Quinn looked around nervously at the customers in the store, who had thankfully not seen her yet. “Genie,” she whispered, hoping the magical woman was still near. “This isn’t what I meant!”
“What do you mean?” Her voice came through the ether, unseen and unheard by anyone but Quinn. “You wished to be a princess, to have your own castle, and to be a great dancer. I have given you all these things.”
“Yes, but why am I a doll in a store?”
“What, do you think I can just insert you into some royal lineage? Then, I’d have to make your parents royalty, too, and your brothers, and cousins. It’s a lot of work. And I can’t just give you ownership to some old castle. Think of the paperwork involved! You wouldn’t like it, anyway. They’re drafty and terrible places to live. They don’t even have wifi! A toy castle is much more fun.”
“Ok, but there are shoppers here, and I have a price tag, and I can’t leave this display. Can you change me back quick?”
“Master, you sound terribly ungrateful for everything I’ve given you.” The unseen spirit whispered, and Quinn shook her head.
“No! No, I am not ungrateful,” She said, not wanting to get on the Genie’s bad side. “I just think there’s been a miscommunication. Can we go back to a few minutes ago?”
“Time travel? Hah! That’s even more difficult than forgiving your student loans,” the Genie said, her effervescent form swirling around Quinn.
“I can still wish, right? You never actually said I get three. So, I wish I was human again.”
“Sorry, all wishes are final, Master. I can’t undo Genie magic, not even my own. You’re a doll now. And it looks like someone just noticed you.”
Quinn looked and noticed a handsome man noticing her. The doll’s eyes went wide as he began to walk to her display, her heart racing from nervousness. “I didn’t know you were an evil Genie!”
The spirit laughed, her voice right against her ear, speaking in an excited little whisper. “I know why you protest, Master; it’s part of your game. But I know your innermost fantasies. I know the pictures you look at on DeviantArt. I knew the moment you released me. You want to be owned, totally and completely. To be a pretty thing played with and passed on from owner to owner. To be an object for the pleasure and entertainment of others. To be a doll, helpless and obedient. I am no evil Genie; I give my Masters exactly what they desire.”
