Chloe and Sally looked at one another nervously, a frown on each of their faces at how doglike their bodies still were. They'd just regressed from canines to humans, and their bodies still bore symptoms of the most recent change.
Both of their hair bore white streaks throughout, and Sally's feet now ended in canine claws. The look had left her wearing sandals instead of her usual shoes, exposing the untrimmed nails to the world. And even then they were still so uncomfortable on her body, making her fidget constantly with the urge to remove them.
But she couldn't take them off—not yet, at least. For now she and Chloe had a mission at hand. They stood at the door to their friend Wendy's house, and were struggling to think of a way to explain it to her that she'd been changing into a dog at some point very, very soon.
“You know, we really need to thank your mother for infecting us with canine transformation disorder.” Chloe joked good-naturedly.
“I just hope she doesn't chew up too much of the upholstery while we're away.” Sally grinned back, glad to think of something other than how to break the news to poor Wendy.
Lily, the woman in question, had transformed into a complete dog just a little bit ago. It wasn't permanent, but it was inconvenient. Seeing as she was still mostly untrained, Chloe and Sally felt it best not to bring the woman to Wendy's.
It had eemed like a good decision at the time, but now Sally was having second thoughts. “You know, maybe we should go back and get her... It would make for a good conversation piece...”
“And have to walk back here? No way, I got enough stares for the hair already. And you don't want more people to look at your feet, do you?” Chloe rolled her eyes and fidgeted anxiously. “I say we just go in there, muster up our courage, and tell Wendy—”
“Tell me what?”
The voice came from right behind the girls, too close for comfort, and they screamed. Chloe was the first to regain some self-composure, and she spun to glare at Wendy, the blond girl having devolved into peals of laughter.
Chloe's eyes narrowed further and she looked back to Sally exasperatedly. “Never mind. I say we don't tell her.”
“Ooh, well now I'm curious.” Wendy grinned, winking at her friends. “Come on, gonna let a little scare keep you from talking?”
“Maybe. Yes.” Chloe muttered darkly, crossing her arms.
Sally laughed, the tension broken by Chloe's inability to forgive people for surprising her. “Listen, Wendy... We need you to sit down for what we have to tell you.”
Wendy blinked, tilting her head curiously. “Seriously? You know that it takes a lot to make me weak in the knees, right? Whatever you have to say, I can take it.”
Sally sighed, massaging her temple tiredly. “Okay... Well, you know how my mom works for the CDC?”
Wendy blanched and she wobbled slightly, a hand flying to steady herself on the railing of her house's steps. “On second thought, I might need to sit down...”
The girls brought their friend in with them, lying her down on the couch and patting her side as she seemed to get her body back under control. Finally, Wendy broke the silence by looking up to Sally.
“Tell me, what do I have? And how long do I have to live?”
Sally blinked, then waved her hands, shaking her head 'no'. “It's not like that! It's nothing fatal, just embarrassing!”
Wendy groaned aloud. “That could be even worse! Please not dysentery, please not dysentery!”
“It's Canine Transformation Disorder.” Chloe said bluntly, her lips quirking into a thin smile as Wendy shot upright, blinking in confusion.
“Come again?” The blond girl asked.
“Well...” Sally pursed her lips, trying to think of a way to explain it.
“You've seen the Shaggy Dog, right?” Chloe beat her to it, the girl looking at their friend bemusedly.
Wendy nodded, arching an eyebrow in confusion.
“It's that. You're gonna turn into an Old English Sheepdog.” Chloe spoke frankly again. But instead of the gasp that the two girls had expected, Wendy replied with a derisive snort of laughter, looking at the two girls with arched eyebrows.
“You're joking, right? I'm going to become a dog?” Wendy grinned. “Is that what the deal with your hair is, and with your toes? Some plan to scare me? Because right now, I'm really feeling glad that I decided to spook you two earlier.”
Chloe's eyes narrowed at the memory and she turned to leave. “Well, we tried.”
Sally stood frantically to grab her friend's arm, pulling the girl back. “No, this isn't a joke! I swear!”
Wendy smirked and shook her head. “Then what is it, if it's not a joke? You know, I'm having some real trouble thinking that I'm going to end up barking in all fours from some disease.”
“But that's what it does!” Sally pleaded, trying to make her friend realize what would happen to her. “You need to hear me out here, you start be becoming a dog; then every time you change back, a little bit more of you stays as a dog!”
“Mhmm? And it ends with me as a dumb mutt, unable to think of anything but chasing cars and chewing on a bone?”
“No, you end up as a dog with the brain of a person.” Sally spoke hurriedly, her face falling as she realized how silly she sounded.
Wendy smirked, clearly agreeing with Sally's concerns. “Sounds a little bit like fantasy to me. You know, I expected this out of Chloe; you're usually not the sort of person to go for jokes like this.”
Chloe sighed, deciding to step in for her friend. “Yeah, well it's not fantasy. Listen; I know it sounds crazy, and I thought it was too, but I've spent the past two nights running around on all fours—”
“Hey. I told you, I'm not buying it.” Wendy's brow furrowed as she gave her friends a stern look. “And if you keep up this charade, I'm going to have to ask you to leave.”
“No, please, you need to trrrust urrrs!” Sally whimpered, her hands flying to her throat. Her heart pounded as she felt an oncoming change, and the girl groaned as fur began to stretch out from her form, thankfully under her shirt for now.
“Oh, cute. You know, I did warn you, and I'm afraid you're going to have to leave.” Wendy narrowed her eyes, motioning her friends to the door.
Sally hurriedly did as asked, trying to duck out of the room before she transformed. It was really embarrassing to be the only one to change! She tried to slip past Chloe only to find herself gagging as the other girl gripped her collar harshly.
“Sit.” Chloe harshly commanded, and Sally found her part-dog mind obeying instinctively. “She needs to see this.”
Wendy scowled. “See whaaaaa?” Her voice trailed off into a question as Sally's nose darkened, pushing up on her face and flattening out into a proper doggy snout. The girl whimpered and pawed at her face, thick white fur growing past her sleeves into the open.
“See Sally change.” Chloe replied simply, scratching Sally behind her ears to keep her rooted in place.
Sally groaned inwardly as her right leg thumped with pleasure, her spine growing out longer behind her just to let her wag her tail. The girl's ears grew longer too, and she found her tongue slipping from her mouth to pant contentedly at Chloe's ministrations.
“You've got to be kidding me... This isn't real, is it?” Wendy gasped, slowly walking to her transforming friend with wide eyes and a trembling, outstretched hand.
“Feel her and see.” Chloe nodded, looking down to Sally.
The transforming girl looked up to her one friend; then looked back in surprise to Wendy as the blond shoved her hands in her mouth. She whimpered anxiously as the girl inspected her growing teeth, her ears perked with nervousness.
“Oh my God, this is real... There's no way that this could be a prosthetic...” Wendy stared blankly at her friend, looking up to Chloe. “Remember what I said about leaving? Forget that. Sit down and tell me everything.”
Chloe grinned, patting Sally on her rump and ushering the girl out to change in peace. Sally, of course, was all too eager to oblige; her clothes feeling awkward on her canine body, but her human mind refusing to let herself strip in front of Wendy.
Chloe watched the girl leave with a smile, looking back to the blond before her. “You wanted everything? Well, here's all I know so far.”
The two girls continued their conversation for some time, interrupted only by Sally re-emerging from a side corridor as a fully changed Old English Sheepdog. Of course Chloe played with her happily, but Wendy was too unnerved by the prospect of that happening to herself, instead listening with interest... And wondering when she'd join them as an animal.
A couple days later and there were still no signs of change on Wendy, which the blond was insanely grateful for. Still, it didn't mean she was out of the water. From what Chloe had told her there were a few days for the virus to really take hold, so she spent the past few days at home to avoid a public change.
That said, she was starting to get stir-crazy, cooped up in her home like this, and the girl started to wonder if she'd instead be better off transforming in the middle of a mall. At least then she'd be able to get out for a bit, meet new people...
A knock on her door startled from her daydream, and she leaped to her feet in surprise, running to the door. She found Sally and Chloe standing there, the two girls looking less like their usual selves and more like furry cosplayers.
They were both coated from head to toe in thick fur, and Sally even had a snout reminiscent of the one she'd grown just a few days ago. It also looked like she had paws instead of hands—not that Chloe's were much better off.
Wendy must have been staring, because Chloe growled lowly under her breath. “It's been a long few days, okay? Just no throwing a ball around us, or I can't guarantee what we'll do.”
It was then that Wendy realized that there were three of them—though the last woman was barely human at all. She looked almost exactly like a sheepdog, save for the fact that she was wearing a sweater and had awfully human eyes.
“Um... Who's this? And why is she wearing such an awful sweater?” Wendy asked, looking down in bewilderment as the dog scratched at her collar.
“It's better if she explains it...” Sally muttered.
At that, the dog began to speak. “Hellorr Wendrr.” She closed her eyes for a moment, clearing her throat, then began to speak again. “Hello Wendy, I'm Mrs. Hayward, and I would very much like to be let in and have this damnable collar removed from my neck.”
“Um... Okay...” Wendy moved back, her eyes as round as saucers. Of all of the things she thought she'd see to day, this was absolutely the last on the list.
“Much obliged. Damnable leash laws.” Mrs. Hayward padded into the house, her tongue lolling from her mouth as she started to pant; tail wagging behind her.
“Um...” Wendy pointed at the dog. “Is that your mom?” She looked up to Sally, surprise clearly written on her face.
“Yes, and my ears—despite their size and bushiness—work just fine. Now someone get this sweater and collar off of me before I go mad!” The dog growled under her breath, her hind legs kicking at the collar.
“If you wouldn't mind?” Sally asked Wendy, holding up her hands to demonstrate their uselessness. “We barely got these on; I don't want to think about taking them off.”
Wendy nodded. “Y-yeah, sure.” She unclasped the collar, unable to keep the shock from her face that this dog was something that she and her friends could end up as.
“No need to look so worried dear; I don't bite.” Mrs. Hayward huffed happily.
“Except when someone's trying to put a sweater on you.” Chloe muttered darkly under her breath, glaring quietly at the doggy woman.
“Oh, hush. I only nibbled at you.” The dog then turned to Wendy. “Oh, by the way; you can drop all of the 'Mrs. Hayward' nonsense. It's a little bit much to call me when I'm a dog, after all. 'Lily' will suffice.”
“Mhmm.” Wendy said absently, working to get the sweater off of Sally's mother. It was almost like there was something keeping it on... A quick tug confirmed her suspicions, and Wendy stared with wide eyes at a pair of feminine—albeit furry—breasts swaying below the dog.
Again Lily noticed the girl's stare, and she huffed to herself quietly. “Oh, no need to stare. I know that I still have—”
“Sweater puppies?” Chloe offered helpfully.
“Ha ha. Hilarious.” Lily replied glibly.
Wendy stared in shock, still unable to process human speech coming from a dog's muzzle. That said, if she pretended that it was a B-movie voice-over, it was a lot easier to deal with.
“So... One of you said you'd explain this to me?” Wendy offered hesitantly, arching an eyebrow at the girls. Of course they responded by pointing to the dog in the room, who sat on her haunches and raised a paw to her throat to clear it.
“Well... As you can well imagine, this virus is a highly contagious one.” Lily said, shaking her head to flop out her ears and dislodge some of her hairs. “You know how some people are allergic to dog fur? Well, this is like that only with a lot more... Intense of a reaction.”
Wendy nodded slowly. “Mhmm. You do know that my dad lives here too, right?” She asked, watching the fluttering hairs drifting towards the ground.
“Oh? Is he single? I've been thinking of having puppies.” Lily said, huffing quietly at the distraught expression that came over all of the other girls' faces. “I'm joking, of course. Don't worry, the disease seems to only affect women.”
Sally raised her hand. “On that note. Can we not call it a disease? It makes me feel a lot sicker than I really am.”
Chloe glanced to her doglike friend, arching an overly bushy eyebrow. “As if calling it a virus is much better than that?”
Sally pursed her lips and nodded slowly, her canine ears flopping gently as she completed the action. “Point taken.”
Wendy watched her muppet-like friends with interest, still a little unable to believe the situation that was happening around herself. Or the situation that would happen to herself...
“When will I change?” She asked, looking to her friends curiously. As odd of a thought that it was, it was comforting that she wasn't the only one who was changing.
Lily tilted her head curiously. “You haven't felt itchy at all lately? No scratching, an odd sensation to strip yourself of your clothing?”
“No.” Wendy said, realizing why her friends seemed to be fidgety this afternoon. They had to have been incredibly uncomfortable wearing all of those clothes on over their fur!
“Hm.” Lily tilted her head. “Intrrrstrrrng.” She blinked, then shook her head out as though clearing her thoughts.
“Um... Is Mrs... Is Lily okay?” Wendy looked to Sally and Chloe, the girls sighing and massaging their temples respectively.
“Well, hopefully she will be after this...” Chloe moaned, looking at Wendy. “She really wanted to tell you the good news, too.”
“News?” Wendy blinked, looking back down to the sheepdog to see her breasts receding into her body; the woman's eyes darkening to a dull canine brown once more.
Lily panted dumbly and barked; then blinked oddly as a glimmer of intelligence returned to her eyes. Then she barked again excitedly, running in a small circle as though she was looking at her canine body for the first time.
“Well, that might be good for that theory.” Sally smiled with relief. “Mom, bark the square root of twenty-five if that's you in there.”
Lily looked to them and promptly responded. “Arf, arf, arf, arf, arf!”
Wendy stared on in confusion as the two dog-like women applauded heartily, and she found herself unable to restrain here questions any longer. “Just what in the hell is going on?” She asked with wide eyes.
“Well...” Chloe grinned at Wendy, revealing an impressive set of canine teeth. “This is a little theory Lily had about the virus. Each time we change, we keep a little bit more of our minds. Until finally you end up with a dog with a person's brain.”
Sally scritched at the back of one of her floppy ears with a sheepish grin. “But on the other hand, when you're in the interim stages like this, you also lose some of yourself.”
“Okay... So how is any of that good news?” Wendy asked in confusion, arching an eyebrow.
“Well...” Sally grinned up at her. “As it turns out, not only are men immune to the virus, but there's also a really high immunity rate among women, too. One in four, by my mom's estimate.”
Wendy paused, looking at the three women in the room, then breaking out into a relieved giggle. “So you mean to say...”
“We're not a hundred percent sure yet, but we think that you might not end up changing after all.” Chloe smiled, petting Lily behind her head.
The sheepdog gave a patronizing huff but made no efforts to stop the scratching, much to the collective amusement of the gathered girls. Apparently being in control of yourself when you were in a canine body was quite the experience.
Chloe paused her scratches to look up to the human girl in their midst. “But we're not a hundred percent sure if that theory is correct, or just a theory. Still, if you do end up changing, you won't be in too bad of a place.”
Lily barked her agreement, wagging her tail. Then she promptly rolled onto her back, wriggling her belly so that the girls could rub it.
Wendy chuckled uneasily. “Yeah, well... No offense, but I'd rather stay on two feet than fall to all fours, if you know what I mean.”
“Oh, no. We understand a hundred percent.” Sally lifted her paws with a smile. “The dog life isn't for everyone... Just promise me you won't get jealous if you don't transform?”
At that, Wendy laughed heartily. “No worries there. Besides, someone needs to take you for walks from time to time, right?”
The three girls broke out into peals of mirth, and even Lily joined them with amused barks of her own. Still, the relief was a little forced, as the girls didn't know whether or not Wendy would be transforming.
Then a day passed. And another. By the third, the girls were sure that Wendy didn't have the virus. And by the fourth, they were ready to have a party in celebration of the fact.
It was on this fourth day that Wendy opened the door to find a pair of dogs waiting for her, carrying a basket in their mouths.
“Srrprrrse!” Chloe managed, immediately identifiable from the pink collar around her neck.
Wendy laughed and ushered the two in, taking the basket so they could talk. “So as you can see, four days and not a single sign of fur.”
“And as you can see, four days and I've quite a bit more.” Sally responded with a smile, her human nose looking out of place on her muzzle.
“Mrre trr.” Chloe spoke, sticking out a tongue that was undeniably human.
“Um...” Wendy looked down to Chloe. “How come she's having trouble talking?”
Chloe's ears drooped and she positively whined, tucking her tail between her legs.
Sally, on the other paw, laughed heartily, looking at her friend happily. “Well, as you know my mother and I are well-versed with languages. Speaking with a muzzle is hardly anything for such a pair of cunning linguists.”
“Keep talking like that and I'll need to insist you buy me a drink first.” Wendy winked at her friend mischievously. She smiled as her friends broke out into barks, stooping down to find a cake and two boxes of dog treats in the basket.
“Lrrly prrked it.” Chloe growled, her eyes crossing as she worked her muzzle to for human words.
Wendy smiled. “Speaking of, where is the woman? I thought she'd be here to celebrate with us.”
“Well...” Sally's lips quirked into a small frown. “She said she had some research to take care of before—”
A frantic pounding at the door heralded the older woman's arrival and Wendy jumped in slight surprise, opening the door to see a bedraggled brunette awaiting her.
“Please tell me you haven't gone outside!” Lily exclaimed, barging into the room to hug Wendy tightly.
“What? Why not? Hang on, I thought you said that I was immune!” Wendy gasped, her mind sinking to the worst place possible.
“Immunity does not indicate infectivity! While men cannot transmit the virus, I've tested some recent samples and have found that no woman is truly immune!”
Wendy blinked, yelping in surprise. “What? I don't want to be a dog! Are you kidding me?” She stared in shock.
“No no, you won't, but... Have there been any women that you've been in contact with lately?”
At that, Wendy blanched. “Oh. Oh shit.”
Normally, Wendy was not nearly a girl for such coarse language—but right now proved an important exception. For right now, she had a visitor at her house, a girl who normally stayed a few miles away with her mother.
Wendy's adopted sister, Kayla, was staying at her house for the weekend. And right now, poor Kayla was just about to take her first trip into being a canine.
The dark-skinned girl in question pursed her lips tightly as she tapped her pencil against her desk, focusing on the homework that stood before her, acting as an impassable wall.
And that damnable itching along her neck certainly wasn't helping things! She scratched at herself irritatedly, wondering what had caused this. She certainly hadn't gotten it from going outside—the girl had been a recluse for finals, only leaving for school.
Such was the price of being overly studious. Kayla yawned again, stretching out her arms between scratches. Maybe that was it. Maybe she just needed to have a break.
The girl sighed and slid back from her table and heading out to the family room with a mild yawn. “Hey sis.” She said, dropping to the couch and clicking on the TV. “Hope you don't mind if I take a break... Do you have company over?”
At this point, Wendy blanched and hurriedly covered Sally's nose with her hands, making it look like she was scratching the dog. “Yeah, don't worry about it. It's just a few friends is all. I mean a friend and a few dogs.”
Chloe rolled her eyes, giving an monotoned “arf”. She looked to Wendy in disbelief, wondering why the girl wasn't telling her sister anything. Was it because she thought that Kayla might be immune, too?
The girl in question sighed as the itching only seemed to increase, her shoes feeling positively uncomfortable on her feet, and the girl slipped them off, removing her socks as an afterthought. “Hey, hope you don’t mind if I let my feet breathe.” It had felt like she'd been wearing her footwear for days at a time, and an audible sigh of relief escaped her lips as her toes tasted fresh air.
“Wow, you really needed to take those off, huh?” The older woman asked, a frown on her face.
“Yeah, it feels like my feet were kind of… Well, you know. Cramped.” Kayla smiled and shrugged, scratching her feet idly. She’d look for some cream for it tomorrow; right now all she wanted to do was relax.
The dark-skinned girl curled her toes with enjoyment, smiling with pleasure at the sensation of air around her bare feet. Come to think of it, her clothes were starting to feel a little uncomfortable as well... She fidgeted with her clothes; then yelped in surprise as one of the dogs bounded onto her lap, sniffing Kayla curiously.
“You feeling okay, sis?” Wendy asked, an unnatural note of concern in her voice.
“Hm?” Kayla blinked, looking back to the blond with a small smile on her face. “Little tired; little mad with homework.” She scratched at her feet as she spoke, and Wendy's older friend spoke.
“Are you sure? Not itchy at all; don't feel like your clothes are ill-fitting?” The woman said, crossing her arms curiously.
Kayla blinked and turned to them with wide eyes. “You know, now that you mention it... You're right. Who are you, anyways?” A soft, interrogative bark left her mouth, but she didn’t notice thanks to the mental ordeal that was senior year AP homework.
The woman extended her hand. “Hello, dear. I'm Lily Hayward—call me Lily—and right now, you're about to transform into a dog.”
Kayla nodded slowly, looking at the woman, then seeing the CDC insignia emblazoned on her coat, a sigil which she'd left covered until evidently being sure that Kayla was sick.
“I'm so sorry!” Wendy sobbed, her eyes misting over. “This is all my fault, I really should have warned you!” As she spoke she stopped covering the other dog's nose, revealing it to be oddly human.
Kayla processed all of this; then looked to the dog in her lap.
Of course it began to speak. “Rrt mrrt seem lrrrike a lorrt to prrrocess.”
Kayla nodded slowly, then looked back to Lily. “I believe you.” She said slowly, nodding to herself again, abnormally clam for being eighteen years old. Then again, she was also in advanced classes for a reason. “Okay, calm down. Let's take this from the top.”
Lily blinked in surprise, them smiled. “I like her. Wendy, I'm going to borrow her after CTD runs its course; I could use an intern that doesn't panic when a petri dish breaks.”
“Mom! I thought we agreed to drop that! Besides, you said that you were culturing HIV!” The dog with a human nose yelped, evidently hurt—and evidently capable of speaking fluent English.
“And did you swab the culture and apply it to an open wound on your body? Now hush, people are talking.”
Kayla pointed to the dog with a girl's nose curiously. “So... I take it she's your daughter? Or at least, she was before... Changes happened?” Her heart began to race with fear in her chest—she didn't want to be a sheepdog!
Wendy smiled with relief. “You know, you're taking this a lot better than I thought you would.” Then she squeaked with surprise as the girl's head snapped to glare at her.
“The fact that I appear calm does not mean that I am calm—and the fact that you seem to know these dogs,” she gestured to Sally and Chloe, “who I can only assume is responsible for my apparent infection.”
Kayla scratched at her arm for emphasis, feeling what she knew could only be the onset of fur as her pores began to ache. She glared at Wendy closer, telling instantly from the young woman's expression that she was dead on.
“Um...” Wendy muttered. “I love you? If it helps, Lily here used to be a dog and she's normal again!”
“After rrrn wrrk.” The dog with a human nose growled. “Rrr. Shrrt.” With that, her nose began to darken on her face, flattening out into a canine snout as she twitched it in mild surprise.
The other talking dog seemed to be just as bad off, her eyes crossed as she tried to look at a tongue that was only growing longer and longer by the second. Just like that, the two were complete animals, barking to one another excitedly as some degree of intelligence reasserted itself.
“So... I'll be a smart dog?” Kayla squeaked as white hairs pushed herself from her dark skin, like the first snow on a parking lot. At least that was some small comfort; she didn't want to lose her mind!
“Um...” Wendy squeaked, darting behind Lily. “You take it from here?”
“What do you mean ‘take it from here’?” Wendy snapped, a little harsher than she’d intended. She whimpered; then realized that if fur was growing over her body, it would surely be growing across her face as well! The girl stumbled to the nearest mirror, her eyes wide with dread.
Sure enough, her reflection revealed that her eyebrows were thickening, her cheeks itching as long and hairy whiskers pushed out from them. Of course she grew a thick and furry mustache too, and the girl huffed in distress, feeling her new hairs quivering beneath her nose.
“Um… Any time, Lily. Come on…” Wendy chuckled a little nervously, worry setting deep into her heart.
Kayla's feet cramped as her sister spoke, and she looked down and winced as her bones cracked and popped; her arches shortening and her toes bulging out as they began to transition into the paws of a canine.
Her toenails grew thicker and longer, becoming the unkempt claws of a dog; and her soles began to plump and swell with the thick growth of paw pads. She looked down in surprise as long and bushy white hairs extended all across her skin, even pressing out between her new pads.
All the while, Kayla's heart was hammering at her impending transformation into a dog. Truth be told, she'd always been afraid of werewolves, and the girl had no intentions of becoming an animal at some callous virus's behest.
“Sweetie, I don't want you to panic. But for these first few changes, you're not really going to be yourself. And during the day your dog personality will bleed over into your normal one.” Lily began, raising her hands nonthreateningly. Evidently she’d found the right way to phrase it—and to her credit, it was actually calming her a little.
“What?” Kayla shrieked, her eyes wide as she stared at the matronly woman. What did she mean by that? As if to echo her cry, her hips snapped and sent her to a hunched position on her chair.
Reluctantly the girl slid from it as Lily moved to assist her, her task made a little less embarrassing by the pair of dogs that padded over to her sides, nuzzling her and licking her cheeks.
“But after a week, as you can see from me, you'll be perfectly fine. You might occasionally have a random transformation, but those are all totally controllable; you only lose your mind if you want to.”
Kayla looked up at the doctor incredulously. “Why would I ever want to?” As she spoke the fur began growing in earnest, making her clothes feel awkward and stuffed on her body. She growled instinctively and blushed behind furry cheeks.
“Well... You'll see why.” Lily responded mysteriously. “But don't worry, I'll be here for you all the while—as will my daughter and her friend.”
The two dogs barked eagerly, licking Kayla more and making her have to shake out her furry head to dry it. “My clothes feel funny.” Kayla muttered, looking up to Lily for help.
She'd have done it herself, of course—only her hands were beginning to cramp up just as her feet had done. Sure enough, her fingers had begun to plump up and her palms were becoming paw pads.
“Yeah, let me help with that.” Wendy immediately offered, glad to help alleviate some of her guilt.
Kayla laughed as Wendy helped to sweep the shirt from her body, wriggling out of it with a smile as her furry body felt the sweet taste of the cool evening air. She looked up at her sister with a smile and shook her head out again as her ears grew longer.
“Just so you know, I don't blame you.” Kayla said, hoping to get the words out while she could. “I'm sure you had no idea what you were doing. Just wanted to get my trrr cent irrrn.”
The girl blinked as her throat began to ache, and she twitched a furry cheek with irritation. So much for a verbose apology, but she'd said what she intended to say. Then she yelped in surprise as Wendy embraced her in a tight hug.
“You're the best sister that I could have ever asked for!” The blond squeaked tightly, hugging the transforming girl tighter and making her spine pop and straighten.
Kayla squeaked back, feeling her aching back begin to lengthen into a tail that wagged like mad. She blushed at the overtly canine expression of happiness, then instinctively licked her sister's cheek.
Of course this came with a change of its own too, and the girl's tongue lengthened as she brought her head up, making it hang loose from her mouth. Though this only lasted for a moment, her jaw cracking out into a short muzzle a few moments later.
Kayla slurped her long doggy tongue into her mouth the first second she could, blushing madly at the fact that it had escaped her in the first place. Then she nuzzled her sister, pressing her nose into Wendy's cheek just as it turned dark and flattened out on her face.
Wendy laughed and tousled her sister's long and floppy ears, stepping back with a smile to let the girl fall to all fours.
The moment all of the girl's paws met ground, her arms and legs shortened; the rest of her body swelling out to a proper canine posture. As impossible as it felt to Kayla, she was really a dog.
Then her brain started to feel fuzzy, and with a yip of surprise, Kayla found herself beginning to lose the ability to rationalize this situation. She should be scared, but instead a big happiness was blooming in her tummy. Her tummy! She wanted a belly rub!
The girl rolled onto her back and panted happily, losing the rest of her mind to a sinfully pleasurable belly rub. Then she padded to all fours and had the best night of her life playing with her sister-owner, sister-owner's bigger friend; and her two new doggy pals.
The next morning came all too soon, and Kayla found herself stretching and running her hands through her mussed hair. The girl yawned loudly and looked to the other girls beside her; the two of them apparently glad to be human once more.
“Oh my God, it's been so long since I had hands!” Sally laughed.
The other girl nodded and laughed as well, hugging her friend tightly and smiling at her contentedly. Then she turned to Kayla with a smile, not having introduced herself yet. “I'm Chloe.”
“Kayla.” Wendy's sister replied with a nervous smile. She brushed one hand behind her neck and stiffened at the feel of long white hairs just beneath her hairline. “Um... Should I not have changed back all the way?”
“Yeah...” Sally sighed. “It takes a while for you to go back to being a full human. But let's save that for later. For now, is there anyone you might have run into since you came to Wendy's?”
At that, Kayla blanched. “Um. I attend an all-girl's school, and I just had my senior party blowout...”
“Oh.” Chloe and Sally said simultaneously, both of them wondering how to tell Lily that the situation had just snowballed.
Hours later, miles away, the same scenario that had afflicted the friends began anew, with one of Kayla's classmates.
Sun sighed as she shut the door to her room behind her, rubbing at the scratches on her arm. Since when was her cat so grouchy? It was almost like he didn't want to be with her...
The girl let her mind wander as she tucked herself into bed, ignoring the strange itch that had begun to creep along her body.
And this same scene took place across the county, dozens of women beginning to find themselves growing hairier and hairier.
In one house, a college-bound girl looked up from her dessert as her parents stared at her. “Honey”, the mother began, “did you put some white dye in your hair?”
The girl looked up in surprise, brushing a hand through her hair and gasping at the sight of her mother’s hair growing white streaks as well. “If I did, it must be corrrntagious.” She said, her voice warbling as a low and canine growl found its home in her throat.
The mother opened her mouth to ask about the growl, but she found a bark emerging from her own lips. A blush crept across her cheeks, cheeks which were beginning to grow lush white fur of their own.
Across the street from this dinner some med students were having a sleepover, only to find themselves collectively stripping as their clothes began to feel uncomfortable. “I feel weird...” One started, slipping off her top and scratching at her underarms as thick, bushy hair began to sprout from her body.
Her friends would have commented on it were they not distracted by hairs of their own, across their bellies; over their faces; along their legs… The poor girls found themselves howling with dismay; then barking excitedly as they lost the capacity for human thought, instead falling into the canine bliss of happy playing.
And in one particular McDonald's, the clientèle began to find themselves getting hairier and hairier as an immune cashier could only gawp in surprise as her restaurant became full of sheepdogs. She squeaked as they collectively turned their heads towards the sizzling meat behind her, and before the girl could close the gate to the restaurant, the pack pounced behind the counter, happily devouring a week’s supply of hamburgers.
One way or another, it seemed as though this town's transformations were just beginning...
