I use the Gimp almost exclusively to crop, resize, and touch up photos. I have been meaning to learn a little more about using some of the other features of the software.

So, I recently downloaded some brushes for Photoshop from redheadstock. [link]

After figuring out how to install them, I did some experimenting.

I know that it's a horribly amateuristic picture, but it is my first attempt. I'm asking for critiques so that maybe I can get a few helpful hints.

The background is a picture of a hollow log that I took in the Porcupine Mountains. I darkened it so that it would look like night, but I didn't shift the colors to blue. I might experiment with that tomorrow.

I need to find some tutorials on using the Gimp.
