It was the last day of Belle’s judgment period. Upon awakening, she went through her usual morning routine, her eyes sunken and dead. The fighting spark within her had nearly burnt up and she found herself simply going through the motions. ‘Cow… Cow… Good cow… Milking-- milkings, yes…’
She shuddered as Roger’s firm hands pumped her breatss and teats, relieving them of their tension. While one might expect she’d put up a fight, or at least groan and seethe, she showed no resistance. A visage of mixed pleasure and sadness marked her face as she trembled and let out small mooing sounds. ‘Milking-- feels good… Best time of the day-- yes… Best time for cow… I like milkings…’
Throughout her ordeal, she tried desperately to repress the welling feelings of existential dread. Hesat made it seem like she was doomed; she would soon transform fully into a fat dairy cow and live out the rest of her days as a farm animal while her friends and loved ones got to live their best human lives.
“M-- Mooo…” Belle mournfully whined once Roger finished, offered a few words of sympathy, and left the room. She stood idley, staring into space for a solid ten minutes as she continued to repress her emotions while icy claws of dread dug into her heart. Was this her life from now on? Just endless cycles of waking, getting milked, grazing all day, and shitting where she stood? With th eoccasional bull fucking here and there to spice things up. Was she really going to repeat these tasks ad nauseum until her life reached its end? The very thought made her stomachs churn.
She slowly sauntered into the pasture and was quickly assailed by the decadent fragrance of grass all around her. Despite her state of immense mental and emotional anguish, she began to salivate and felt her cow instincts kicking in. Whether she liked it or not, her body was now build for consuming grass; she was to eat like a cow-- live like a cow. To her dismay, the thought of eating the human foods she once loved repulsed her on a primal level. ‘I don’t… I don’t want to live like a cow…’ That single thought crept into her mind, planted right over her other irrational musings.
She winced as her neck lowered and her mouth opened. ‘I don’t-- I don’t want to eat grass… I don’t want to enjoy eating grass…’ She was supposed to be a good little cow, but she already felt like her life was over. How could she possibly be a ‘good little cow’ when Hesat had passed such harsh and unfair judgment upon her?
She took the grass into her mouth and chewed slowly, the earthy flavor coating her taste buds and urging her onward. Did she really deserve all of this? Had her crimes left her wholly irredeemable? She imagined Sophia, Bret, Daniela, and everyone else smiling and having a good time while a lonely, unremarkable cow mooed and defecated while mourning the life she once had. Her legs trembled as she continued to feast, tears welling in her eyes as she mused over the events in life that led her to this low point. Sure, she had made mistakes here and there, but she desperately yearned for another chance.
‘Why did you do this, Hesat?’ She thought with a tinge of anger. ‘I tried-- I tried to be a good little fucking cow… I’ve tried so hard-- isn’t that enough? Why the fuck are you doing this to me?’ Belle’s anger mounted, bubbling within her darkened psyche. She felt nothing but pure, unbridled hatred toward the goddess. ‘Is this funny to you? You’re a fucking bitch-- a goddamn psychopath. You have no right to do this to me… No fucking right,’ she spat and gritted her teeth angrily.
While grazing and seething, she caught a glimpse of her front-hooves, another eternal reminder of what she had lost. No longer did she have dainty, feminine digits with nails she could paint; no longer could she play video games, type, cook, or even through a damn frisbee. Her cloven extremities mocked her, reminding her that she was a half-cow freak who would be shunned by society.
“M-- Mmooooo…” She groaned angrily, her tail lifting as a stream of urine escaped her body. She tried desperately to repress the flow, but it was to no avail. She stayed rooted in place, legs spread as the golden liquid evacuated her body. ‘Stop-- stop, stop, stop… Fuck-- you were never going to change me back… This is a fucking game to you-- I need to fight… I have to fight this,” she growled, forcing herself to step back from her verdant meal.
The hours went on like this, with Belle going through cycles of grief, anger, depression, and the rest of the negative emotion rainbow. She spent the day like any cow would, the only difference being that the other bovines enjoyed a state of peaceful zen, basking in their simple lives while wholly content. Belle, on the other hand, would never rid herself of human ego and intelligence. She felt trapped and terrified, with nothing to grant her levity.
At the end of the night, she retired to her cowshed and laid in a heap, her body shaking. This was it, wasn’t it? There was no going back. She had been tested and managed to fail, falling on her ass and not living up to Hesat’s expectations. On top of all that, she was torn on whether she handled the last three days correctly. Hadn’t she done a good job behaving like a cow? Did it even matter? Was her fate sealed before she even came to Roger’s farm? All she could do was close her eyes and attempt to sleep as unwanted adrenaline coursed through her bloated, fur-covered form. After many hours, she managed to pass out into a troubled, nightmare-filled slumber.
Within the world of dreams, an unremarkable dairy cow grazed in a sunny pasture. With dark eyes, and black and white splotches all over, she was indistinguishable from any other fat, happy mooer.
“She’s up here,” Roger’s voice called.
The cow swiveled her head in a dazed and confused state, looking at the farmer. Was she supposed to be here? What was happening? Something didn’t seem right; had she always been a cow?
Sophia appeared before the cow, looking with sadness in her eyes. “Belle… It’s good to see you. I hope you’re hanging in there,” she said softly, reaching out to gently stroke the cow’s flank.
Bret was suddenly there as well, a similarly forlorn look on his face. “How are you holding out? I hear you’ve been a good girl for Roger; that’s good to hear,” he said warmly, his voice filled with pity.
Belle stared at them as a ball of anxiety formed within her. She wasn’t supposed to be a cow, was she? Snippets of human memory cascaded through her head, amplifying her sense of unease. “M-- Mooo…” She weakly replied. Surely she wasn’t meant to be standing on four hooves, unable to form human words.
“Don’t feel too bad,” Sophia said gently. “Bret and I have been doing really well. I know you wanted to be part of our lives, but I promise we’re still moving forward.”
Bret nodded. “Yeah! I know things didn’t work out between us, but Sophia and I have gotten closer since you’ve been staying here. You don’t need to worry about either of us being sad or alone.” WIth that, he reached over and laced his fingers with Sophia’s, both looking toward the other lovingly.
Belle stood frozen in a state of utter disbelief. More memories rushed back to her. Bret was her boyfriend, not Sophia’s. She was supposed to be the one holding his hand, happily in love. This wasn’t real, right? “M-- Moooo!” She wailed, stamping a hoof. How badly she wished to yell at them, to form the proper English words to express her fury. “M-- Mooooooooo!” Instead, only bestial cries escaped her clumsy lips, leaving her equal parts livid and humiliated.
Sophia looked at Belle, her lips curled into a frown. “I’m not sure if she can understand us.”
Bret shook his head. “It’s probably too much for her cow brain. She’s just livestock now,” he added, putting a comforting arm around Sophia’s waist.
“Belle… I’ll keep visiting you here, okay? And when we have children, we’ll bring them here to visit you as well. You’ll still be their auntie in spirit,” she promised.
Bret nodded. “Of course. I don’t know if you can understand a thing we’re saying, but we’ll still keep you in our lives. I’m sure life as a cow isn’t all bad; you never wanted to have to work a real job, right?”
“That’s a good point,” Sophia chimed, her face contorting to a bright smile. “She doesn’t have to worry about working some stuffy office job, or about people having expectations of her. Maybe she’s happier here than she was as a human.”
‘N-- NOOO! OF COURSE, NOT! I DON’T-- I DON’T WANT TO BE A FUCKING COW! HELP ME!’ She screamed internally, while more bovine sounds filled the warm, summer air.
“We’ll visit her again next month. Let’s go,” Bret insisted, bidding Belle farewell as he walked off hand-in-hand with Sophia.
Sophia waved to Belle. “See you soon. Keep being a good girl for Roger, okay?” She added as the couple headed off.
As they walked away, Belle continued to moo in protest, unable to come to terms with her terrible fate.
Belle’s eyes shot open and she immediately heard the sound of birds chirping in the distance while soft morning light illuminated her cowshed. She sat for a few minutes, giving ample time for the familiar anxiety and dread to churn and seep into her body’s every cell. What would happen today? Her trial period had ended and she was terrified to face her future.
Upon standing, she immediately noticed something off. Her vision seemed odd; the usual reds and oranges were dull, with yellows, greens, and shades of gray showing prominently. Panic set in as she barreled forward and forced herself out of the cowshed, not waiting for Roger to show up. ‘My sense of vision-- what… What happened?’ This wasn’t a good sign.
As she walked forward, she became aware of another change. The pendulous set of tits hanging from her chest had partially deflated, appearing only half their usual size. On top of that, her body seemed to move differently in general, with the feminine motion of her ass and hips somewhat diminished.
“There you are,” Roger said as he approached Belle.
The confused cow looked toward Roger with alarm. “W-- Whm-- mroooo! Ahhooooo!” She tried helplessly to form a coherent sentence, but completely failed to do so. Her tongue was even thicker now, with her mouth feeling more elongated than before. Belle’s nightmare became clearer by the second.
“I’m sorry,” Roger said sympathetically. “The arrangements are already made. I promise I’ll give you a good life here on the farm. The transformation will likely complete within the next couple of days. Your eyes have changed quite a bit, so you might start seeing the world like a cow if you haven’t already.”
Belle froze in place, staring at Roger as an intense ringing downed out all other sound. Was this still a nightmare? This wasn’t real, right? It took her a little time to fully comprehend the gravity of Roger’s words. Was it all over, now? There were no more chances? This had to be a sick joke; she refused to accept her new reality as a goddamn farm animal who sits around being lazy all day while shitting everywhere. What about her future? What about getting married and starting a family? Her career? Her life? All of it.
“I know this is a lot to take in, but nothing can be done now. It’s normal to mourn the loss of your future as a human, but it might do you well to try looking on the bright side as well. There are benefits to being a cow as well; if you only focus on the negative, life will be much more difficult.” Roger knew his words likely rang hollow, but he wanted to help her in some way.
“M--- MRROOOOOO!” Belle screamed, stamping her front hoof with nostrils flaring. “M-- MOOOOO!” That was the only thing she could reliably say, though it was easy for any to guess the meaning of her protests.
“When you’ve calmed down, I can milk you. I’ll give you some space to process your emotions,” Roger said gently before turning to take his leave.
Belle watched Roger disappear into the farmhouse, her body shaking as tears rimmed her inhuman eyes. Would someone save her? Anyone? She wasn’ really going to be left like this, right? Amidst her sorrow, she clutched onto a fleeting hope. Hesat probably just wanted to scare her. When the transformation finished and Belle lost all hope, the goddess would appear and exclaim how Belle seemed to have learned her lesson before turning her back into a human. That sadistic white cow just wanted to see her squirm and lose all hope first-- right?... Right?
“Belle…” A feminine voice called from behind.
The enraged and begrieved cow turned to see Sophia standing on the other side of the pasture fence, looking toward her with profound sadness.
