Story Text:
“Your village?” Gareth asked hesitantly, glancing at the fairy before scanning the area once more, anxiously hoping to find his companions. Going with Mori would likely lead him toward this trial’s finish line, but there were more important things on his mind. “Yeah-- I’ll go with you, but I’m still waiting for the rest of my party,” he insisted.
Mori tilted her head. “Oh? I’m not surprised… Our realm is at the far recesses of the astral plane and is saturated with natural mana. Delays and time dilation are fairly common when coming here via portal,” she insisted. “I’m sure they will show up soon, and my sisters will happily lead them back to us when they do,” she promised.
Gareth saw the anxious, desperate look on Mori’s face as she clenched her hands and bit her lower lip. It seemed there was no other choice. “Okay, I trust you. But my party is important to me, so please ensure they find me safely,” he insisted before walking through the trees with the fairy.
For the first time since starting the trials, Gareth’s first concern at the start of a new phase was when he’d get to see Chalce and Ingrid again. The trial was important, of course, but it would all seem hollow without them at his side. After existing as a loner for so many years, he had forgotten what it’s like to forge such close bonds. ‘I haven’t known them that long,’ he mused, letting out a low sigh. It wasn’t like him to get attached so quickly.
“Another fairy clan has challenged us for our territory… While we are more magically inclined, they largely consist of warriors and athletes. With their raw numbers, it would be easy for them to overrun us. However, they are willing to settle this with a competition instead if we nominate a champion to fight on our behalf,” Mori said softly while they made their way through the enchanted meadow.
Gareth just nodded, taking in the important details while his mind swirled. ‘Bad fairies. Need champion to fight…’ His thoughts then segued into more pressing matters. After his last encounter with Chalce, they were a couple, right? What would she think if she saw him in a male body once more? Why couldn’t he be happier to have his male equipment back? Life had become far more complicated as of late.
They walked for over an hour, with Mori filling him in on some details about how the enemy fairies fought and about fairy culture in general. He would just nod and briefly respond, trying to absorb only the most important tidbits of information.
Eventually, they passed through some thick shrubbery and reached the fairy village, which was built amongst the trees. Housing and wooden constructs strewn with flowers, leaves, and vines, lined the tree branches and bodies, with wooden bridge paths connecting the structures. Fairies flitted about conversing, laughing, trading, and generally going about their lives. Gareth looked around and wondered how he was supposed to interact with the tiny race when they were so high up and out of reach.
“There’s space for larger races as well since we have larger fae beings living among us,” Mori said softly, noticing Gareth’s grimace as he peered upward. “Right this way.”
After another ten minutes of walking below the trees of the fairy village, they came to a section of massive trees, with bodies easily twenty feet wide and larger. They appeared to be partially hollowed out and made into human-sized living quarters, with other living spaces built into the occasional grassy hill. Despite the trees being hollowed out to live in, they appeared to be alive and flourishing.
Gareth admittedly felt a sense of awe and wonder, taking in the sights around him. The air glowed with occasional billows of translucent fog while nature spirits in the form of insects and forest creatures grazed and peacefully coexisted with the other fae. He was hardly paying attention when Mori led him to a large abode built into the side of a hill, furnished well with finely carved wood, and furniture that seemed to grow straight from roots and bark and into the necessary shapes.
“There will be room for all of you here, I’m sure,” Mori smiled, fluttering around Gareth as she inspected him. “You’re strong, right?? You must be to have gotten this far. Please meet our queen and accept her blessing-- please be our champion!” She begged, holding clenched hands in front of her chest,
Gareth still couldn't focus. Just as he was about to inquire about his friends, a pale fairy with flowing, wavy pink hair flew in through the open window. “M-- Miss Mori! Our guest’s friends just arrived. Luma is leading them here; it should only take an hour,” she said with a bright smile.
An overwhelming sense of relief overcame Gareth as he let out a low sigh, his anxiety melting away. That’s all he needed to know. “An hour? Alright, fine. Let me meet this queen of yours,” he agreed. It would be a good way to kill time while waiting for Chalce and Ingrid regardless.
“That’s great news, Iris! And that’s even better news, Sir Gareth!” Mori chimed. “Please-- right this way,” she eagerly insisted, leading Gareth out after he set some of his belongings down.
Mori led him back toward the trees that housed the smaller fairy village before turning part way through and leading him downhill through an area with thicker foliage and fog that obscured vision beyond a few feet. “Never try to reach this place without a guide; you could end up lost for weeks,” she warned.
Gareth nodded, not arguing the point. Even with his expert tracking ability, the mana-infused air and fog disoriented him. There was simply no way he’d ever attempt sudh a trek without a skilled guide. “You don’t need to worry… I understand why your queen would wish to be hard to find.”
It wasn’t long before they made it into a clearing without a veil of fog blocking their view. The large, circular area was enshrouded by thick thorn-covered vines that formed a barrier, leaving the path they took as the only viable way in or out.
Gareth stepped in cautiously, scanning his surroundings. Other than grass, flowers, and some flowering trees, the only object of note was a wooden, bark and leaf-covered structure near the back and center of the circular clearing. After looking for a few seconds, he realized it roughly took the shape of a chair-- or, perhaps a throne.
“Queen Fioré! I have brought a mighty champion, Gareth, who seeks to serve as our champion! He is a trial goer,” Mori exhuberantly called, cupping a hand around her mouth.
The pair waited in silence, a warm floral breeze wafting through the clearing. Gareth shifted anxiously, wondering how long it would take for the queen to arrive. After a minute passed, he just barely opened his mouth to speak when a loud gust of wind suddenly flooded the area.
Cherry blossoms swirled, enveloping the verdant throne while a soft white glow filled the air. Gareth’s eyes widened at the spectacle, watching in awe as a feminine shape appeared in the air before the throne, bathed in a silvery light.
“Sir Gareth,” a soothing voice from the figure called. The light dimmed, showing an extremely pale, diminutive woman. She was roughly Mori’s size, with a voluptuous figure and entirely nude except for the floor-length, gleaming silver hair that wrapped her body, just barely covering her crotch and breasts as it garbing her like an ethereal shawl. Atop her head were feathery moth-like antennae, along with large, gleaming moth wings, which were snow-white with silvery-gray rings and markings. “We have been waiting for someone of your ilk to aid us, and time is running out. The fact you’re here in our time of dire need can be no coincidence,” she insisted.
“I-- I will do what I can to help,” Gareth repliced, gazing upon the tiny queen as she descended to a mere three yards from his face.
“Mori is our greatest warrior, but our enemies pose a great threat in terms of raw combat ability,” Fioré continued, slowly floating around Gareth as she carefully inspected him. “I wish we had more time to grow acquainted, but time is of the essence,” she said sadly. “To answer a question I suspect you might have, I can assure that you and your party will pass onto the next trial upon helping my people; the great Gaia has graciously allowed this task to serve as a trial,” she promised.
Gareth’s heart rate picked up as he nodded his head. The sooner he passed the trials with Chalce and Ingrid, the sooner he could explore his budding relationship. “I understand; that works for me.”
“Sir Gareth, what is your weapon of choice?” Fioré inquired.
Gareth momentarily pondered the inquiry. “I’m skilled with maany weapons, but a broadsword-- or another type of heavy, one-handed blade. Paired with a short sword or otherwise,” he shrugged.
Fioré floated back and looked toward Mori. “You will test him,” she insisted before beginning to chant a spell.
Mori eagerly nodded and took a sharp breath as a pillar of glowing light enveloped her. In a matter of seconds, the tan fairy was human sized.
Gareth raised an eyebrow. This seemed a powerful type of magic; but he doubted this form could be maintained for long.
The fairy queen produced two seeds and threw them to the ground in front of Gareth and Mori. Shortly after, both seeds sprouted and grew, the one before Mori becoming an elegant, flower-wrapped, wooden rapier that she lifted and tested the balance of.
The seed before Gareth grew and turned into a long, heavy wooden sword with a broad blade, along with flowers and vines growing up the hilt and blade.
“Please spar with these weapons; they should be perfectly balanced. If you are to serve as our champion, you must be able to best Mori in combat at a bare minimum,” the queen insisted. She then glowed brightly, becoming human sized herself before floating to her throne and sitting, watching intently with one leg crossed over the other.
Gareth lifted the blade, extending his arm as he balanced the weapon on his outstretched fingers, finding the blade’s center of gravity. “I can work with this,” he confidently replied.
The next few minutes went by in a flash. Gareth overwhelmed Mori, defeated her, and was briefed by the excited queen on the next steps. He was to accept a fairy blessing from the queen and change form so he could serve as champion. Hearing this news made his heart race; what would that entail, exactly? Before, the prospect of transforming frustrated and frightened him, but he wasn’t so sure after all of the confusion he had recently dealt with.
He had a feeling of what accepting this blessing would actually entail, but he knew he couldn’t say no regardless. “I accept; give me your blessing and let me serve as your champion,” he insisted.
Another few seconds later, Gareth was enveloped by a silvery light just as Mori had been. He gasped loudly as powerful mana surged through him, permeating every cell of his being. A familiar potent tingling erupted from his chest and crotch while his body rapidly shrunk. Based on his experience since starting the trials, he knew the feeling between his thighs could only mean one thing.
‘I’ll be female again,’ he mused, feeling somewhat disturbed by the pang of excitement he felt over the prospect. “A-- ahhh!” He groaned as he continued to lose body mass, his voice heightening while his masculine facial features melted away.
Despite the rapid shrinking, his chest inflated into a set of budding tits, growing into a hefty, perky set that were proportionate to her body. “Mmm-- oooooh!” He squealed as he continued to lose body mass and soften. He shrunk to the point his clothes fell away, leaving him completely nude. Soon after, his genitals started their transformation once again, while her back tingled.
A set of gorgeous monarch butterfly wings sprouted from her back while her hips and ass widened, giving her a gorgeous, wide-hipped silhouette. On top of that, a small set of butterfly antennae sprouted atop her head.
When all was said and done, a tiny fairy-like Greta stumbled out of the heap of male clothing, her wings unconsciously fluttering as she rose into the air. “I-- i’m really a fairy,” she squeaked, holding her arms out as she glanced down at her naked form. It was hard to explain why, but she felt a sense of comfort and giddiness upon seeing her womanly figure. Thankfully, she noticed some muscle definition, her tummy, arms, and legs nicely toned. She could also feel her mana surging powerfully through her tiny frame.
“My Queen!” Iris’s voice chimed as she flitted in through the entrance. “The others have arrived,” she said with a warm smile.
Ingrid and Chalce stepped in, both back in their original forms. “Oh, wow…” Chalce chimed, looking around in awe. “Is Greta here?”
Greta blushed furiously, still floating in the air, completely nude and the size of a fairy. She crossed her arms and shifted her eyes away. “Y-- yeah, that would be me,” she murmured. This should prove interesting.
“Oh my,” Ingrid gasped, putting a hand on her cheek. “You’re so small.”
Chalce blinked and tilted her head before a wide grin spread on her face. “Oh my god-- you’re so freakin’ cute!!” She cried, running over to her precious love. “You’re like an adorable doll-- oh my god!” She hopped up and down, her smile turning devilish.
“G-- Great… I’m glad you approve,” Greta squeaked, turning away from Chalce in deep embarrassment. She wasn’t sure whether to be excited or concerned by Chalce’s reaction.
