It was going to be an exciting day. Today would be the day that he was going to meet someone from his age from the neighborhood. He sat on the ground playing with a few of his toys but since he was so excited, he just kept waving with the toys and slamming them into the floor.
"Phineas dear, I know you can't wait but please don't break anything. I hope I don't have to remind you of the vase from last week" Linda said. She still had to get used to the fact that she was now a single mother of two children. It had been hard and she knew that her family needed a father-person but she had been able to manage so far.
"Sowwy" the 2-year-old said with a cute smile. It was the kind of smile you couldn't stay angry with.
"Mommy? Is that other kid a boy or a girl?" Candace asked. "If it's a girl, I bet she wants to play with me and my dolls! Maybe she'll like my Ducky Momo collection!"
"Well that will be a surprise to you two then" Linda said. "Vivian will be here soon"
Phineas always liked when Vivian came over. He thought she sounded funny. Phineas had no idea though that Vivian was a mother as well. Not that it mattered much to him but he sure was excited about it now!
"But mommy! I wanna know!" Candace said.
"Oh calm down, Candace! You'll find out so-" Linda wanted to say when the bell rang. "... you'll find out now." She then went to the door.
"YAAYAYYAYYAYAYAY" Phineas squealed with joy. They were here! Candace was excited as well. She had known Vivian was a mother, but the gender of the child was still a mystery to her. Was it a boy or a girl? She had to find out!
"Hello, good to see you two again, oh you've grown so much since I last saw you!" Vivian said upon entering the room. She always said that when she saw the two Flynn-kids.
"I gwown a lot!" Phineas always yelled that in excitement when hearing this. Candace then always said "I'm glad you noticed" with a smile.
"Well, I think they can't wait any longer" Linda told her friend.
"Right you are, Isabella, you can come out now" Vivian said with a smile.
"YAY, it's a girl!" Candace yelled in excitement.
Phineas didn't care whether it was a boy or a girl, somebody his age was somebody his age.
Just then, they could see a small hand reaching around the door-frame followed by the face of a shy, black-haired girl with two pink ribbons in her hair to make pony-tails.
"Oh don't be shy Isa, they're not going to bite you" Vivian reassured her, after which she turned to Linda and said "That girl can be so shy at times. She needs to learn that other people aren't scary."
That's when Isabella decided to step into the room as well. She looked at the other kids. First there was Candace. Candace looked at her with a smile "Hey, I'm Candace, nice to meet you!" Isabella smiled back in return saying "I iz Izabella." Then she looked at the red-headed boy. That's when she started to have a look of amazement. Something about the boy seemed very good. No, not good, GREAT. It was something she couldn't explain.
Phineas looked at Isabella with the same amazement. Something about her seemed to be so... perfect. He couldn't really explain it either.
"W-whasha doin'?" the girl asked him.
"P-pwaying wif a car" the boy replied.
"Aww, I think they like each-other" Linda said with a smile. "We'll let you play with each-other then. Would you like some coffee Viv?"
"Yes please. Have fun Isa" Vivian said with a smile and with that, the two mothers left the room.
"So you're called Isabella huh? I like your ribbons! Do you like Ducky Momo? I bet you do! I got lots of Ducky Momo stuff in my room! Oh wait, I'll get them!" Candace said and with that, she left the room as well.
Candace's constant talking only confused Isabella a bit. She was just interested in the boy so when Candace was gone, Isabella crawled towards him.
"I'm Vineas!" Phineas said with a smile to her.
"I'm Izabella" the girl replied with a smile.
"You cjooot!" Phineas then said.
Isabella smiled in return and said "you too!"
Both smiled at each-other for a while until Isabella saw something creeping over the floor. It made her scream. "AAAAAAAAAAAAH CWEEPY FING!"
Phineas was startled and looked to see what it was. "Dere you are, Pewwy!"
The platypus had just come into the room. It had been Phineas's pet for a few months now and it started to get used to its new environment.
Isabella was still startled by what she saw. Vivian entered the room to see why her daughter was screaming.
"What is wrong, sweety?" she asked concerned.
Isabella pointed towards the platypus which only clattered in reply.
"dat's Pewwy!" Phineas then said, still oblivious to the fact that Isabella found him creepy.
"Oh don't worry Isabella, that's just their pet, just like ours. Only ours is a dog. This is a platypus" Vivian said with a smile.
"Pewwy cjooot!" Phineas said in excitement.
"Pewwy like Pinky?" Isabella asked her mother.
"Yes, Perry is like Pinky" Vivian replied.
This reassured Isabella a bit. There was nothing to be scared of. When Vivian saw this, she left the room again.
"Izzy wanna touch Pewwy?" Phineas asked the girl.
Isabella liked what he just called her and smiled. Then she looked at the platypus again. Touch it? Well, how bad can it be right? "Okwee."
With that, Phineas stood up and walked towards the platypus.
"Pewwy, dis is Izzy!" he said.
Perry clattered again. Isabella thought this sound was really funny.
"Come Izzy!"
"Okwee Vin!" With that, Isabella walked over to the platypus as well.
Phineas also liked the name he had been given just now by his new friend.
"Pewwy likes stwoking!" Phineas said with a broad smile.
Perry obviously didn't do anything and just sat, waiting for a stroke over his back. His owner didn't know it, but Perry had secretly been trying to stand on only his hind-legs instead of all fours. He really wanted to be able to walk around on 2 legs instead of four. In fact, he had secretly begun a race with his owner: who would be able to walk sooner, he or Phineas.
Slowly, Isabella reached out to touch Perry.
"No wowwy, pewwy no bite!" Phineas said. He had obviously learned that line from Vivian just now. Isabella laughed at this and sure enough, she was stroking the platypus. Perry clattered in return.
"Pewwy happy!" Isabella said with a smile of amazement.
"Yes, yes he is!" Phineas replied.
Just then, Candace returned from her room. When she saw Isabella play with Phineas and Perry, she couldn't help but find it all a cute picture. Then she remembered all of the stuff she had in her hands and walked over to the three.
"Look Isabella! I got few stuffed Ducky Momo's! Oh and you'll LOVE the poster in my room!" Candace said.
Isabella looked at the stuffed animals that Candace had brought for her. "Ducky Momo!" Isabella said. Sure enough, she was a fan of the duck as well. Immediatly, she hugged one of the ducks tightly.
"Come on, I'll show you my room! Phineas, you can play with Perry, right?" Candace said, picking up Isabella.
Phineas looked at her rather confused. She was taking Isabella away?
Isabella herself was confused as well. She wanted to stay with Phineas. "Why no Vineas go too?" she asked.
"Because my room is for girls only!" Candace replied with a wink. Isabella still didn't get it though.
Phineas was left behind with the platypus, still staring at the door through which Candace just went with his new friend.
"So, what do you think?" Candace said, opening the door to her room.
Isabella just stared at what she saw. She had to admit, it was a really great room. She might even make her room look like this one.
"Amaaazing" the little girl said.
"I knew you'd like it! Oh, and there's the Ducky Momo poster I told you about! Here, let me get you on my bed, you can see it better from there!" Candace said.
"Den we go to Vineas again?" Isabella asked.
Candace looked at her as if Isabella had said something stupid. She just shrugged it off though and said "oh don't worry, he's got Perry!"
That wasn't really the answer Isabella wanted to hear but just as she was about to say so, she was distracted by the Ducky Momo poster. "Oh Ducky Momo!"
"I knew you'd like it! Wait, didn't I already say that? Hmm, oh well" Candace said with a smile.
"Ducky Momo!" Isabella said again. Something about the duck made every toddler (and the occasional 7-year-old) yell in joy when seeing him.
"So anyway, what did you want to do, Isabella?" Candace asked her.
The little girl's attention was drawn from the poster again at this question. "Go see Vineas!" Isabella said with a grin.
Candace again put on a frown. What was it with her that she wanted to stay with her little brother so badly. She was a girl and girls should like to hang around with other girls right? She had always enjoyed being with the girls herself so why was Isabella so different?
Meanwhile, Phineas was looking at Perry again. "You know why Izzy taken way?" he asked. Perry just clattered in reply. The platypus had gotten used to the fact that his owner liked to talk with him or even ask him questions. He would always clatter in return, no matter how old it gets or how odd the question is.
"One day, me gunna find out what ggggrrrrrrr mean!" Phineas said with an excited smile, yet serious attitude. When Phineas said something like this, he meant it. It wasn't a dream like any toddler would have. Of course, finding out what the noise of a platypus meant seemed kind of impossible for today's technology but Phineas said it with such determination that you couldn't argue with the red-head. He was going to do find it out, no matter what.
But wait, that wasn't important right now. Isabella was. Even though he had only known her for a few minutes and exchanged only a few words, he had felt a connection towards the black-haired girl. They were going to be great friends. But they had already been separated. Slowly, the red-haired boy tried to stand up.
The platypus smiled at him behind his back, expecting him to fall back on his bum any second. This time though, it was different. Phineas was still standing! Perry couldn't believe it, Phineas was actually standing! He clattered proudly, accepting defeat.
Phineas, oblivious to his pet's race, started walking towards the door. Walking already? That new girl must have been important then, Perry thought. Just then, Linda walked into the room again.
"... I don't know, Viv. I only just met him... Anyway, back to you guys, who wants..." Linda's eyes grew in amazement and shock. Two things were out of order here. One: Isabella and Candace were gone. She immediately took the conclusion that Candace must have taken Isabella to show her room, leaving Phineas behind. Two: Phineas was walking. "VIVIAN! COME SEE THIS!!" she yelled in excitement.
Vivian came dashing into the room, wondering what was the matter.
"Hey, where did Isabella go?" she asked.
"I think Candace took her but LOOK!" Linda said, pointing at her son. "His... first stepts!" she let out a tear of joy.
"Oh I'm so glad for you Linda" Vivian said, giving her a small hug.
Phineas was still just walking, oblivious to the fact that he had just made him mother incredibly proud. He was nearly at the stairs when his mother picked him up to hug him. Phineas didn't mind getting hugged of course, but not if it meant that he might soon have to walk all this way all over again.
"I'm so proud of you!" Linda said.
"Mommy, Candy took Izzy!" the boy said.
"Izzy? Aww, he already gave her a nickname" Vivian said with a smile.
"Izzy back down?" Phineas said.
"Ah right, I'll go talk to Candace, you stay here okay?" Linda said, bringing the red-head back to where he first was near the platypus.
Candace was showing Isabella what seemed like the hundredth Ducky Momo item she owned, making Isabella sigh again. She had had enough now. She liked Ducky Momo, but she didn't want to get engulfed by it.
Just then, Linda entered the room. "Young lady, you have some explaining to do!" she said.
Candace looked at her with wide eyes. "What did I do?"
"I don't mind that you want to show Isabella your room, I even encourage that, but leaving Phineas behind is not what I had in mind" the mother said.
"But mooooom, Phineas was having fun with Perry!" the 7-year-old said with a frown.
"Well Phineas went as far as walking to get here as well" Linda said.
"W-walking? Phineas walked? Oh my gosh that's too cute!" Candace said.
"Yes indeed. It looked cute too. Oh where was I, oh right... just be nice to your brother for a change and listen to your guests. Isabella, what do you want to do?" Linda asked.
Isabella's eyes widened when she was addressed. "Go to Vineas!" she brought out with a smile.
"See Candace, she wants to pway... I mean play with Phineas" Linda said.
"Oh but mooom, this is soo unfair! I never get to have a friend over while Phineas gets lucky all the time, and he's not even learned how to use the toilet!" Candace said.
"Listen Candace, there will be a girl your age that will love to hang around with you and shares your obsession with that duck or something but that girl is not Isabella."
Candace sighed in defeat. "Yes mom" she reluctantly said.
"Good. Now, let me get you back to Phineas, Isabella" Linda said, making the toddler yell in joy, much like Phineas had done when Vivian had arrived that morning.
Candace however was not happy at all. In fact, she was feeling quite sad. It was true, whenever there was a kid coming over, they would always happily play with Phineas while Candace was always 'the annoying older sister. Don't mind her'. When Linda was gone, Candace left her room as well but instead of going down to where Phineas was having fun again now that Isabella was back, she went outside. She made her way over the sunlit path towards the pavement. She placed herself there, looking at the street. It was a warm summers-day so she didn't feel cold, yet she did. Cold of sadness. Sure, she had friends, but she lacked a best friend with which she could talk on and on about anything. All of her friends either already had a best friend or were boys.
"Mooom, why couldn't I stay at home!" a girl with black hair yelled in annoyance somewhere on the other side of the street.
"Because, dear, I couldn't find a babysitter on such short notice. Besides, I'm sure you'll enjoy watching me heal people" the mother said with a smile much like the one Linda had pulled towards Candace when explaining about leaving Phineas behind.
The black-haired girl sighed in annoyance again. Sure, she liked seeing her mother doing her job, but it happened just too often as of late.
For some reason, Candace could relate to what the unknown girl was going through. Suddenly, Candace had an idea which might satisfy both of them. The girl would be saved from an afternoon of boredom and Candace might end up with a new friend! She had to act fast though if she were to carry out her plan.
"Vineas!" Isabella said with a smile when she was placed down next to the boy again.
"Izabella!" Phineas replied with a smile. Both were very glad to be brought together again.
"Whacha doin'?" the girl asked.
"Waiting fo you!" the boy replied happily. Though he had already heard that sentence that morning, he kind of liked it already.
Linda and Vivian looked at their children having fun. They didn't know it then but the children they had just brought together would grow up to be incredibly close friends, even to the point of love.
"Izzy! I know wha we gunna do today!" Phineas yelled in excitement.
Isabella happily asked what Phineas's idea was. When Phineas started explaining, the mothers decided it would be best to leave them alone.
"Mooom, I don't even need a babysitter. I can take care of myself" the black-haired girl said to her mother.
"Oh yes, you said that last time. I don't think I'll ever get that lemonade stain off the carpet" The mother replied.
"It was an accident. It would have happened anyway, even if I had a babysitter" the girl replied, folding her arms together.
"If you had a babysitter, the glass wouldn't have been so close to the edge of the table. Now I don't want to have this mood around the entire day so please cheer up a little, will you?"
"Fine!" the girl replied with a frown.
Just then, Candace crossed the street towards them. The black-haired girl could see her running towards them, thinking she must be going for the house behind them or something. The red-haired girl proved her wrong though.
"Hey! Best friend! Good to see you again!" Candace said, hugging the black-haired girl.
Both the girl and her mother were shocked.
"Uh... who are you?" the mother asked.
Candace looked at her with a smile. "I'm her best friend! My name is Candace Flynn, nice to meet you!"
The black-haired girl was still astonished by what had just happened. What was this strange girl hinting at? She didn't even know her yet she claimed she was her best friend. Just then, when the mother wasn't looking, Candace gave the black-haired girl a wink. That was when it all hit her. This girl was here to save her from a boring afternoon.
"Yes, this is.. Candy. So this is where you live then?" she said.
"Yep! Want to come over?" Candace asked.
"Moooom, can IIII?" the girl asked.
The mother scanned Candace a bit. "I don't see why you never mentioned her really... Oh sure, why not.You can go, sweety. I'll be back here again when I'm done. Have fun you two!"
"We will! Goodbye mom!" the black-haired girl said and together, they waved her goodbye. When they were sure that she was out of sight, the black-haired girl turned towards Candace.
"Thank you SO much! I owe you one!" she said.
"Oh it was nothing. I just thought that you needed some help back there" Candace replied.
"Well good thing you thought that then! Oh right, you still don't know my name. my name is Stacy. Stacy Hirano" the girl said.
"Nice to meet you Stacy. Would you like something to drink?"
"Sure!"
And with that, the girls entered the Flynn-house again, sealing their friendship.
Today was turning out to be a great day after all for Candace.
Phineas began talking to his new friend about what they could do. He went on and on about all the possibilities today had. Ideas from creating their own fantasy-world to building something huge with blocks.
All the while, Isabella listened intently, making comments on the ideas every now and then. She had only just met him, but she already loved his way of talking. It was very cheerful, carefree and above all, filled with fun and joy. She didn't know it then but this boy was going to be her partner for life.
Phineas, on his turn, loved talking but above all, he already loved talking to her. She shared his ideas of fun in many ways. He didn't know it either, but the girl he was now talking with so eagerly would grow up to one day become his bride.
A perfect match has been made, marking the first day of their lives together. Though this would not be the only strong bond Phineas Flynn, tinkerer of Danville, and Isabella Garcia-Shapiro, fireside girl of the century, would have.
"I'm sure you'll love America, son" an English father told his 2-year old son.
