was, all in all, about the perfect vacation home. Not too roomy; but not too small either.
"I might actually enjoy spending the rest of my life here." The girl giggled, not realizing just how long a life that would turn out to be.
Indeed, the house was already working its magic on her form. No sooner had she taken a few steps into the foyer than her skirt began to lengthen, its fabric both coarsening and thickening as it became a dress stylized after biblical times.
Funnily enough, the woman had been so accustomed to wearing new styles and fashions that she barely noticed her clothes changing around herself. Moreover, she'd spent enough time without underwear to not notice her bra and panties disappearing.
She was also distracted by her morning mimosa. And her brunch bacardi. And her new house New York Lemonade.
The culmination of a hard morning's worth of drinking had left her bladder a little full, a fact which she noticed while twirling about the living room.
"Whoops." Jenny said with a smile, pivoting on the spot and looking around. "Now, where do I find a bathroom..." She took a step forward only to freeze at the feeling of something cold around her bare feet.
That was odd for two reasons: first and foremost, she had been wearing heels when she'd walked into this building. Secondly, it felt like she'd stepped into a small pond.
The girl looked down in surprise to find that both of her feet had somehow been dipped into a basin of water, its clear surface sparkling slightly. She blinked and blushed in surprise, moving to step back from the pond only to find that her feet were firmly anchored into the stone, as though they'd been glued to it.
Jenny began to panic at this, though her worries stemmed from the possibility of wetting herself rather than her sudden case of immobility.
She whimpered with horror as her bladder clenched, aching with a fullness that made her wobble in place, trailing her hands to her groin with a whimper.
The girl was so preoccupied with her aching groin that she completely missed her dress fully transforming into a Nazarene outfit, the hem of which began to fuse with the pool of water.
The first clue she had that something was wrong was an ache in her legs, the flesh beginning to harden to stone, a rich marble that expanded to fill her dress as though she was a sculpted statue.
It wasn't a sharp pain as much as it was a topical aching, as though she was being given a rather vigorous massage while sunburnt. Still, the sensation was enough to warrant her changing her focus, looking down to her legs to find them covered by something she definitely hadn't put on this morning.
"Uh... What?" Jenny asked, looking in surprise at the blue-and-white cotton robes she now sported. They were hand-stitched and soft despite the fact, but were also woefully unfashionable. More to the point; however, the dress was beginning to turn a marble gray, solidifying to something decidedly less comfortable.
The girl rapped her knuckles against the dress curiously to find a solid knock filling the air, a sound not unlike she'd just hit a statue. Her eyes widened as she realized that she couldn't feel her legs or even move her body from the waist down, and then she began to really and truly panic.
"OH MY GOD!" She squealed loudly. Her hips went numb next, the changes to her body moving ever-upward as the girl began to hyperventilate.
"T-this can't be real! How is this happening?" She screamed, watching as the chest of her dress turned gray next; as her breasts solidified within her dress.
Her shoulders stiffened, her arms moving of some alien will; and panic finally gave in to despair. "I-I was supposed to be safe..." She whimpered, looking down to her hands as they clasped together.
She whimpered as she could actually see her sleeves filling in, solidifying to look as though she was sculpted rather than simply petrified. It was an image which filled her with dread, and she whimpered loudly as she could feel her neck hardening as well.
"Please, no..." The girl whimpered, her jaw trembling for the last few seconds of motion it retained. Then her mouth froze into a serene smile, and she let out a faint whimper through her nose before that too was filled with marble.
For a moment, Jenny panicked; beginning to suffocate. Then her chest cramped as it became a solid hunk of rock, and the need to breathe became a long-forgotten memory.
Jenny's eyes were left forever facing forward, a calm look in them despite the raw terror of her heart. Her hair grew longer to cover her ears, fusing with them into a solid clump that left her deaf. She'd lose the abilities to hear; taste; even to speak. All she could do was look on in eternal horror and feel every sensation of her new body. Which happened to include a strange pressure where her human bladder once was.
With a start, the girl realized that she was still full of all the liquids she'd drank earlier, a pressure which seemed to build as water rushed into her body through small holes where her feet met the basin.
It was a building discomfort that left her frozen form cramping with the worst agony of her life, and she dearly began to wish that she could scream, if only to provide her some release for the stabbing pain in her stone bladder.
The rock wasn't anywhere near as flexible as human skin was, an aspect of her alterations Jenny noticed the second the water had flooded her form. She thought she knew the meaning of the word full, but she was drastically wrong.
Every instance of human fullness she'd known before paled in comparison to this, to the feeling of pressure mounting that had nowhere left to go. It felt to her like she was going to shatter, her stone stomach no match for the fluid force filling her frozen form.
Jenny felt that she was going to break, that she was going to shatter! She screamed in silent agony only for a new hole to emerge in her solid lower half, a tube which connected her to the basin.
The sound of rushing water filled her form as relief flooded her body, and the water began to flow freely from her interior bladder. She could see the liquid cascading down a series of small stones, a sight that was all the more bizarre thanks to her evident deafness.
With a shudder, she realized that she was not a statue, but a fountain: a frozen figure in the shape of a woman praying by a river's side.
Silently, the girl railed against her confinement; against the horrid fate that was now her own. But there was nothing she could do about it, and she was forever left as a large fountain.
Of course, while that was her final form; it wasn't her eternal resting place. A few minutes after she'd finished changing, her form was lifted, again by an invisible force. It moved her first to the front yard; then to the back after the day had passed.
There she remained until the fall, at which point she was moved back to the same attic as before. Time will tell if she'll be put on display in 2016.
December 25, 2015 (Christmas)
The Ghost Hunty Fun Squad, or TGHFS for short, considered themselves to be the opposites of modern ghost hunters. While the traditional ghost hunter would attempt to prove the existence of spirits, the brother-sister TGHFS team had a much easier time disproving their existence, and thus ruining a lot of good fun for a lot of people.
The loss of the Bentleys to the world is perhaps a rare kindness of the Old Haversham House, as it transformed them one at a time after the group had split up.
Laura was the first to change, transforming even as she looked around the foyer to pronounce it devoid of ghosts. Her skin was darkening to a pine brown, cracking quietly as it became as bark.
Too distracted by her own voice, Laura didn't notice, and instead narrated her way into the living room. By this point, she was already essentially a dryad, her hair becoming the fine leaves of an spruce.
For the reader's sake, her insipid monologue regarding the house's lack of ghosts has been trimmed from this document; though should one truly wish to read, they may make an appropriate inquiry with the Argus Magical Society.
Her only words of value came when she finally noticed her changes, thanks to her feet branching out into a set of roots, and that is where the record of her change shall begin.
"W-wait, like what the hell's going on?" Laura screamed, her eyes wide as she looked down to her body, finding it a good deal stiffer than it used to be. Her legs were merging together into what looked like a tree's trunk, and she hugged her arms to her body, where they forever fused with her chest.
The woman shrieked loudly as her form solidified into the round barrel of a trunk, and her cries only grew louder as branches erupted from along her body, soon growing the tufts of green her new species was known for.
Her lungs were good for one more shriek as they turned to plant matter within her chest, no doubt becoming solid bark. It was a sound which carried through the house, attracting the attention of her team.
The first of them to arrive was her brother, Jeremy. The man had been in an adjoining room, and raced to Laura's side, able to recognize her face for the few remaining seconds that she had one.
"Oh my god, sis!" He yelped, rushing to her side and gripping the bark at either side of her face, a face which was slipping into an ever-expanding trunk.
Evidently the man thought that the best thing to do to help his sister was to try and tug on her branches, as though he could remove the tree and expose the woman within. While his efforts were no doubt well-intentioned, they were equally ill-advised.
The second his hands met with the leaves of her branches, they went numb. His fingers began to lengthen, and with a yelp, he realized that he was being pulled closer to her frame.
While it was hard for him to see his hands through the thick leaves of her branches, he could see enough of his skin to notice that it was changing. His fingers were lengthening even as his arms shrank, his digits curling around themselves almost like they were some kind of electrical cords.
"W-wait, not me too!" He yelped, watching as his skin began to shift in tone, becoming a deep and verdant green, blending in with Laura's leaves. He looked back up to his sister's face to see the last of it pulling into the bark of her body, leaving her as an ever-growing Christmas tree.
And if she was becoming a tree... His mind raced as he realized what was becoming of him, the pieces taking a few seconds to fall into place thanks to how insane his transformation was. "I'm becoming Christmas lights?" He yelped in shock.
As if to commemorate his revelation, a light grew from the top of his forehead, shining a bright gold. It was soon joined by others across his arms: reds, blues, greens, and golds all glimmering in as they sprouted from his skin.
He could feel each bulb forcing itself from his pores, like large zits that swelled under his skin before bursting forth with a glimmer of light. The thought made him sick to his stomach, and he groaned in terror as his arms continued to stretch out into cords, wrapping in greater and longer loops around his sister's body.
Johnny sank into despair almost immediately, too horrified by what had become of he and his sibling to think of anything else. Then, after a few minutes of wallowing in his own self-pity, a chilling thought seeped into his brain: how was the transformation lengthening his arms without reducing another part of his body in turn?
He looked down to his feet and screamed in horror, finding empty shoes and a bundled pair of pants below himself. The brunette had looked down just in time to see the last of his legs unravel, as though their human flesh was made of rubber cord.
"This can't be real! It can't be!" He moaned in horror, feeling his arms accelerate their slithering growth along Laura's many branches. His stomach and chest unwound as the tips of his cords clumped up into boxy plugs, and his heart fluttered for the last few seconds it remained a part of him.
Then, just like that, all that was left of him was his shoulders, neck and head; the latter of which were already beginning to unwind. He let out a silent scream as his neck and jaw were sucked into the bundle of green cords his shoulders had become; then the remainder of the transformation devoured him.
All that was left of the man was a lit cord of multicolored lights, a sight which certainly didn't escape the notice of the duo's camera tech, who had up to this point been lounging in their van. Now, Tabitha Lane sprinted from the vehicle to find what had become of her benefactors, unwittingly damning herself.
From the second she set foot on the grass, her body had begun to change. Her skin began to stretch and thin, and her arms and legs grew weak. Still, somehow the mundane woman completely failed to notice this, pressing on until she reached the door to the house.
This was the time that she realized her form was shifting, thanks to the soft squeak as her hand pressed against the knob, her fingers slipping loosely from it. She looked down in time to see them sink into the hollow, filled blob that had become of her palm, and then she screamed.
The woman was never really one to believe in magic, and so she'd naturally deluded herself into thinking that the Bentleys were just playing a prank on her; or hamming something up for television.
But the sight of her body beginning to change was a little too startling for her to comprehend, and she screamed as her body began to expand. It was like the house's strength had increased thanks to feeding on her two benefactors; or perhaps from the percentage of people who celebrated the holiday.
Regardless of the source, the effect was the same. Her body bloated as though she was being inflated by some invisible source, her skin creaking like rubber as it was stretched. The blond woman fell onto her hands and her feet as her very frame began to stretch, and with a loud sob she realized she was becoming something entirely inhuman.
The inflating air was expanding her body into a quadrupedal form, and from the look of the brown and white rubber that her arms had become, she was becoming some sort of reindeer decoration.
"N-no, please..." She began, her heart clenching in her chest. The words would be her last as a human, her lips sealing over a second later, along with every other hole on her body. It was an uncomfortable sensation of fusion made all the worse by the further expansion of her form, the air forcing harsh pain through every fiber of her being.
Were she capable of crying, she surely would. Her very self was screaming, growing too large for her clothes to contain. They complained with plaintive creaks and pops, threads snapping and cloth tearing. None of it was enough to relieve the tightness about Tabitha's form, a pain filling her as surely as though she were being squeezed by a vise.
Then, sweet mercy was granted to her as they split with a tear, the scraps fluttering to the ground around her immobile form. With a mental jolt of horror, she noticed that some threads remained. They were fused to her skin at one end, and the other end lashed out towards the grass, dragging her to the front lawn.
Much as Tabitha wanted to fight back against this latest change, her body remained immobile. It was like her muscles and her bones had dissolved away, leaving her entirely empty inside... Aside for a strange lump in her chest.
The second she noticed the weight, a warm feeling began to flood her form and light gently filled the yard around her. With a mental scream, Tabitha realized that she was becoming some sort of light-up yard ornament, a thought that was only confirmed by her face pressing out into a muzzle complete with a red nose.
Antlers grew from her head as the remainder of her body creaked with silent inflation, and with that she was left a common lawn decoration. Her form was still tight with air, a fullness about herself that seemed too much to bear. Her mind was still awash with horror, at the nightmare that her life had become. Her fate was forever sealed.
Final Notes:
The house seems to change its victims regardless of whether or not they themselves participate in the holiday. A phantom force tidies up after every change; which implies that there is some sort of ghost caretaker of the house.
All subjects within the house are changed into inanimate objects, though these can vary in shape, size, and complexity alike. Some subjects changed outside the house can retain their ability to move, though their physical forms will be changed nonetheless.
From interrogation of Tahera Daoud, formerly Jacob Marsden, it is confirmed that the Old Haversham House does not change a subject's mental state. This implies that all transformed subjects remain fully aware of their existence, regardless of the capacity for motion.
Any and all mundane subjects to pass the gated entrance to the home transform, which requires the use of either magical shields or mechanized drones to perform continuous maintenance on the attached recording devices.
Curiously, whatever spirit inhabits the house has neglected to remove or disturb any of the devices. It is posited that this is either because they pose no threat to the home, or that the home is aware that their existence means there will be further victims.
The latter is a chilling thought, though experiments must continue. The Argus Magical Society has mandated that they must test the extent of the holidays observed by the building, such as holidays in other countries. Additionally, further examination will be performed to determine if a subject celebrating a fictitious holiday, such as Leif Erikson day, will be suitably transformed.
Additional recordings will follow, once the 2016 results have been collated.
