AKA A reluctant hero episode 2,

episode 1-

The Reluctant Hero - (TG)

I hadn’t left my dorm in over a week, not since the first fight. The others had been pestering me non-stop. They’d text, call, knock on my door. Katie had even tried slipping notes under the door like I was some hermit waiting for divine inspiration. None of it worked.

Why? Because I refused to go out looking like this.

Every time I looked in the mirror, I saw someone who wasn’t me: a short, slim girl with delicate features, soft curves, and the most infuriatingly tiny boobs you could imagine—just enough to constantly remind me that they were there, getting in the way. Not to mention I’d had to adjust to peeing sitting down. 20 years of muscle memory was working against me.. That was its own nightmare.

There was a knock at the door. Again.

“Chris, come on,” Katie called, her voice muffled through the door. “You can’t stay in there forever.”

“Yes, I can!” I shouted back, flopping onto my bed. My voice still had that higher pitch, soft and feminine, and it grated on me every time I opened my mouth.

I heard a key turn.

“Wait, how do you have my key?!”

“Alex made a copy,” Katie said as she walked in, holding a bag. She didn’t even wait for me to argue. “Alright, we’re fixing this. Get up.”

“No.” I buried my head under a pillow.

Katie sighed and yanked the pillow away. “Chris, you’re coming out. You’re not the first person to wake up one day in a different body.....I assume. You are, however, the first person to lock themselves in a dorm and whine about boobs that barely exist.”

“Excuse me,” I shot back, sitting up and crossing my arms. “They’re there, okay? I can’t just ignore them. They jiggle, Katie. They move when I do. It’s weird.

Katie rolled her eyes, tossing a pair of black leggings and a hoodie onto the bed. “Here. Take off the gross oversized clothes that I'm sure you haven't washed in a week. Put these on.”

“No.”

She grabbed the hoodie and dangled it in front of me. “It’s mine. It’ll cover everything you’re self-conscious about, and the leggings are ridiculously comfortable. Just try it.”

“Comfortable?” I raised an eyebrow, suspicious.

Katie smirked. “Put them on, and you’ll see.”

I grumbled the entire time but finally gave in, yanking on the leggings and hoodie while Katie pointedly turned her back. She was right. The leggings were ridiculously comfortable—soft, stretchy, and they fit perfectly. Too perfectly.

“Alright, done,” I said.

Katie turned and immediately grinned. “You look adorable.”

I froze. “What?”

She grabbed my arm and dragged me to the mirror by the door. My reflection stared back at me: a petite girl in snug leggings that hugged my legs like a second skin and an oversized hoodie that somehow made me look even smaller.

“Nope, I’m not doing this,” I said, already trying to pull the leggings off.

Katie stopped me, hands on my shoulders. “Chris, you look fine. Cute, even. No one’s going to laugh at you.”

“You’re laughing on the inside,” I muttered.

“Only a little.” She smiled. “Come on. The guys promised no more jokes. Just a quick trip off campus for clothes.”

I sighed. “Fine. But this is just step one in my inevitable journey back to being me.”

Katie laughed. “Sure. Keep telling yourself that if it helps.”

We hadn’t made it two blocks before trouble showed up.

A strange shimmer rippled in the air in front of us, and a figure stepped through. It was... well, feminine. If feminine had been cranked up to eleven and turned into a nightmare. The monster had flowing, glittery fabric for hair, sharp stiletto-like claws, and a jagged smile painted on its otherwise porcelain face.

Katie stopped in her tracks. “Of course.”

I groaned. “What now?”

The monster giggled, a high-pitched, grating sound that made my skin crawl. “You two look fabulous! Care to join my fashion show of doom?”

Katie sighed and looked at me. “I know you didn’t want to transform today—”

“Yup, still don’t.”

“—but it looks like you don’t have a choice.”

I groaned. “Why does this keep happening to me?”

Katie grabbed my wrist, pulling me into a dramatic pose. “Chris, we’ve got this. Ready?”

“No!”

Katie smirked and shouted, “Celestial Power, activate!”

A surge of energy washed over us, and I reluctantly followed suit. “Celestial Power, activate!”

The transformation washed over me, forcing me into the stupid twirling pose the suit always started with. Pink energy wrapped around my body, forming the pleated skirt, fitted bodice, and gloves. A tiara-like flourish appeared on my helmet, and the suit forced me to finish with an obnoxiously flirty pose, one hand on my hip and the other making a cutesy heart shape with my fingers.

I didn’t even get to control my words. They came out automatically. “Pink Ranger of Love and Grace, shining bright!”

Katie, already in her Purple Ranger suit, gave me a sympathetic glance. “It’s not that bad.”

“I want to die,” I muttered.

The monster cackled, clapping her clawed hands. “Oh, such style! Such drama! But I’m afraid you’re terribly out of season!”

Katie charged forward, her gauntlets glowing, and started trading blows with the monster. I stood frozen, clutching the hem of my skirt to stop it from swishing.

“Chris!” Katie shouted. “A little help?”

I groaned, reluctantly raising my hands and letting the pink energy build between them. The suit forced me into another heart-shaped pose, sending a barrage of sparkling pink blasts at the monster.

“Stop making me twirl!” I screamed at the suit as I spun again to dodge the monster’s counterattack, my skirt flaring out with every move.

Katie landed beside me, punching the ground with her glowing fist. “Chris, focus! The faster we beat this thing, the faster you can go back to hiding in your room.”

I sighed. “Fine. But only because I’m sick of hearing how ‘adorable’ I look.”

Katie and I were already struggling, but then the monster changed tactics.

“Oh, dear!” it giggled, spinning dramatically as its glittery hair whipped around. “You’re not playing along! How can you fight me if you’re so... out of touch with yourselves?”

Before I could quip back, the monster unleashed a wave of shimmering energy. It washed over me like a cold breeze, and suddenly, my thoughts were... foggy. My chest felt tight, and not just because of the stupid suit.

“What... what is this?” I muttered, clutching my helmeted head.

The monster cackled, pointing a long, clawed finger at me. “Your insecurities, darling. I can feel them! They’ll unravel you faster than a cheap thread!”

Katie leapt in front of me, blocking another wave with her gauntlets. “Chris, stay with me! Don’t let it get in your head!”

Too late. The monster’s magic was already working. Everything about me—this new body, the suit, the voice—felt unbearable. It was like every fear I’d been pushing down came bubbling to the surface all at once.

“Why is this happening to me?” I whispered, tears welling up behind my helmet. “I didn’t ask for any of this!”

Katie shouted something, but I couldn’t hear her over the sound of my own thoughts. I was just... stuck. Trapped in this body that wasn’t mine, fighting battles I never wanted to be a part of, wearing a stupid pink skirt that swished with every humiliating step.

The monster’s voice slithered into my mind like poison. “Poor little thing. You’re not even sure who you are anymore, are you?”

“Chris, move!” Katie yelled, yanking me out of the way just as a glowing projectile slammed into the ground where I’d been standing.

I stumbled, my legs wobbling beneath me as the monster’s laughter filled the air. “Katie... I can’t—”

“We’re pulling back!” Katie grabbed my arm, hitting the communicator on her wrist. “Zephron, bring us back!”

The shimmering light of the teleportation carried us to the safety of Zephron’s command center. I barely had time to register we were out of danger before collapsing to my knees, trembling. Katie knelt beside me, her gauntlets dissolving as the suit faded away. I didn’t even notice as mine disappeared, leaving me back in her hoodie and leggings.

“Chris?” Katie’s voice was soft, almost hesitant. “Talk to me.”

The bravado I’d been clinging to shattered. The anger, the frustration—it all crumbled, leaving nothing but fear. Hot tears streamed down my face as I covered my eyes with my hands, trying to block out everything.

“I... I can’t do this,” I choked out. “Katie, I’m not... I’m not strong enough for this. I’m not even me anymore! I don’t know how to... how to live like this!”

She sat beside me, wrapping her arms around my shoulders. “Chris, it’s okay. You’re allowed to feel this way. But you’re not alone. You’ve got me, and you’ve got the others. We’re a team, remember?”

I sniffled, my voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t ask for any of this... The stupid suit, the... the skirt, the... the boobs! I don’t even want them, but they’re just there! And don’t even get me started on leggings!”

Katie pulled back slightly, raising an eyebrow. “Leggings? What about them?”

“They’re comfortable, okay?!” I snapped, but my voice cracked, making me sound more pitiful than angry. “They’re soft and stretchy and they make my legs feel amazing, but every time I look in the mirror, I see some... some adorable girl, and I hate it!”

Before Katie could respond, the others arrived, the teleportation light fading as they stepped into the command center. Alex, Greg, and Justin froze when they saw me, crumpled on the floor with Katie beside me.

Alex, for once, didn’t have a joke ready. “Chris...”

I quickly wiped my eyes, trying to pull myself together. “Go ahead. Make your stupid jokes. Call me Chrissy or Christina or whatever. I don’t care anymore.”

Justin knelt down beside me, his voice unusually serious. “We’re not gonna do that, man. We didn’t... We didn’t realize how hard this has been for you.”

Greg scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “Yeah, I guess we kinda... forgot you’re actually going through something. We were just trying to... I dunno, make it lighter.”

Katie shot them all a pointed look. “He’s been hiding in his dorm for a week. Did you really think the jokes were helping?”

Alex sighed, sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of me. “Chris, we’re sorry. For real. We’ll stop with the jokes, okay? No more skirt comments, no more ‘Chrissy’... none of it.”

I looked at each of them, still sniffling. “You mean it?”

Justin nodded. “Yeah. We’re a team. We’ve got your back, no matter what.”

Katie gave my shoulder a squeeze. “See? Told you they’d come around.”

I exhaled shakily, trying to smile. “Thanks.”

Alex grinned. “Well, that’s progress.”

Katie helped me stand, and I took a deep breath. “Alright. Let’s go finish this. Zephron, ready the teleport.”

With that, we teleported back to face the monster, ready to finish the fight—leggings, skirt, twirls, and all.

The transformation began the moment the words left our lips: “Celestial Power, activate!”

A surge of light exploded around us, each of us enveloped in a swirl of energy matching our respective colors. My pink energy wrapped around me like a whirlwind, lifting me off the ground as sparkling heart-shaped symbols shimmered in the air. My body spun involuntarily as the suit began to form: gloves snapped into place with a bright flash, followed by the boots and the pleated skirt, which flared out dramatically before settling. The heart emblem appeared on my chest in a burst of pink light, glowing brightly before fading into the suit’s design. The helmet slid into place last, completing the transformation with a flourish of heart-shaped sparkles that dissipated as I landed in a dainty pose, my hands on my hips.

I cringed as my body automatically twirled one last time, ending with me striking a flirty pose, one hand raised as if blowing a kiss. “Pink Ranger of Love and Grace, shining bright!”

The others followed, their voices ringing out in unison:

Together, we all shouted, “Celestial Sentai, defenders of the cosmos!”

And then, inexplicably, an enormous explosion of light and fire erupted behind us, complete with colorful sparks. I jumped, looking over my shoulder. “Where the hell did that come from?! Who set that off?!”

Alex just grinned beneath his helmet. “It’s for effect, Chris. Adds to the drama.”

“It’s Chris!” I hissed, then I realized …..he'd called me Chris, but the monster interrupted before I could apologize.

“Well, well,” it sneered, tossing its glittering, claw-like hair aside. “Back for more, little pink twirler? Ready to embarrass yourself again?”

I clenched my fists, heart pounding. The suit took over again, forcing me to step forward dramatically, pointing at the monster. The words that came out of my mouth weren’t mine—they were pure, cliché hero nonsense. “You’ll never defeat the power of love and teamwork!”

I froze, mortified. “Oh god. Did I actually just say that?”

Katie patted my shoulder. “Lean into it, Chris. It’s part of the gig.”

The monster cackled, sending a flurry of razor-sharp glitter shards our way. “Then come and get me, Pink Ranger!”

This time, I didn’t fight the suit. I let it guide me, spinning gracefully out of the way of the attack. Instead of focusing on how ridiculous I looked, I focused on how effective the moves were. Every twirl and pose had a purpose: dodging, deflecting, or even taunting the monster. The skirt swished with every spin, and for once, I didn’t care.

“You’re going down, Sparkles!” I shouted, aiming my hands forward. Pink energy gathered between them, glowing brightly before blasting toward the monster in a heart-shaped burst. It staggered, hissing angrily as Katie leapt in, landing a punch with her glowing gauntlet.

The others joined the fray, each using their weapons to drive the monster back. Alex swung his hammer, creating shockwaves that shattered the ground. Greg’s sword sliced through the monster’s glittering hair, while Justin’s daggers glowed with energy, slashing at its defenses.

“Time to end this!” Alex shouted. “Let’s combine our weapons!”

The sequence was as dramatic as it was unnecessary, but I couldn’t deny how cool it felt. Each of us raised our weapons, which transformed into glowing energy before fusing into a massive celestial cannon. The design was ornate, with star patterns and glowing runes that pulsed with power.

“Celestial Beam Cannon!” we shouted in unison, aiming the weapon at the monster.

I held my position, standing on the side as the cannon charged. The monster shrieked, “You think this will stop me?!”

I pointed dramatically. “Your reign of glittery terror ends now!”

The cannon fired, a massive beam of multicolored energy that slammed into the monster. The explosion that followed was spectacular, lighting up the battlefield with a dazzling array of colors. The monster let out one final scream before disintegrating into a cloud of sparkling dust.

We stood together, posing as the energy faded. Without thinking, I twirled again—this time on my own—and landed in a graceful stance.

Alex grinned beneath his helmet. “Victory!”

I sighed. “Celestial Sentai, defenders of the cosmos!” The words came out like second nature, and I could almost hear Zephron’s approval.

Katie chuckled beside me. “You’re getting the hang of it.”

“Don’t get used to it,” I muttered. But deep down, I couldn’t help but feel a little... proud. Maybe the Pink Ranger wasn’t so bad after all.

Well, except for the skirt. And the twirls. And the catchphrases.

And, fine, maybe I liked the leggings. But that was it.

The battle was over. The monster was destroyed, and the energy of the Celestial Beam Cannon had faded. I stood with the others, exhausted but strangely exhilarated, feeling like I’d really contributed this time. Maybe it was the adrenaline, maybe it was the victory, or maybe it was Katie’s constant encouragement, but for the first time since this whole mess started, I felt... okay.

That didn’t last long.

A few hours later, we were at the mall food court.

Katie had dragged me on a whirlwind shopping trip. At first, I protested every choice she made, but eventually, I stopped fighting it. I even let her pick out a few things I secretly liked. Now, here I was, stepping out of the bathroom in a new outfit that felt... surprisingly me.

I wore a pair of dark gray leggings paired with ankle boots, a fitted jacket over a loose tank top, and a scarf Katie insisted “tied it all together.” The combination was stylish but understated, perfect for easing me into this new reality.

Katie practically leapt out of her chair when she saw me. “There she is!”

I crossed my arms, trying to look annoyed but failing. “Do you have to make it such a big deal?”

“Yes,” Katie said, smirking. “Now get over here.”

I shuffled over, feeling the leggings hug my legs with every step. I had to admit—they were ridiculously comfortable. Way better than jeans. And the outfit as a whole made me look... good. Not “cute” or “adorable” like I’d feared, but actually good.

The guys turned to look as I approached, their expressions somewhere between surprise and approval.

Alex gave an exaggerated whistle. “Whoa, look who finally left the dorm! You clean up nice, Chris.”

I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help smiling. “Thanks, I guess. Also, I think I'd like to try out being Krista, just fits me better than Chrissy or Christina”

Greg grinned. “No more skirts?”

“Absolutely not,” I said firmly, dropping into the chair beside Katie.

“Fair enough,” Justin said, chuckling. “The leggings are definitely more your speed. Way more chill.”

Katie leaned back, looking smug. “I told you they’d look great.”

“Yeah, yeah, you win,” I muttered, tugging at the scarf self-consciously. “But seriously, thanks for, uh... all of this. You didn’t have to—”

“Of course I did,” Katie interrupted, waving a hand. “You’re one of us. And besides, you’re, like, my new favorite shopping buddy now.”

“Let’s not get carried away,” I said quickly, earning a laugh from the group.

Katie tapped her drink cup with a spoon, as if making an official announcement. “Alright, everyone, listen up! I present to you the new and improved Krista. Not Chris, not Chrissy, definitely not Christina. Krista.”

The guys clapped, Justin even giving me a quick, awkward side-hug. “Welcome to the team... Krista.”

“Yeah,” Alex added. “Sorry for being a jerk about everything earlier. You’ve, uh... had a lot to deal with.”

I shrugged, trying to brush it off. “It’s fine. You’re all idiots, but you’re my idiots, I guess.”

Greg grinned. “Damn right we are.”

Katie grabbed my hand, looking genuinely proud. “You’re killing it, Krista. I mean, look at you! You’re stylish, you’re rocking the leggings, and—”

“Alright, don’t overdo it,” I said, laughing. “I still have a long way to go.”

“You’re doing great,” Katie said softly. “You’ve got this.”

I nodded, feeling a warmth I hadn’t felt in days. “Thanks, Katie. Really.”

Alex leaned back, smirking. “Alright, so now that you’re fully embracing the leggings life, what’s next? Dresses? Heels?”

“Don’t push it,” I warned, narrowing my eyes at him.

Greg chuckled. “Fine, fine. But you gotta admit, this new look suits you.”

“Yeah,” I said, glancing at my reflection in the food court window. For the first time, I didn’t hate what I saw. “I guess it does.”

There was a brief moment of silence as we all sat back, enjoying the rare calm after everything that had happened.

And then Katie, ever the queen of timing, leaned over with a wicked grin. “You’re doing amazing, Krista. You’ve got this whole new identity thing on lock. Just wait until you get your period.”

The record-scratch moment hit like a freight train. My jaw dropped, and the guys froze mid-sip, their faces priceless.

“WHAT?!” I shouted, my voice hitting that high pitch I couldn’t quite control.

Katie’s laughter rang out across the food court as the screen faded to black, the episode ending on my horrified expression.

Next time on Celestial Sentai...

Alex (Red Ranger): "Okay, team, explain to me why we’re fighting a sentient salad bar this time. Is this some kind of cosmic joke?"

Krista (Pink Ranger): "No way! I am not using that—Katie, stop laughing! This isn’t funny!"

Katie (Purple Ranger): "Relax, Krista. You’re handling all this better than you think... well, aside from the whole ‘running from everything girly’ thing."

Greg (Blue Ranger): "Guys, we’re surrounded. Please tell me someone brought the giant laser thing this time."

Justin (Yellow Ranger): "Do we always have to fight the bad guys right after I buy snacks? Seriously, it’s like they’re targeting me!"

thanks so much for reading, the preview may or may not be accurate, but I will begin working on episode 3
