Kristine had just been hired at Mr. Brown’s company, and was very surprised that she got to go to the party. Not bad for someone who had faked her resume, she thought. She was enjoying the menagerie of cute dolls piling up as people donated them for the auction, and wondered about bidding on one, when Mr. Brown approached.

He complimented on her on the work she was doing, but brought up some of the experience she put on her resume. It turned out that one of her employment references was at the party, and hadn’t heard anything about her. Instead of coming forward with the truth, Kristine doubled down on her lie. Given how well she had been performing, Mr. Brown was willing to overlook the first fib. If she had just come clean.

Kristine wasn’t terribly surprised that she had been fired, but was very surprised when Mr. Brown gave her a new job. This one would make it a tad bit more difficult to lie.
