The warm spring air did little to calm my nerves as I walked along the trail, clutching my notebook. The study guide for my biology final was tucked under my arm, but my focus had been shattered by the deep, thunderous voice behind me.
“Hey, little lady,” the voice growled.
I froze, turning slowly to see him: Derek "Diesel" Hayes, the local football hero and all-around bully. He was massive—easily 6'4" and well over 350 pounds of raw muscle. His reputation as an intimidating force both on and off the field preceded him. And now, his steely gaze was locked on me.
“You’re blocking my view,” he rumbled, though I was nowhere near the edge of the trail. It was an obvious excuse to start trouble.
“I’m not bothering you,” I said, my voice shaking despite my attempt to sound brave.
Diesel grinned, stepping closer. His size was overwhelming, and his presence felt suffocating. “Well, you are now,” he sneered. “What are you studying, huh? Bet it’s nothing important. You don’t look like you could even lift a textbook.”
Tears burned the corners of my eyes, but I refused to give him the satisfaction. “I don’t want any trouble,” I murmured.
“Oh, there won’t be trouble,” he said, cracking his knuckles. “Not unless you make me mad.”
And that’s when I had enough.
I took a deep breath and stood my ground. “You’ve got no idea what you’re messing with, Diesel. Do you even know who I am?”
His laugh boomed through the clearing. “Yeah, I know. You’re nobody.”
I smirked, my confidence growing. “Nobody, huh? Let’s see if you still think that in a minute.”
Before he could react, I raised my hands and began to chant, my voice dripping with mock drama as I wove the spell.
“Oh, mighty Diesel, so big, so strong—too big for this world, it seems. Let’s fix that, shall we? Shrink the brute! Tiny as a twig! Short as a sapling! Light as a leaf!” I paused for effect, narrowing my eyes at him. “We’ll make you perfect—a dainty, delicate thing. Why, you’ll be just right to fit into *my* arms.”
Diesel’s grin faltered as a strange light swirled around him. “What the—?”
“You wanted a fight, didn’t you? Well, here’s one you can’t win,” I taunted, continuing my exaggerated spell. “Let the mighty Diesel fall—inch by inch, pound by pound—until he’s nothing more than a petite, pint-sized princess.”
The transformation began, and Diesel’s massive frame trembled as he dropped to his knees. His body visibly shrank, his clothes growing loose and baggy. His muscles melted away, leaving behind slender, toned limbs. His cries of protest were muffled as his voice softened and pitched higher. The whole process seemed excruciating, but I didn’t dare stop.
“And let’s not forget the finishing touches,” I added with a smirk. “Long, flowing hair, soft skin, and just a touch of glamor. Perfectly pretty and perfectly… tiny.”
With one final flash of light, the transformation was complete. Diesel was gone. In his place was a petite woman who looked barely five feet tall, her delicate frame resembling that of an Olympic gymnast. She stared at her small hands in shock, her now-long hair falling into her wide eyes.
I crossed my arms, feigning indifference as the crowd that had gathered to watch quickly scattered. The dramatic light show had been enough to scare them off.
“W-what… what did you do?” the new woman stammered, her voice trembling.
I stepped closer, my tone softening. “Relax, Dani,” I said, using the name we had agreed upon. “It’s just us now.”
Her big brown eyes met mine, and her fear melted into something warmer. “You really went all out, didn’t you?” she said, a hint of amusement in her voice. “I didn’t think you’d make me this small, though.”
I shrugged, suddenly nervous. “I thought it might help sell the act. Besides…” I hesitated. “I might have made a few… adjustments. I didn’t mean to go overboard, but I might’ve turned you into my dream girlfriend.”
Dani blinked, her cheeks turning pink. “Your dream girlfriend, huh?” She tilted her head, studying me. Then, without a word, she stepped closer and pulled me into a kiss.
When she finally pulled away, she smirked, her confidence somehow intact despite her new size. “What do you think?” she asked, her voice sweet but teasing.
I smiled, my heart racing. “I think I did a pretty good job.”
She laughed, slipping her now-smaller hand into mine. “You sure did. Guess you’re stuck with me now.”
“Guess I am,” I said, squeezing her hand. And as we walked away, the tension and fear of the earlier encounter faded, leaving behind nothing but warmth and possibility.
